This study aims to examine the effect of organizational learning capability on product innovation performance in the manufacturing sector using empirical data. A survey was conducted with 120 firms that were on the list of Top 1000 Firms of Turkey and registered with the Istanbul Chamber of Industry, to examine the relationship between the dimensions of organizational learning capability and the dimensions of product innovation performance. The findings of the study indicate a positive relationship between organizational learning capability and product innovation performance.

The current research empirically investigated whether total quality management (TQM) as a multidimensional construct (organic and mechanistic) has a better explanatory power toward innovation performance dimensions with the mediating effect of business innovation capability (BIC) and moderating effect of business innovation culture. After an in-depth examination of the literature, a holistic TQM–BIC–innovation performance framework is being developed based on theoretical knowledge as well as empirical justification. This would help scholars and practitioners to comprehend ways through which quality and innovation are integrated. To this end, structural equation modeling–partial least squares (SEM-PLS) is used for analyzing the data. It has been found that both soft and hard TQM trigger innovation performance and firm BIC mediates this relationship. Lastly, the role of business innovation culture in enhancing firm’s radical innovation performance was empirically established. Thus, developing BIC and business innovation culture in a TQM-based firm could trigger innovating performance.

This study investigates the positive effects of an appropriability regime and perceived similarity to green co-innovation performance when considering green open innovation activities as the mediator. It proposes a novel construct, i.e., green open innovation activities, and employs structural equation modeling to test its hypotheses. 190 valid questionnaires were collected from executives in Taiwanese manufacturing companies. Manufacturing activities are regarded as a major source of pollution. Consequently, given the broad concern for the environment among governments and consumers, adopting green practices has become critical for manufacturing companies. All the proposed hypotheses were supported by the analysis results. An appropriability regime is positively associated with green open innovation activities and green co-innovation performance. Perceived similarity is positively associated with green open innovation activities and green co-innovation performance. Moreover, green open innovation activities are positively associated with green co-innovation performance. A major finding is that if a company introduces one, the longer the duration of a green project is, the stronger the green open innovation activities and green co-innovation performance are. This study aimed to determine the simultaneous effects of both factors, i.e., appropriability regime, and perceived similarity on green open innovation activities and green co-innovation performance. The contribution of this study highlights the simultaneous importance of appropriability regimes and perceived similarity to determine a company’s green practices. While companies have tended to increase their green co-innovation performance, they need to improve their appropriability regime, perceived similarity, and green open innovation activities.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of applying total quality management (TQM) on enhancing knowledge management processes. It also examine the relationship between knowledge management and innovation performance in the Malaysian manufacturing sector. Design/methodology/approach This study used a survey method to test the formulated hypotheses. Therefore, the adopted questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect the needed data. The population of the study consisted of 800 big and medium manufacturing companies listed in Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (2012). Findings The results of this paper support a positive and significant impact of TQM practice on knowledge management processes. Furthermore, the relationship between knowledge management and innovation performance has been a proved. However, further analysis on dimension level indicates that knowledge acquisition failed to show significant relationship with innovation performance. Originality/value This study addresses one of the recent issues within the Malaysian context of becoming a developed nation, which is innovation performance, specifically for manufacturing companies. To do so, the overlapping relationships among TQM practices, knowledge management, and innovation performance have been tested.

Growing use of fiberglass admixture in construction along with automotive industries has escalated demand of fiberglass among the firms and fueling them with the innovational strategy in order to be competitive. Fiberglass businesses being one of the high-tech sectors have to consider many domains. Although, due to the inflexibility of employees, the absence of innovative atmosphere and monopolistic composition, employees are unwilling to be innovative in organizations. The current study argued that strategic management of new HRM practices through enhancing more skillful, talented, committed, motivated can further innovation and innovational employees that helps in higher productivity of the organization. However, to demonstrate this connection is insufficient in terms of empirical evidence. Consequently, the main objective of this investigation to examine role of strategic management of New HRM practices on innovation performance followed by the mediation of organizational innovation. Data has collected from Bahrain’s manufacturing sector of fiberglass that came up with significant positive association between the endogenous and exogenous variables.

Innovation research has got a very significant value in modern research. Innovation has significantly altered the human life through research-and-development and production of technology, including the outcomes in the economy. Understanding the determinants of innovation is important because innovations establish companies' competitive advantages (Porter, 1992). In contemporary galvanized world, supremacy of new innovation strategies has taken over older strategies. There have been research on the relationship of these business strategies with innovation performance. Blue Ocean Strategy value innovates for the organization and customer. There has been a need to determine the model of BOS which supports innovation performance. But there was a great need of the empirical research on the impacts these strategies make on innovation performance in Malaysian manufacturing industries. As Malaysia is on slide on world innovation index from 31st to 37th in last five years, an alarm for academics, researchers, industry and government. This endeavor meets that objective. A research framework is tested and developed which support innovation performance. This is an empirical study so the hypothesis are formulated. It is a quantitative research study so data was collected from all over the Malaysian manufacturing organizations. PLS is used to predict the model. Results reveal that three of the five BOS constructs enhance innovation performance.

While innovation studies generated a great number of insights regarding the conditions under which innovation performance occurs, there are two main points of criticisms. First, many studies focus on a narrow conception of innovation (namely product innovation). Second, many studies are based on data from the manufacturing sector. The present analysis aims to overcome these criticisms by analyzing a broad indicator of innovation across multiple sectors. Hypotheses are formulated guided by organizational learning theories of innovation. These hypotheses are tested using data from the third European Company Survey.

Purpose This study aims to examine open innovation that consists a wide range of external knowledge search activities, such external search breadth and depth, external R&D, cooperation and acquisition activities, as a response to different innovation barriers faced by Indonesian firms. Design/methodology/approach Data are derived from Indonesia innovation survey. Exploratory factor analysis is used to identify and combine innovation barriers variables. Ordered logistic estimation is used to measure the impact of innovation barriers on firm openness decision. Logistic regression is used to measure the impact of innovation barriers on firm openness indicators such as external R&D, cooperation and acquisition as the variables are binary. Finally, Tobit regression is used to measure the impact of firm openness decision on innovation performance. Findings The main findings indicate that different barriers to innovation lead to different firms’ openness decisions, and different decisions on openness have differentiated influence on innovation performance. Originality/value This study contributes to the innovation barrier literature by empirically testing whether experiencing barriers to innovation is associated with a broader external knowledge search activity. Previous studies tend to link innovation barriers with a narrow activity as indicated by external knowledge searching widely and deeply.
