A compact frequency selective surface (FSS) for 5G applications has been designed based on 2.5-dimensional Jerusalem cross. The proposed element consists of two main parts: the successive segments of the metal traces placed alternately on the two surfaces of the substrate and the vertical vias connecting traces. Compared with previous published two-dimensional miniaturized elements, the transmission curves indicate a significant size reduction (1/26 wavelengths at the resonant frequency) and exhibit good angular and polarization stabilities. Furthermore, a general equivalent circuit model is established to provide direct physical insight into the operating principle of this FSS. A prototype of the proposed FSS has been fabricated and measured, and the results validate this design.

This paper, which is an extension of [1], treats two-dimensional aeroelastic stability of two coupled conductors. It is found that the wake-induced flutter is symmetric with respect to the horizontal axis of the wake for all cases provided that the sign of the static coupling coefficient, ε = kxy/kxx, is changed. It appears that the spacer coupling ratio, K/kxx = Ω/ωx, is the most important factor in determining stability. For practical purposes, the system is almost always stable for K/kxx = Ω/ωx = 0.8, because the frequency ratio, κ = ωy/ωx, deviates less than ten percent from unity for a typical transmission line. On the other hand, within our range of interest, damping has little or no effect on the stability of coupled conductors. When the windward conductor is fixed, i.e., K = 0, then damping does influence the stability of the leeward conductor.

This paper presents design of micro stage performing 6 degree-of-freedom (DOF) motions, which actuated by voice coil motor (VCM). The VCMs generate forces to perform in-plane motions and out-of-plane motions. The stage is supported by springs for compensating mass of the moving part of the stage and the stiffness of the springs has been chosen to meet the moving range requirement and to have high resonant frequency at the same time. Moving magnet type has been selected against moving coil type due to few merits of the type. The size of the stage is 380 X 380 X 60 mm3 and the motions are measured by laser interferometer and gap sensors.

Abstract Using 2.5-dimension structure, a novel miniaturized dual-band FSS with closely spaced resonances is proposed in the paper. The special design of the geometry contributes to two closely spaced resonances at 1.69 GHz and 2.16 GHz respectively and the frequency ratio of upper to the lower resonant frequency is 1.27. Besides, the two bands can be controlled individually by varying corresponding parameters. The size of the proposed FSS is only 0.057λ0, where the λ0 represents free space wavelength at lower resonant band. Furthermore, the simulation results show the proposed FSS exhibits stable response with different incident angles and polarizations. To understand the design better, the distribution of surface current is analyzed to explain the operating mechanism of the proposed FSS. Finally, the proposed FSS is fabricated and the measurement results are in accordance with the simulation results.
