Abstract. A steel structure is naturally lighter than a comparable concrete construction because of the higher strength and firmness of steel. Nowadays, the growth of steel structures in India is enormous. There are so many advantages in adopting the steel as structural members. Almost all high-rise buildings, warehouses & go-downs are steel structures and even some of the commercial buildings are made of steel. Tension members are the elements that are subjected to direct axial load which tends in the elongation of the structural members. Even today bolted connections play a major role in the connection of hot rolled structural steel members. In this experimental study the behavior of tension members (TM) such as plates, angles & channels have been studied under axial tensile force. There is strong relation between pitch and gauge (with in the specified limit as per IS 800:2007) in determining the rupture failure plane. In this study we intensively tested the behaviour of TM for different fasteners pattern by changing the pitch, gauge, end & edge distance and by adopting the different patterns or arrangements of bolted connection in it.

A series of vertical fire suppression experiments on rigid polyurethane (RPU) and flexible polyurethane (FPU) with/without water spray were conducted in a standard chamber. A new video processing method was developed to determine the pyrolysis front position of wind-aided flame. Averaged flame height, carbon monoxide/hydrogen cyanide concentration, view factors, and extinguishing time were determined with operating pressure varying from 0.15 MPa to 0.4 MPa. The experimental study showed that water spray would suppress RPU/FPU fire mainly by fuel surface cooling. Furthermore, the perfect water spray pressure for RPU/FPU fire suppression was 0.3 MPa and the corresponding water application rate was 0.7511 mg/(cm2·s).

Zone of yield strength is a part of stress-strain diagram on steel. In this zone is located an upper and lower yield strength points. These points are important for calculation and design of steel structures elements. When a structural element is corroded, its mechanical properties are changed i.e. changes the geometric characteristics, superficial defects appear and leads to structural changes of material. The facts unambiguously determine that in order to decide whether or not the corrosion element can be reuse, it is necessary to study the material and to determine the new values at the yield strength points. In order to legally make the necessary calculation in sizing and to judge for its reuse. The report studies a zone of yield strength on steel elements with corrosion. Experimental data was obtained, then processed using the stochastic method of processing empirically obtained data, and it was determined with sufficient probability the values to be used for calculation and design in practice.

Although traditional steel-concrete composite beam has excellent structural characteristics, it cannot meet the requirement of quick disassembly and repair in the bridge. This article presents an experimental study on friction performance of damaged steel-concrete interface in recoverable composite beam connected by high-strength frictional bolts. A total of 21 specific split tests were carried out using different concrete strength, steel strength, and surface treatment of steel. The experimental results showed that the demountable high-strength frictional bolt used in composite beam has similar performance as in the bare steel structures. The initial friction coefficient and slip stiffness were measured to be 0.34–0.47 and 52.3–116.1 kN/mm, respectively. Friction performance of damaged interface was obtained, proving that friction coefficient and slip stiffness will not decrease after the first slip damage. It is also confirmed that shot blasted steel and concrete with higher strength were more suitable in the demountable composite beam.
