ABSTRACT The study evaluated the in vitro activity of ceftolozane-tazobactam (C/T) against 94 unique clinical isolates of Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC). No difference was observed according to the ECC cluster. The in vitro activity greatly varied depending on the β-lactamase-producing profile: 100%, 67%, and 19% of wild-type, extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing, and AmpC-overproducing strains, respectively, were susceptible to C/T. The use of C/T could be of interest for the treatment of some infections caused by ESBL-producing AmpC-nonoverexpressing ECC isolates.

ABSTRACT Enterobacter cloacae is a common member of the gut microbiota in healthy individuals. However, it is also an opportunistic pathogen, capable of causing bacteremia. We report the draft genomes of two Enterobacter cloacae subspecies cloacae strains isolated from hematology patients with bacteremia. Both isolates carry genes encoding extended-spectrum β-lactamases.

ABSTRACT Whole-genome sequencing was performed on 16 isolates of the carbapenemase-producing Enterobacter cloacae complex to determine the flanking regions of bla IMI-type genes. Phylogenetic analysis of multilocus sequence typing (MLST) targets separated the isolates into 4 clusters. The bla IMI-type genes were all found on Xer-dependent integrative mobile elements (IMEX). The IMEX elements of 5 isolates were similar to those described in Canada, while the remainder were novel. Five isolates had IMEX elements lacking a resolvase and recombinase.
