As technocracy has spread, critical analysis of it has stagnated. In part, this is because the critics take an external perspective on technocracy, condemning it for being anti-democratic. This perspective discourages critical theorizing about whether technocrats possess the knowledge that, from an internal perspective, qualifies them to rule: knowledge of the costs and benefits of public policies designed to address people’s social and economic problems. However, once we thus recognize technocracy as an inherently epistemic enterprise, we discover that there is a democratic version of technocracy: ordinary citizens often assume that they, too, know the costs and benefits of policies aimed at solving social and economic problems. Indeed, we discover that much of modern mass politics revolves around competing claims about these costs and benefits. An internal critique of technocracy, then, will have to challenge the knowledge claims of both “technocrats” in the ordinary usage—epistocrats—and those of members of the mass public, or “citizen-technocrats.”

The introduction considers the place of the spoken word in Russian history, presenting a pre-history of rhetoric and oratory in Russia before the 1860s. Examples are drawn from sermons, literature, theatre, and the universities, as well as from the political practice of Russia’s rulers. The introduction goes on to explain the significance of public speaking in Russia’s ‘stenographic age’, highlighting the challenges of modern mass politics and communications. It further offers comparisons between Russian political culture and the political culture of Britain, Germany, and the United States, paying particular attention to the place of oratory in the political imagination. It concludes by outlining the structure and rationale of the book.

Technocrats claim to know how to solve the social and economic problems of complex modern societies. But this would require predicting how people will act once technocrats impose their policy solutions. Power Without Knowledge argues that people’s ideas, w hich govern their deliberate actions, are too heterogeneous for their behavior to be reliably predicted. Thus, a technocracy of social-scientific experts cannot be expected to accomplish its objectives. The author also shows that a large part of contemporary mass politics, even populist mass politics, is technocratic, as members of the general public often assume that they are competent to decide which policies or politicians will be able to solve social and economic problems. How, then, do “citizen-technocrats” make these decisions? Drawing on political psychology and survey research, the author contends that people often assume that the solutions to social problems are self-evident, such that politics becomes a matter of vetting public officials for their good intentions and strong wills, not their knowledge. Turning to the more conventional meaning of technocracy, the author argues that social scientists, too, drastically oversimplify technocratic realities, but in an entirely different manner. Neoclassical economists, for example, theorize that people respond rationally to the incentives they face. This theory is simplistic, but it creates the appearance that people’s behavior is predictable. Without such oversimplifications, the author argues, technocracy would be seen by technocrats themselves to be chimerical.

Islam is a complete code of life. It provides us with dynamic rules and regulations to lead a perfect, prosperous ideal life. The social system of Islam is abided by certain rules and rights for each and every individual of an Islamic society. Children are the most delicate and sensitive members of any society and are to be dealt with empathy and love. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says “Those are not among us who don’t show mercy on younger and respect their elders”. But, unfortunately we as Pakistani Muslims don’t implement such injunctions. Child labor is one of the biggest socio-economic problems of under developed & some developing countries like Pakistan. Some vital initiatives are to be taken to eradicate this problem as it’s been dealt with many times but those efforts were not fruitful completely. The aim of this paper is to discuss child labor in terms of forceful work that kids are obliged to do which affect their basic education & health rights. I have discussed this issue from an Islamic perspective highlighting the different views of our respected Islamic scholar and followed it by a critical analysis of some of the views.

One of the most remarkable challenges concerning global migration policies nowadays has to do with impeding the trafficking of migrant workers for the purposes of labour exploitation. This paper aims to examine whether Spain has adequately fulfilled its obligations to prevent and prosecute labour trafficking and protect trafficking victims. To do so, it offers a critical analysis of public policies concerning labour trafficking, contrasting them with case-law and data regarding its implementation in practice. Thus, the most recent available data concerning inspection, investigation and prosecution of labour trafficking cases, as well as the identification and protection of labour trafficking victims in Spain is evaluated here. The results highlight the invisibility of human trafficking victims for the purposes of labour exploitation, partly caused by the lack of measures that specifically address this form of trafficking.
