Abstract Background Developing core competencies is crucial for the quality of educational curricula in Public Health Medicine (PHM). The postgraduate medical School of Public Health of the University of Pisa developed a core curriculum for PHM specialists (CCV0), adapted from the list of core competencies promoted by the Association of Schools in Public Health of the European Region (ASPHER). Objectives We will apply the Garavalia method, a three-round step-wise Delphi consensus, for adapting the CCV0 to the Italian context. Participants will be enrolled through purposive sampling among the members of the Italian Society of Hygiene, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, aiming at the best possible balance between geographical distribution and professional profiles (PHM residents, academics, and Public Health operators). A sample of representatives of other PHM-related Italian Societies will also be included. Results We will invite 139 participants through e-mail invitations. During round zero, we will collect additional suggested competencies through an open-ended question. We will analyze data qualitatively and integrate the most relevant suggestions with the CCV0, resulting in the CCV1. A subgroup of 64 experts (among PHM residents, academics, and representatives of the included Societies) will participate in the following rounds. The first round will use Likert scales to measure agreement on the appropriateness of the CCV1 competencies. Consensus and agreement will be computed using the RAND/UCLA criteria. The final round will reach out for consensus repeating the same ratings for competencies classified as uncertain, with the help of quali-quantitave summaries of the answers of the first round. The final document (CC2) will report competencies classified as consensus or uncertain, with the corresponding level of consent. Conclusions The CC2 will enable current courses to be assessed and inform the design of future educational programs for Italian PHM residents. Key messages The Delphi method ensures anonymity and a balanced involvement of all stakeholders –including medical residents- in the development of a core curriculum for Public Health Medicine specialists. A consensus on core competencies in Public Health Medicine will enable the evaluation of current training curricula and the development of future educational programs.

Developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of students as rapidly as possible is a key requirement in improving learning outcomes at every stage of their degree. The Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool has entirely redeveloped years 1 and 2 of the undergraduate degree with a focus on students becoming independent learners as early as possible. The aims are to better integrate the undergraduate teaching provision and to complete the Institute of Physics core curriculum in years 1 and 2, in order to focus on research led teaching and independent projects in years 3 and 4. This new programme, entitled New Physics, starts in Welcome Week with the Undergraduate Physics Olympics and continues through the Year 1 Project (Mission to Mars) in the first week of semester one. The aim is to set the standard for collaborative achievement and introduce students to the way that physicists think. Innovative problem solving classes incorporating active learning such as peerassessment, group learning and exemplars designed to improve these skills andenhance the quality of learning among its first-year students have been introduced.

The article describes the implementation of the mechanism of inheritance of educational programs in the process of electronic development of educational documentation of the university. The purpose of the inheritance mechanism is to improve the processes of automated development of educational programmes and to ensure internal consistency of educational documentation. In the course of the study, the concept of inheritance of educational programs was introduced as a mechanism to take into account the information of parental educational programs when describing the elements of subsidiary programs corresponding to this information. The possibilities of applying the inheritance mechanism in situations: 1) preparation of documentation of similar programs implemented on different forms of training are disclosed; 2) creation of different versions of documentation of educational programs, depending on the year of reception; 3) creating one child program based on several parents; 4) multiple inheritance of a series of related educational programs. Functional requirements for the educational program development tool system are described for each of the above situations. Actual data on the impact of the inheritance mechanism in the development of educational programmes are presented. Thus, the inheritance of educational programs is an effective mechanism for developing educational documentation in an electronic environment. This mechanism significantly reduces the cost of developing similar programs, as well as improving the quality of the university 's educational documentation by improving the consistency of its parts.

In order to ensure safe conditions for the education and upbringing of students, guided by the orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and Roszheldor from March 17, 2020, the implementation of all educational programs of higher, secondary professional education, additional educational programs (programs for advanced training, professional retraining, etc.) implemented in the university complex, including the completion of intermediate and state final certificates by students, as well as the completion of educational, industrial (including pre-diploma) practices for relevant educational programs are provided using remote technologies — in the Blackboard electronic information and educational environment, which is one of the elements of digitalization of the university complex. To optimize the educational process, the university developed a set of measures to improve and systematize work in an electronic information and educational environment, one of which was the transition from a traditional paper student’s record-book to an electronic one that functionally fully corresponds to a paper analogue. The purpose of introducing an electronic student’s record-book is to improve the quality of the provision of educational services through the integration and automation of individual information on the results of training in electronic form. The results of the development of educational programs by students in the electronic information and educational environment are automatically displayed in the electronic student’s record-book, which is especially relevant in pandemic conditions. The entire university complex is ready to continue the implementation of all educational programs of both of higher, secondary professional education, in full exclusively in remote mode using the electronic information and educational environment of Blackboard University.

The RWJF public health law faculty fellowship provided an opportunity for legal and public health scholars to come together to develop innovative approaches for teaching public health law in schools of law, public health, medicine, and social work nationally. The fellowship program emphasized the importance of integrating individual change (personal and professional development) with organizational change as twin pillars of the core competencies necessary for advancing public health law education. This article describes the curriculum and learning formats used throughout the fellowship to guide the fellows' development in the areas of leading change, managing conflict, building collaborative partnerships, and maintaining personal resilience.
