Abstract Today's industrial practice shows that - in contrast to the past years, where gears were designed as standard as possible - machine parts are constructed on the basis of selecting non-standard parameters. This is because producers protect themselves against making additional parts from local suppliers for much less money by customers. The paper presents a geometric and strength analysis of an exemplary spur gear, which works as the second stage of a bevel-helical gear in the coiling mechanism of a multi-module machine producing bonell springs for mattresses. It was checked whether the transmission could be redesigned in such a way as to make its geometry as complicated as possible while maintaining the appropriate strength properties. Finally, there are graphs that can be helpful in this type of reconstruction process, and the subsequent stages of this work can be treated as a kind of algorithm for the discussed conversion of geometric parameters of the gear.

The computer program GearKURT has been created to calculate mechanical gears. The program allows you to calculate gears: - closed cylindrical spur gear - closed cylindrical helical gear - open cylindrical spur gear - Novikov's gear - closed bevel spur gear - closed bevel gear with indirect teeth - open bevel gear - worm-gear. The computer program has a dialog interface written in the object-oriented programming language Delphi and compiled into an exe-file. The program allows you to choose the necessary material and method of heat treatment for the manufacture of gears, to calculate the optimal geometric dimensions and transmission parameters, to determine the design of gears. The program provides all the necessary reference materials in the form of tables and graphs, which must be used to select the coefficients and other values necessary for calculations. The program provides access to the theoretical material of the course "Machine Parts" and the ability to save the results of calculations in a separate file. Recommendations for using this program are given.

While DNA-dependent RNA polymerase represents one of the key enzymes involved in transcription and ultimately in gene expression in procaryotic and eucaryotic cells, little progress has been made towards elucidation of its 3-D structure at the molecular level over the past few years. This is mainly because to date no 3-D crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction analysis have been obtained with this rather large (MW ~500 kd) multi-subunit (α2ββ'ζ). As an alternative, we have been trying to form ordered arrays of RNA polymerase from E. coli suitable for structural analysis in the electron microscope combined with image processing. Here we report about helical polymers induced from holoenzyme (α2ββ'ζ) at low ionic strength with 5-7 mM MnCl2 (see Fig. 1a). The presence of the ζ-subunit (MW 86 kd) is required to form these polymers, since the core enzyme (α2ββ') does fail to assemble into such structures under these conditions.

The ambition of this book is to combine different bodies of scholarship that in the past have been interested in (1) providing social/structural analysis of financial elites, (2) measuring their influence, or (3) exploring their degree of persistence/circulation. The final goal of the volume is to investigate the adjustment of financial elites to institutional change, and to assess financial elites’ contribution to institutional change. To reach this goal, the nine chapters of the book introduced here look at financial elites’ role in different European societies and markets over time, and provide historical comparisons and country and cross-country analysis of their adaptation and contribution to the transformation of the national and international regulatory/cultural context in the wake of a crisis or in a longer term perspective.

AbstractThis paper reviews the development of agent-based (computational) economics (ACE) from an econometrics viewpoint. The review comprises three stages, characterizing the past, the present, and the future of this development. The first two stages can be interpreted as an attempt to build the econometric foundation of ACE, and, through that, enrich its empirical content. The second stage may then invoke a reverse reflection on the possible agent-based foundation of econometrics. While ACE modeling has been applied to different branches of economics, the one, and probably the only one, which is able to provide evidence of this three-stage development is finance or financial economics. We will, therefore, focus our review only on the literature of agent-based computational finance, or, more specifically, the agent-based modeling of financial markets.

Resumen La investigación tiene como propósito la restructuración de la malla curricular del Programa de Ingeniería de Sistemas, de la Universidad Mariana, respecto al área de matemática y su aporte al desarrollo de competencias del respectivo currículo. El proceso de reconstrucción del plan de estudios se llevó a cabo en tres etapas. La primera etapa presenta la identificación de los contenidos curriculares de los cursos de educación matemática del currículo vigente que son pertinentes y esenciales a la formación del Ingeniero de Sistemas. La segunda etapa determina los contenidos que no están presentes en el actual plan de estudios y que deben ser incorporados en los cursos de educación matemática para desarrollar el pensamiento lógico - matemático del Ingeniero de Sistemas. La tercera etapa rediseña los cursos del programa de educación matemática para que sean pertinentes y esenciales, con el área específica del programa de Ingeniería de Sistemas. The reconstruction process of the curriculum took place in three stages. The first stage presented the identification of the curricula of mathematics education courses current curriculum that are relevant and material to the formation of Systems Engineer. The second stage determines the contents that are not present in the current curriculum and should be incorporated into mathematics education courses to develop logical thinking - Mathematical Systems Engineer. The third stage redesign courses mathematics education program to be relevant and material, with the specific area of Systems Engineering program. The subject of this research is the historical writing technique, which allows creating convincing images of the past. The goal of this article is ti analyze the structure of texts written by the historians and covering the period from antiquity to the XXI century. The theoretical framework consists of the idealistic approach towards history developed by the author. This article is first to examine the structure of texts written by the prominent historians of the past, such as Herodotus, Nestor, Karamzin, Klyuchevsky, and some historians of the XX – XX centuries from the perspective of idealistic approach and the use of quantitative methods. For comparison, analysis is conducted on the literary texts of A. S. Pushkin and V. S. Pikul dedicated to historical themes. The article employs content analysis, structural analysis, and terarchical cluster analysis of the texts on the basis of their structure. This revealed that the structure of these texts consists of the factual and theoretical statements, where the firs prevailed until the mid XX century. The use of cluster analysis allowed building a matrix of similarity of the works. The main method of creating convincing historical text lies in selection and interpretation of the the facts in accordance with the dominant worldview or a widespread historical concept. Facts are subordinated to the theory and confirm the fundamental ideas and historical concepts, as well as depict a convincing image of the past. The conducted analysis indicates that theory plays the key role in creating a convincing historical text, while facts are secondary; no significant impact of historical methods is revealed. The major difference between the analyzed historical and literary texts consists in the fact that there is no theory in the literary works.

Abstract Sustained casing pressure (SCP) is a very costly event for any operator either at production phase or at the end of a well’s lifecycle. SCP is a result of incomplete hydraulic isolation across hydrocarbon bearing zone. In one of the gas fields in Malaysia, notoriously known for shallow gas hazard, drilled development wells which have reportedly been suffering SCP. In the past, various improvements in cement slurry design and placement methods were deployed in order to provide complete zonal isolation, especially at the shallow gas sand, yet SCP issue was encountered occasionally. In the current development campaign, different strategy to providing annulus sealing was adopted. This paper discusses proactive steps taken in the slurry design, fit together with the dual stage cementing approach, as a primary means of placing cement above the shallow hazard interval. During the design phase, essential key parameters that would lead to successful placement of cement in the annulus as well as unique slurry design that suits for two stage cementing methods were studied. Risk involved in first stage cementing is one of the most important steps that should be analyzed in detail and put mitigation measures in place to ensure the second stage cement job can be performed as planned. In addition to the slurry properties, such as fluid-loss value, gas-tightness, etc., thickening time and top of cement (TOC) of the lead slurry in the first stage cement job has become enormously critical in designing dual stage cementing job in order to assure cement ports in the stage collar are not covered with hard cement forcing the termination of second stage job prematurely. Besides cementing design, careful selection of the stage collar location and casing annulus packer in the string is also of significant importance in leading to successful two stage cement job. Two development wells with above approached has been delivered and no sustained casing pressure has been experienced. This proactive approach to use two stage cementing as primary plan has proven to successfully eliminate the risk of SCP, which was a frequent struggle in their sister wells drilled with primary cementing in the past in the same field. The risk analysis combined with careful considerations of critical cementing design parameters and selection of stage tool location have become a novel approach to combat against SCP in this gas field.
