Heart rate variability (HRV) has been analysed using linear and nonlinear methods. In the framework of a controlled neonatal stress model, we applied tone–entropy (T–E) analysis at multiple lags to understand the influence of external stressors on healthy term neonates. Forty term neonates were included in the study. HRV was analysed using multi-lag T–E at two resting and two stress phases (heel stimulation and a heel stick blood drawing phase). Higher mean entropy values and lower mean tone values when stressed showed a reduction in randomness with increased sympathetic and reduced parasympathetic activity. A ROC analysis was used to estimate the diagnostic performances of tone and entropy and combining both features. Comparing the resting and simulation phase separately, the performance of tone outperformed entropy, but combining the two in a quadratic linear regression model, neonates in resting as compared to stress phases could be distinguished with high accuracy. This raises the possibility that when applied across short time segments, multi-lag T–E becomes an additional tool for more objective assessment of neonatal stress.

Objectives The aim of this study was to compare the Electronic von Frey Anaesthesiometer (EVF) and the Small Animal ALGOmeter (SMALGO), used to measure sensory thresholds in 13 healthy cats at both the stifle and the lumbosacral joint, in terms of inter-rater and inter-device reliability. Methods Two independent observers carried out the sets of measurements in a randomised order, with a 45 min interval between them, in each cat. The inter-rater and inter-device reliability were evaluated by calculating the inter-rater correlation coefficient (ICC) for each pair of measurements. The Bland–Altman method was used as an additional tool to assess the level of agreement between the two algometers. Results The mean ± SD sensory thresholds measured with the EVF were 311 ± 116 g and 378 ± 178 g for the stifle and for the lumbosacral junction, respectively, whereas those measured with the SMALGO were 391 ±172 g and 476 ± 172 g. The inter-rater reliability was fair (ICC >0.4) for each pair of measurements except those taken at the level of the stifle with the SMALGO, for which the level of agreement between observers A and B was poor (ICC = 0.01). The inter-device reliability was good (ICC = 0.73; P = 0.001). The repetition of the measurements affected reliability, as the thresholds obtained after the 45 min break were consistently lower than those measured during the first part of the trial ( P = 0.02). Conclusions and relevance The EVF and the SMALGO may be used interchangeably in cats, especially when the area to be tested is the lumbosacral joint. However, when the thresholds are measured at the stifle, the inter-observer reliability is better with the EVF than with the SMALGO. The reliability decreases when the measurements are repeated within a short time interval, suggesting a limited clinical applicability of quantitative sensory testing with both algometers in cats.

Abstract Background Maternal social support has a critical impact on breastfeeding outcomes. Fathers in particular are known to be especially influential. However, little is known about what they know and how they feel about breastfeeding. We aimed to explore paternal knowledge and attitude toward breastfeeding and possible association with breastfeeding rates at discharge. Methods We enrolled fathers of healthy term neonates born at our hospital from March to May 2019. At discharge, a self-administered structured questionnaire was proposed to fathers. Fathers were required to rate their degree of agreement to 12 items on a 5-point Likert scale. A total score was obtained from their answers. Subjects’ basic characteristics and mode of feeding at discharge were collected. Results Fathers showed a generally solid knowledge of maternal (87%) and neonatal (98%) benefits of breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact (99.5%), rooming-in practice (79%) and responsive feeding (67.5%); conversely, only 51% of them knew about the recommended use of pacifiers. Fathers felt personally involved in their babies’ feeding in 79% of cases, regardless of type of feeding. A positive correlation was found between total score and exclusive breastfeeding rates at discharge (p = 0.04, OR 1.07; 95%C.I 1.002–1.152). ROC analysis showed a trend toward statistical significance (AUC 0.58, p = 0.083, 95%C.I 0.485–0.683). Conclusions This study underlines the importance of including fathers in the promotion of breastfeeding, expanding the classic mother-baby dyad to a more modern mother-father-baby triad. This may ultimately impact breastfeeding outcomes, although further studies are needed to confirm our results.

AbstractWe examine the fine structure of the short time behavior of solutions to various linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations ut = iΔu+q(u) on I×ℝn, with initial data u(0, x) = f (x). Particular attention is paid to cases where f is piecewise smooth, with jump across an (n−1)-dimensional surface. We give detailed analyses of Gibbs-like phenomena and also focusing effects, including analogues of the Pinsky phenomenon. We give results for general n in the linear case. We also have detailed analyses for a broad class of nonlinear equations when n = 1 and 2, with emphasis on the analysis of the first order correction to the solution of the corresponding linear equation. This work complements estimates on the error in this approximation.

Generating a group of category-independent proposals of objects in an image within a very short time is an effective approach to accelerate traditional sliding window search, which has been widely used in preprocessing step of object recognition. In this article, we propose a novel object proposals generation method to produce an order set of candidate windows covering most of object instances. With combination of gradient and local binary pattern, our approach achieves better performance than BING in finding occluded objects and objects in dim lighting conditions. In experiments on the challenging PASCAL VOC 2007 data set, we show that our approach is significantly more accurate than BING. In particular, using 2000 proposals, we achieve 97.6% object detection rate and 69.3% mean average best overlap. Moreover, our proposed method is very efficient and takes only about 0.006 s per image on a laptop central processing unit. The detection speed and high accuracy of proposed method mean that it can be applied to recognizing specific objects in robot visions.

Background: Soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) is regarded as a biological marker of infection. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of endotracheal tube (ETT)-sTREM-1 concentration in neonatal ventilator-associated pneumonia (NVAP), to explore the difference of (ETT)-sTREM-1 between preterm and full-term, and to investigate the influence of extrapulmonary infection on (ETT)-sTREM-1 concentration. Methods: In this multicenter, controlled clinical trial of 60 preterm and 33 full-term neonates on mechanical ventilators, we measured concentrations of ETT-aspirate and serum sTREM-1, serum C-reactive protein, and serum procalcitonin, as well as white blood cell count. We initially divided cases into eight groups, based on three categories: preterm of full-term; NVAP or non-NVAP; and extrapulmonary infection present or absent. Groups were compared, and logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to determine diagnostic value. Results: The mean gestational age (± standard deviation) of preterm and full-term neonates was 28.9 ± 2.2 weeks and 39.5 ± 1.7 weeks, respectively, and 32/60 were male. The ETT-aspirate sTREM-1 concentration was higher in NVAP cases than in non-NVAP cases, irrespective of extrapulmonary infection. ROC analysis revealed that ETT-aspirate sTREM-1 concentration had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.986 and a cutoff value of 228.0 pg/ml (sensitivity, 94.3%; specificity, 96%) in preterm neonates; the same values in full-term neonates were 0.938 and 245.5 pg/ml (sensitivity, 100%; specificity, 93.7%), respectively. The optimal combination of indicators was ETT-aspirate sTREM-1 and serum C-reactive protein concentration. All indicators were present at lower levels on days 8 and 10 of ventilation in neonates who ultimately recovered than in those who did not. Conclusions: ETT-aspirate sTREM-1 and serum C-reactive protein concentrations may be useful for the diagnosis of NVAP.

The technologies of geodetic works in monitoring of various structures can still be associated with a number of difficulties caused by the influence of different factors despite the studies of many authors on that theme. The article describes the high accuracy geodetic monitoring of the football stadiums "Rostov Arena" and "Kaliningrad" that took place in a short time frame and in adverse weather conditions. The article gives two geodetic monitoring methods such as creating serving network by side-points method and electronic block tacheometry. The technology and the adjustment of measurements made during monitoring are described in the article. The results show that the use of the side-points method and electronic block tacheometry ensures high accuracy measurements even in adverse conditions for observations. Practical conclusions and recommendations are set out. The article may be useful for specialists in the field of monitoring and geodetic control of deformations of structures.

Agricultural products, as essential commodities, are among the most sought-for items in superstores. Barcode is usually utilized to classify and regulate the price of products such as ornamental flowers in such stores. However, the use of barcodes on some fragile agricultural products such as ornamental flowers can be damaged and lessen their life length. Moreover, it is time-consuming and costly and may lead to the production of massive waste and damage to the environment and the admittance of chemical materials into food products that can affect human health. Consequently, we aimed to design a classifier robot to recognize ornamental flowers based on the related product image at different times and surrounding conditions. Besides, it can increase the speed and accuracy of distinguishing and classifying the products, lower the pricing time, and increase the lifetime due to the absence of the need for movement and changing the position of the products. According to the datasheets provided by the robot that is stored in its database, we provide the possibility of identifying and introducing the product in different colors and shapes. Also, due to the preparation of a standard and small database tailored to the needs of the robot, the robot will be trained in a short time (less than five minutes) without the need for an Internet connection or a large hard drive for storage the data. On the other hand, by dividing each input photo into ten different sections, the system can, without the need for a detection system, simultaneously in several different images, decorative flowers in different conditions, angles and environments, even with other objects such as vases, detects very fast with a high accuracy of 97%.

The world of manufacturing technology is currently developing rapidly. Computerization carried out on manufacturing equipment makes it very easy for an industry, especially industries with a large production scale or mass production with a high number of orders in a short time. Manufacturing technology for machine tools usually uses a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machine. Where the operation of this machine uses a program controlled by a computer and the programmer. This machine can produce products with high accuracy, even for very complicated manufacturing work. Product errors due to operator negligence can be reduced, as contact between the operator and the machine is minimal. However, if there is an error in the material or improper feed, the operator tends not to know because everything has been executed with the program that has been made. Observations were made at the 3 axis prismatic machine section, PT. Dirgantara Indonesia (DI). The milling machine used was the QUASER MV 185 type machine. Part material used in this study was Aluminum alloy 7010. The results of observations and calculations obtained that the average machining efficiency was 13%. Keywords: CNC, production process, efficiency.
