Abstract In order to avoid collision and improve the safety of on-line measurement, a contact on-line measurement collision detection method is studied. Firstly, according to the structural characteristics of the probe and workpiece, the dynamic collision detection between the probe and workpiece is transformed into static collision detection by using the discrete method, and then the grid division of the collision detection space is carried out by using the space division method. Finally, the dynamic collision detection between the probe and workpiece is transformed into the intersection judgment between simple geometry, and according to different collision accuracy requirements, Hierarchical collision detection combining rough detection and fine detection is carried out. Experimental results show that the hierarchical collision detection algorithm has high detection speed and accuracy.

Abstract To ensure the human safety in the process of human–robot cooperation, this paper proposes a robot collision detection method without external sensors based on time-series analysis (TSA). In the investigation, first, based on the characteristics of the external torque of the robot, the internal variation of the external torque sequence during the movement of the robot is analyzed. Next, a time-series model of the external torque is constructed, which is used to predict the external torque according to the historical motion information of the robot and generate a dynamic threshold. Then, the detailed process of time-series analysis for collision detection is described. Finally, the real-machine experiment scheme of the proposed real-time collision detection algorithm is designed and is used to perform experiments with a six degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) articulated industrial robot. The results show that the proposed method helps to obtain a detection accuracy of 100%; and that, as compared with the existing collision detection method based on a fixed symmetric threshold, the proposed method based on TSA possesses smaller detection delay and is more feasible in eliminating the sensitivity difference of collision detection in different directions.

Purpose – The 3D dynamic clothing simulation is widely used in computer-added garment design. Collision detection and response are the essential component and also the efficiency bottleneck in the simulation. The purpose of this paper is to propose a high efficient collision detection algorithm for 3D clothing-human dynamic simulation to achieve both real-time and virtually real simulation effects. Design/methodology/approach – The authors approach utilizes the offline data learning results to simplify the online collision detection complexity. The approach includes two stages. In the off-line stage, model triangles with most similar deformations are first, partitioned into several near-rigid-clusters. Clusters from the clothing model and the human model are matched as pairs according to the fact that they hold the potential to intersect. For each cluster, a hierarchical bounding box tree is then constructed. In the on-line stage, collision detection is checked and treated parallelly inside each cluster pairs. A multiple task allocation strategy is proposed in parallel computation to ensure efficiency. Findings – Reasonably partitioning the 3D clothing and human model surfaces into several clusters and implementing collision detection on these cluster pairs can efficiently reduce the model primitive amounts that need be detected, consequently both improving the detection efficiency and remaining the simulation virtual effect. Originality/value – The current methods only utilize the dynamic clothing-human status; the authors algorithm furthermore combines the intrinsic correspondence relationship between clothing and human clusters to efficiently shrink the detection query scope to accelerate the detection speed. Moreover, partitioning the model into several independent clusters as detection units is much more profitable for parallel computation than current methods those treat the model entirety as the unit.

A collision detection algorithm based on hybrid bounding volume hierarchy was proposed using k-DOPs and sphere between complex objects. A simple algorithm to the particular structure of hydraulic servo manipulator was introduced based on the relation of line to line and line to plane to deal with real time collision detection between graphicrobot and operation task in consideration of the bounding volume hierarchy method.Validity of thisalgorithm was proved through experiments . The experimental results show that the proposed collision detection model is simple and fast in calculation, and easy for realization.it can solve on line simulation problem in remote operation for construction robot, and could be applied in simple virtual reality system.

AbstractIn process industry control, process data is critical for both control and fault diagnosis. Timely detection of outliers and mutation point in process data can quickly adjust control parameters or discover potential failures throughout the system. Aiming at the shortcomings of the traditional mutation point detection method, such as the detection time delay and not being suitable for the process industrial data that mixed outliers, this paper proposes a mutation point and outliers detection method that is suitable for the grinding grading system using the wavelet method to analyze the “Efficient Scoring Vector.” In this algorithm, to distinguish between outliers and mutation points in the detection process, we propose a detection framework based on the relationship between Lipschitz index and wavelet coefficients. Under this framework, the detection algorithm proposed in this paper can detect outliers and mutation points simultaneously. The advantage of this is that the accuracy of the mutation point detection is not affected by the outliers. This means that the method can process grinding grading system process data containing outliers and mutation points under actual operating conditions and is more suitable for practical applications. Finally, the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed detection method are proved by simulation results.

Pollard's rho method and its parallelized variant are at present known as the best generic algorithms for computing discrete logarithms. However, when we compute discrete logarithms in cyclic groups of large orders using Pollard's rho method, collision detection is always a high time and space consumer. In this paper, we present a new efficient collision detection algorithm for Pollard's rho method. The new algorithm is more efficient than the previous distinguished point method and can be easily adapted to other applications. However, the new algorithm does not work with the parallelized rho method, but it can be parallelized with Pollard's lambda method. Besides the theoretical analysis, we also compare the performances of the new algorithm with the distinguished point method in experiments with elliptic curve groups. The experiments show that the new algorithm can reduce the expected number of iterations before reaching a match from 1.309Gto 1.295Gunder the same space requirements for the single rho method.

In this paper, we present a fast and robust collision detection (CD) and resolution scheme for deformable cable using a new method based on the shortest distance of cable segment axis. We employ a bounding sphere hierarchy (BVH) by exploiting the topology of cable for reducing the collision detection query space. After searching the collision through the bounding sphere hierarchy, the collision detection algorithm will find the two segments which are close enough to require an exact collision check. Furthermore, the exact collision state is decided by our proposed method. Penalty force method is applied to the collision resolution. The comparative experiments show that the proposed method performs more accurate than existing algorithms for deformable cable simulation without substantial computational cost.

A method has been developed that allows on-line measurement of the thickness of crystalline materials in the analytical electron microscope. Two-beam convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) patterns are digitized from a JEOL 2000FX electron microscope into an Apple Macintosh II microcomputer via a Gatan #673 CCD Video Camera and an Imaging Systems Technology Video 1000 frame-capture board. It is necessary to know the lattice parameters of the sample since measurements are made of the spacing of the diffraction discs in order to calibrate the pattern. The sample thickness is calculated from measurements of the spacings of the fringes that are seen in the diffraction discs. This technique was pioneered by Kelly et al, who used the two-beam dynamic theory of MacGillavry relate the deviation parameter (Si) of the ith fringe from the exact Bragg condition to the specimen thickness (t) with the equation:Where ξg, is the extinction distance for that reflection and ni is an integer.

A nitrification/denitrification process was applied to reject water treatment from sludge dewatering at Bottrop central sludge treatment facilities of the Emschergenossenschaft. On-line monitoring of influent and effluent turbidity, closed loop control of DO and pH, and on-line monitoring of nitrogen compounds were combined to a three level control pattern. Though on-line measurement of substrate and product showed substantial response time it could be used to operate nitrification/denitrification within process boundaries.
