The paper describes curriculum extension projects in science in a senior high school. Individual extension projects are developed from the base of the school curriculum but extend into broader, more unusual areas according to the individual's particular interest. However, concentrating on extension into breadth also necessitates working in depth, and all work progresses on the basis of hypothesis testing and the development of the necessary skills needed to tackle the task. Pupils discuss their intended goals, draw up a plan of action and contract to complete the task. The overall aim of the teacher is to be a guide and to encourage the pupil to develop an autonomous and individual learning programme and style of working.

In the article, taking into account the challenges of the global information revolution, modern socio-educational realities, the authors substantiate the need for a communicative approach in teaching physics as one of the methodological approaches of a new scientific direction – psycho didactics of physics. The purpose of the article is defined as the coverage of some results of experimental teaching of physics to high school students of a secondary school based on a communicative approach with elements of bilingualism, its essence is characterized. Using a specific example, the author’s methodology for implementing this approach was first demonstrated, the need for its integration with other psycho-didactic approaches with the aim of comprehensive development of the student’s personality in the process of teaching physics is emphasized. Some experimental data are presented that make it possible, as a first approximation, to optimistically evaluate the results of testing the methodology of the communicative approach with elements of bilingualism in physics education, the prospect of further studies to obtain data on a more voluminous statistical sample is outlined , as well as to identify the possibility of using the proposed methodology in studying other disciplines in natural sciences in both secondary and high school.

School Based Curriculum or ―Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan” (KTSP) 2008 requires teaching and learning activities that should be active, innovative, creative, enjoyable, cheerful and qualified. In order to share or help teachers, this Research and Development (R&D) research was conducted that may inspire them in developing teaching and learning materials for the expected class. The scope of this study is developing written news item text materials for the ten graders of senior high school so that the students are able to create a simple short news item texts which are classified into four kinds: straight, interpretative, investigative and color news stories. The method used was adapted and adjusted from Hyland‘s Model of material development. The process started from doing a survey, followed by developing materials, having experts and teachers validation, doing first revision, trying out, writing second revision, and producing final result. The try out resulted student average score 76,14 that means the students achieved 79,55 % above minimum national learning mastery, 75. This study focuses on the written news item texts from the 3 sources, namely newspapers, magazine and internet. Since the three sources are available in one source, the internet, the final product is entitled ―3 News in 1‖ accompanied by Interactive Self-study VCD‘. Keywords: R&D; News item texts;  teaching & Learning materials.

Kata-kata kunci :          Bahasa Mandarin, bahan ajar, fonetik, sekolah menengah atas AbstractThe main objective of this study is to evaluate the arrangement of phonetic teaching in Mandarin teaching material at senior high school level. The study involved eight packages of Mandarin teaching materials in senior high school. Based on the study of this 8 packages teaching materials, apparently the arrangement of phonetic teaching in most of the materials still utilizes a common format, and does not take into consideration the difficulties of students whose native language is Indonesian. In addition, the majority of the teaching materials allocates only a few units of phonetic lessons, and is oversimplified. As regards, I suggested a better format on the arrangement of phonetic teaching in Mandarin teaching material at senior high school level, referring to some phonetic research that has been done by some Mandarin education observers, both in Indonesia and China. Hopefully learners, especially beginner students in senior high school may learn Mandarin much easier. Keywords: Mandarin, teaching material, phonetic, senior high school

This research aims to develop physics communication skill instruments based on local wisdom for Senior High School Students. The development step was adopted special research for non-test developed by Mardapi (2012). There are ten steps for developing an instrument, such as 1) arrange the specification of the instrument, 2) write the instrument, 3) determine the scale, 4) determine scoring system, 5) recheck the instrument, 6) do the pre-test 7) analyze the instrument, 8) make the final instrument,  9) do the measurement, and 10) analyze the result of the measurement. The communication skills are measured by verbal aspects use the observation sheet through the presentation. Meanwhile, the nonverbal aspect uses the portfolio. This instrument is validated by three experts in evaluation, physics, education, and three teachers of a senior high student. Communication skills consist of five indicators. This study is participated by 33 students of SMA IT Ihsanul Fikri. The content validity was analyzed with the V Aiken formula show that the overall coefficient of each item was valid with the validity coefficient ≥ 0.78. The instrument also reliable with coefficient G Relative ≥ 0.7.
