Abstract Boosting is a generally known technique to convert a group of weak learners into a powerful ensemble. To reach this desired objective successfully, the modules are trained with distinct data samples and the hypotheses are combined in order to achieve an optimal prediction. To make use of boosting technique in online condition is a new approach. It motivates to meet the requirements due to its success in offline conditions. This work presents new online boosting method. We make use of mean error rate of individual base learners to achieve effective weight distribution of the instances to closely match the behavior of OzaBoost. Experimental results show that, in most of the situations, the proposed method achieves better accuracies, outperforming the other state-of-art methods.

HE stain images play a crucial role in the medical imaging process. Often these images are regarded as of golden standards by physicians for the quality and accuracy. These images are fuzzy by nature, and hence, traditional hard-based techniques are not able to deal with this. Thereby, a decrease in the accuracy of the analysis process may be experienced. Preprocessing of these images is utmost needed so that the fuzziness may be removed to a satisfactory level. A new approach for tackling this problem is introduced in this chapter. The proposed technique is soft computing-based advanced adaptive ameliorated CLAHE. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach than the other traditional techniques.

Abstract Background Maximum parsimony reconciliation in the duplication-transfer-loss model is a widely-used method for analyzing the evolutionary histories of pairs of entities such as hosts and parasites, symbiont species, and species and genes. While efficient algorithms are known for finding maximum parsimony reconciliations, the number of such reconciliations can be exponential in the size of the trees. Since these reconciliations can differ substantially from one another, making inferences from any one reconciliation may lead to conclusions that are not supported, or may even be contradicted, by other maximum parsimony reconciliations. Therefore, there is a need to find small sets of best representative reconciliations when the space of solutions is large and diverse. Results We provide a general framework for hierarchical clustering the space of maximum parsimony reconciliations. We demonstrate this framework for two specific linkage criteria, one that seeks to maximize the average support of the events found in the reconciliations in each cluster and the other that seeks to minimize the distance between reconciliations in each cluster. We analyze the asymptotic worst-case running times and provide experimental results that demonstrate the viability and utility of this approach. Conclusions The hierarchical clustering algorithm method proposed here provides a new approach to find a set of representative reconciliations in the potentially vast and diverse space of maximum parsimony reconciliations.

Over the past few decades, various recommendation system paradigms have been developed for both research and industrial purposes to satisfy the needs and preferences of users when they deal with enormous data. The collaborative filtering (CF) is one of the most popular recommendation techniques, although it is still immature and suffers from some difficulties such asparsity, gray sheep and scalability impeding recommendation quality. Therefore, we propose a new CF approach to deal with the gray sheep problem in order to improve the predictions accuracy. To realize this goal, our solution aims to infer new users from real ones existing in datasets. This transformation allows for creating users with opposite preferences to the real ones. On the one hand, our approach permits to amplify the number of neighbors, especially in the case of users who have unusual behavior (gray sheep). On the other hand, it facilitates building a dense similar neighborhood. The basic assumption behind this is that if user X is not similar to user Y, then the imaginary user ¬X is similar to the user Y. The performance of our approach was evaluated using two datasets, MovieLens and FilmTrust. Experimental results have shown that our approach surpasses many traditional recommendation approaches.

Previously we reported that tannic acid is a very effective fixative for proteins including polypeptides. Especially, in the cross section of microtubules, thirteen submits in A-tubule and eleven in B-tubule could be observed very clearly. An elastic fiber could be demonstrated very clearly, as an electron opaque, homogeneous fiber. However, tannic acid did not penetrate into the deep portion of the tissue-block. So we tried Catechin. This shows almost the same chemical natures as that of proteins, as tannic acid. Moreover, we thought that catechin should have two active-reaction sites, one is phenol,and the other is catechole. Catechole site should react with osmium, to make Os- black. Phenol-site should react with peroxidase existing perhydroxide.

Muḥammad Saʻīd Al-‘Ashmāwī and Muḥammad Shaḥrūr are well known as contemporary Muslim thinkers. This article tries to map their contemporary ideas on Islamic jurisprudence. The main data of this research taken mainly from the works both of Al-‘Ashmāwī and Shaḥrūr. In particular, the paper tries to analyze Al-‘Ashmāwī‘s ideas on sharia, politics, hijab, marriage and divorce. On the other hand, the ideas of Shahrour on al-Qur'an, Sunnah and Fiqh, the theory of borders, pluralism, the commandment, inheritance, hijab, marriage, divorce, dowry, politics, and imamate are also critizised. After analyzing their lives and their ideas on Islamic jurisprudence, the paper found that their social, educational and practical backgrounds have affected their intellectual formations and ideas. Ashmawi is encouraged by diligence and enlightenment and is believed to be enlightened. Shahrour, however, takes a new approach in order to create the ḥudūd theory as a new way. As well as their intellectual background, Ashmawi has a good queen in Arabic, English and French as well as religion, Sharia, jurisprudence and theology. Shahrour is a good queen in Arabic, English, Russian, philosophy, philology and historical language.

Coordinative constructions are traditionally opposed to subordinative constructions. However, this opposition comes down to denial of dependence in coordinative constructions. Thereby the parity of these two constructions does not come to light: subordinative construction can be described without coordinative one. This situation is not improved by detection of a coordinative triangle in all coordinative constructions. The article shows a new approach in the study of coordinative constructions: a coordinative construction is a system; there are not only specific relations – a coordinative triangle, – but also specific elements. Novelty of the study consists in the address to extralinguistic facts, viz. a mathematical concept of a set and its elements. There are a lot of similarities between them. A set in mathematics includes generalizing elements and the composed row in coordinative constructions; in the first case the set is not partitioned, in the second case it is partitioned. In mathematics equivalent components in coordinative constructions correspond to the set elements. A characteristic property in mathematics is homogeneity in coordinative constructions and etc. It is firstly demonstrated, that coordinative and subordinative constructions are correlative and the study of one construction is impossible without the study of the other one. Their parity is shown in coordinative constructions with elements of one set, in subordinative ones with elements of different sets. Cf.: roses and tulips –red roses. In the coordinatiму construction elements of one set are called: «flowers »; in the subordinative construction there are elements of different sets: «flowers » and «colors». It should be noted that the mathematical concept of a set relates to so called logical aspect in linguistics or thinking about reality.

Experimental results demonstrate bow small differences in depth and water regime have a significant affect on the accumulation and allocation of nutrients and biomass. Because the performance of aquatic plants depends on these factors, an understanding of their influence is essential to ensure that systems function at their full potential. The responses differed for two emergent species, indicating that within this morphological category, optimal performance will fall at different locations across a depth or water regime gradient. The performance of one species was unaffected by growth in mixture, whereas the other performed better in deep water and worse in shallow.

Flow Induced Motions are always an important subject during both design and operational phases of an offshore platform life. These motions could significantly affect the performance of the platform, including its mooring and oil production systems. These kind of analyses are performed using basically two different approaches: experimental tests with reduced models and, more recently, with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) dynamic analysis. The main objective of this work is to present a new approach, based on an analytical methodology using static CFD analyses to estimate the response on yaw motions of a Tension Leg Wellhead Platform on one of the several types of motions that can be classified as flow-induced motions, known as galloping. The first step is to review the equations that govern the yaw motions of an ocean platform when subjected to currents from different angles of attack. The yaw moment coefficients will be obtained using CFD steady-state analysis, on which the yaw moments will be calculated for several angles of attack, placed around the central angle where the analysis is being carried out. Having the force coefficients plotted against the angle values, we can adjust a polynomial curve around each analysis point in order to evaluate the amplitude of the yaw motion using a limit cycle approach. Other properties of the system which are flow-dependent, such as damping and added mass, will also be estimated using CFD. The last part of this work consists in comparing the analytical results with experimental results obtained at the LOC/COPPE-UFRJ laboratory facilities.

Abstract Over the last decade, communities have become increasingly aware of the risks they face. They are threatened by natural disasters, which may be exacerbated by climate change and the movement of land masses. Growing globalization has made a pandemic due to the rapid spread of highly infectious diseases ever more likely. Societal discord breeds its own threats, not the least of which is the spread of radical ideologies giving rise to terrorism. The accelerating rate of technological change has bred its own social and economic risks. This widening spectrum of risk poses a difficult question to every community – how resilient will the community be to the extreme events it faces. In this paper, we present a new approach to answering that question. It is based on the stress testing of financial institutions required by regulators in the United States and elsewhere. It generalizes stress testing by expanding the concept of “capital” beyond finance to include the other “capitals” (e.g., human, social) possessed by a community. Through use of this approach, communities can determine which investments of its capitals are most likely to improve its resilience. We provide an example of using the approach, and discuss its potential benefits.

A number of approaches have been taken to represent compound, structured values in relational databases. We review a few such approaches and discuss a new approach, in which every set is represented as a Boolean term. We show that this approach generalizes the other approaches, leading to more flexible representation. Boolean term representation seems to be appropriate in handling incomplete information: this approach generalizes some other approaches (e.g. null value mark, null variables, etc). We consider definitions of algebraic operations on such sets, like join, union, selection, etc. Moreover, we introduce a measure of computational complexity of these operations.
