Peru is recognized as a pluricultural and multilingual country, with more than 50 original ethnic groups (Andean-Amazonian), to which we would add Afro-Peruvians and international migrants. However, the country vision has been homogenous, around the European target and the Spanish cultural heritage, hiding cultural diversity. The relations between cultures have been asymmetric, expressed in discrimination, marginalization, exclusion, on the basis dominant-dominated opposition; majority-minority. Teachers have been trained in this vision of the country and have been oriented to transmit information from the Western world and European knowledge, without assessing ancestral knowledge of cultural groups existing in the country. Currently, we seek to change that paradigm and has incorporated the proposal of the intercultural approach for relations between cultures and also for education. The classrooms are now multicultural. The new national educational policy marks an unavoidable challenge: to create a new curricular model to train intercultural teachers, reinforcing in them didactics and competences, capable of valuing and recovering knowledge of cultural diversity, to fulfill the role of educating in interculturality and forming citizens intercultural in a double dimension: to respond to the country and to act in the context of globalization.

The paper analyses the evolution of Yu. Samarin’s ideas from rationalism to “holistic knowledge”. Special attention is paid to the philosopher’s conceptualization of the key role of religion for a nation. The author also examines the scholar’s position concerning the promotion of patriotism as an important impetus for social development. Emphasis is made on analyzing the interaction of universal and national aspects in the educational process, as well as on the value of national identity in the field of humanities. The article also presents Yu. Samarin’s critical evaluation of the government educational policy and his suggestions on increasing its effectiveness. The author notes the relevance of Yu. Samarin’s views for the contemporary philosophical and educational context.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discuss the recent National Appropriate Adult Network (NAAN) report on the role of the appropriate adult. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based on the NAAN report and a review of relevant policy and research literature. Findings There to Help 2 highlights that there are still significant gaps in the provision of appropriate adult schemes across England and Wales. These gaps potentially place vulnerable adults at increased risk. Originality/value This paper is a review of recent research.

Taking an anthropological approach, this article interprets Pagnol's critically acknowledged classic as a reinvention of a carnivalesque ritual practised in France from the late middle ages through the late 1930s, when ethnographers observed its last vestiges. By linking La Femme du boulanger (The baker's wife, 1938) to contemporaneous debates over gender, national decadence, and the definition of French cultural identity, I argue that the film recycles the charivari's long-standing function as a tool of popular protest against social and political practices regarded as detrimental to the welfare of the nation. In the context of the Popular Front, Pagnol's charivari ridiculed divisive partisan politics pitting Left against Right, symbolically purged class conflict from the social body, and created a new form of folklore that served as a focal point for the communitarian ritual of movie-going among the urban working and middle classes. In so doing, the film promoted the ongoing shift in public support away from the Popular Front in favour of a conservative ‘National Union’ government under Prime Minister Edouard Daladier, who in 1938–9 assumed the role of France's newest political patriarch.

Abstract The 2011 Census for England and Wales made extensive use of administrative data to quality assure the estimates. This included record linkage between census and administrative data. This article describes the role of record linkage in the quality-assurance process. It outlines the operational challenges that we faced and how we resolved them. Record linkage was confined to a sample within 58 carefully selected local authorities. We found characteristic patterns of under- and overcoverage in the National Health Service Patient Register, which we illustrate here with examples. Our findings may be useful in countries that, like England and Wales, do not have a comprehensive population register to draw on and that need to understand issues of coverage in their routinely collected administrative data and the use of these data to estimate populations.

We compared the incidence of significant Dupuytren’s disease in men across occupational social classes in England and Wales, using data from the National Morbidity Survey. We found that manual occupational social class was not associated with an increased incidence of Dupuytren’s disease. In fact, the incidence rates of Dupuytren’s disease in the elderly were higher in non-manual than in manual social classes.

Mas, ao mesmo tempo em que avançamos nos direitos conquistados, também foi naturalizado que o Estado não seria mais o principal executor.Palavras-chave: parceria público-privada em educação; política educacional; democratização da educação.The article deals with the redefinitions of the role of the state, which reorganize the boundaries between public and private that materialize in many different forms in basic public education, and their implications for the process of democratization of education. In the Brazilian case, we have struggled so hard since the so-called ‘opening period’ of political democratization with social rights materialized in public policies. However, while we have advanced in the conquered rights, at the same time the idea of the State as the main provider no longer prevails.Keywords: public-private partnership in education; educational policy; democratization of education

The article is dedicated to the creative art of modern Kharkov artist, Candidate of Sciences in Art Criticism, member of the National Union of artists of Ukraine, associate Professor of the Painting Department of Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts Lyudmila Gorbatenko. Graphic arts as a segment of her creative work is considered. The role of sketching as one of the main factors of formation of an individual manner is emphasized. Cycles of watercolor sketches and travel sketches are analyzed. All analyzed works were created by the pencil in the period from 2003.
