The challenges in the 21st century have made learning a complex process. In this age, new and conceptual learning strategies are being used to compete with the challenges. The concept map learning strategy has shown positive influences on students’ academic achievements and quality of education. This learning strategy has also showed a significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills. A research study has been conducted to assess the students’ academic achievements and memorisation power by concept map learning strategy and traditional learning approach. The students of a primary school studying in fifth grade in general course for section A (concept map learning strategy) and section B (Traditional lecture learning strategy) were assessed. The descriptive statistics and t-test analysis were also carried out on the results obtained from the students by concept map and traditional learning strategies. Statistical analysis showed that concept map learning strategy improved the students’ academic achievements and memorisation power significantly.   Keywords: Critical thinking skills, learning skills, microbiology, strategies, primary school.

Some degree of conceptualization would clearly occur during past traditional learning even if not formally realized as concept maps, since conceptual connectivity and progression are intuitively grasped. Can this be measured? The methodology for developing metrics for the ‘solidness’ of past learning has major prospects in the development of educational strategies, as retained learning alone can be true learning; it sheds light on ‘the disconnects’ that throw learning off-gear, when evaluated at a mass level. Here, we outline such a methodology that tantamounts to sleuthing for limits to true learning both in an individual and a group that the practitioners of concept maps may find useful, by reexamining for retention of past learning. Quantitation in retention together with concept maps complete the loop of learning, offering invaluable feedback where it is needed most, i.e., blind spots in learning.

The aim of this article is to propose a method for development of concept map in web-based environment for identifying concepts a student is deficient in after learning using traditional methods. Direct Hashing and Pruning algorithm was used to construct concept map. Redundancies within the concept map were removed to generate a learning sequence. Prototype learning system was developed based on this learning sequence using Android Emulator. For analysis purpose, 42 learners were given to learn the course Java Programming taught at graduation level. A posttest was conducted after learning for evaluation purpose. Multiple regression analysis method was applied on these results to develop regression equations for the proposed method of learning. Statistical Package for Social Sciences software was used for statistical analysis purposes. It was found that posttest results are directly proportional to the quality of traditional learning. Better quality students require less time in constructing prototype system. Further concept mapping was found to have a positive impact on proposed method of learning. When the number of concepts is large, a learning sequence among these can be generated using the proposed method. This learning sequence can be used to identify the concept a student needs additional learning.

Abstract This qualitative study examined student perceptions regarding a hybrid classroom format in which part of their learning took place in a traditional classroom and part of their learning occurred in an online platform. Pre-course and post-course anonymous essays suggest that students may be open to learning in this context; however, they have specific concerns as well. Students raised issues regarding faculty communication patterns, learning styles, and the value of clear connections between online and traditional learning experiences. Student concerns and feedback need to be addressed through the course design and by the instructor in order for them to have a positive learning experience in a hybrid format course.

Concept Mapping ist eine Lernstrategie, die insbesondere das bedeutungsvolle Lernen unterstützt. Ziel dieser Studie war es, den Nutzen von kognitiven und/oder metakognitiven Prompts auf den Lernerfolg beim Lernen durch Concept Mapping zu untersuchen. Die teilnehmenden Schülerinnen und Schüler (N = 112, Durchschnittsalter: 17.20 Jahre) erzielten einen signifikant besseren Lernerfolg, wenn sie durch Prompts beim Anfertigen einer Concept Map unterstützt wurden. Gemischte Prompts waren dabei im Vergleich zu nur kognitiven bzw. nur metakognitiven Prompts nicht effektiver, offensichtlich regte bereits die Verfügbarkeit von Prompts die Lernenden zu systematischerem Lernverhalten an. Als Fazit dieser Studie lässt sich festhalten, dass Prompts als Hilfestellung bei der Anwendung einer neuen Lerntechnik sehr wohl positive Effekte haben. Eine Follow-Up-Messung ohne Prompts zeigte jedoch, dass die einmalige Unterstützung durch Prompts nicht ausreichte, um die Lerntechnik weiterhin selbstständig erfolgreich anzuwenden.

Abstract This study follows muscle activity in three different learning sessions (computer, language laboratory, and normal classroom) while students were studying foreign languages. Myoelectric activity was measured in 21 high school students (10 girls, 11 boys, age range 17-20 years) by surface electromyography (sEMG) from the upper trapezius and frontalis muscles during three 45-min sessions. Root mean square (RMS) average from both investigated muscles was calculated. The EMG activity was highest in both muscle groups in the computer-aided session and lowest in the language laboratory. The girls had higher EMG activity in both investigated muscle groups in all three learning situations. The measured blood pressure was highest at the beginning of the sessions, decreased within 10 min, but increased again toward the end of the sessions. Our results indicate that the use of a computer as a teaching-aid evokes more constant muscle activity than the traditional learning situations. Since muscle tension can have adverse health consequences, more research is needed to determine optimal classroom conditions, especially when technical aids are used in teaching.

This research is motivated by the learning result of Social Sciences of Grade VI SD Negeri 022 Jaya Mukti KotaDumai which is still very low. This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of Social Sciences students.From the data analysis there is an increase of both teacher activity, student activity, and student learning result,that is teacher activity at meeting 1 cycle I percentage is 65% (enough) and at meeting 2 increase to 80%(good). In the second cycle of meeting 3 it increases again to 90% (very good) and at meeting 4 increases to95% (very good). Judging from the student activity also increased from the 1st meeting of cycle I was 60%(enough) and at meeting 2 increased to 70% (good). In the second cycle of meeting 3 it increased to 85% (verygood) and at the 4th meeting to 95% (very good). Judging from student learning outcomes, the average basicscore 63 increased to 75 in the first cycle of increase 12 points later in cycle II increased to 95 in cycle II largeincrease of 20 points. From the data analysis there is an increase both from teacher activity, student activity,and student learning outcomes. It can be concluded that the Improved Learning Model concept map can improvethe learning outcomes of IPS students of class VI SD Negeri 022 Jaya Mukti Kota Dumai.

The results of analytical studies of the subject and subjectivity in relation to law enforcement officers based on the academicians Eddy V. Sayko and Anatoly A. Derkach’s fundamental research are presented in the article. Service in the internal Affairs bodies is a deterministic system. It is characterized by huge information flows, extreme neuropsychic and emotional loads, and complex interpersonal relationships. In this regard, increased requirements are imposed on employees of all levels of the law enforcement system. After studying the long-term dynamics of the level of readiness of cadets of educational organizations of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia in the framework of self-development, it can be concluded that specialized competencies formed in the classroom according to the traditional system are not transformedinto skills of the highest order. Based on the research, the obvious problem of further improving the methodology of teaching competent actions in the course of performing operational and service tasks in various conditions is revealed. It is reasonable that the traditional learning process involves the development of a specific algorithm of actions in standard situations of operational and service activities, and when introducing various tasks of modeling typical situations, students often cannot complete the task in changing conditions (beyond the standard).
