Abstract Minimum operating voltages (Vmin) of every cell on a 32kb fully-depleted (FD) SOI static random access memory (SRAM) macro are successfully measured. The competing Vmin distribution models, which include the gamma and log-normal distribution, are approximated using the generalized gamma distribution (GENG). It is found that Vmin of the cells follow the gamma distribution. This finding gives a simple method to estimate worst Vmin of an SRAM macro by measuring few samples and make linear extrapolation from the gamma distribution.

Currently, induction motors are widely used in industry because have a high potential for the efficiency improvement. Therefore, a topic of interest to the industry is to reduce the energy consumption of induction motors, as they represent almost half of the total electrical energy consumption in the world. The energy consumption of electric motors can be reduced by using motors that are more efficient and by using power converters to feed the motors, thereby enabling accurate control according to the load. The function of the power converter is to modify the intrinsic characteristics of the induction motor (speed and torque). There are different topologies of the power converter commonly called inverter for induction motors. An inverter requires a modulation strategy for its operation, there are several modulation strategies that are used in the induction converter-motor assembly. This paper presents the comparative analysis of the influence of the phase disposition modulation (PD-PWM) strategy with different modulation indices, on parameters related to the output signal of a seven-level cascaded multilevel inverter as well as on the nominal working conditions of a three-phase induction motor.

In industrial applications, approximately, 60% of world's consumption of electrical energy passes through the windings of squirrel-cage induction motors. Hence it is necessary to select an efficient drive circuit for induction motor to save energy. The MC are preferred to replace VSC in industrial applications. To control the performance of the MC, fuzzy logic technique is proposed and simulated using Matlab/Simulink. In this chapter, the basic concepts of MCs are discussed. The implementation of fuzzy logic technique to improve the performance of MC in driving induction motor is discussed in detail. The design of fuzzy controllers and the closed loop control of induction motor is shown. It seen that the introduction of fuzzy controllers in the closed loop helped to reduce the overshoot at starting and maintain the reference speed when running with load torque. Also the input and output voltage of the MC is maintained sinusoidal.

The integration in the isolated areas and rural sectors is a better solution for producing the electrical energy needed for applications such as pumping systems. The rural water demand for crop irrigation and domestic water supplies is increasing. For this, one of the most conceived solutions is the photovoltaic water pumping technology which has the advantage of being sustainable and respectful of the environment to supply water to rural areas. This chapter describes a robust control of a standalone photovoltaic water pumping system using induction motor drive coupled with a centrifugal hydraulic pump. The induction motor is controlled by algorithm called an adaptive nonlinear control uses a combination of the adaptive observer for rotor flux and nonlinear control technique. The variables to be controlled are the rotor speed and the rotor flux norm required to implement the nonlinear control algorithm is estimated by adaptive flux observer. Simulations are carried out in order to show the effectiveness of the drive and the robustness to parameters variations.
