On the removal of divergences in electrodynamics: a global point of view

This paper explores the implications of Dirac’s seminal work on the concept of self-energy of a charged particle in classical electrodynamics. To avoid the notion of divergent acceleration through self-action, Dirac offered an alternative that involved the existence of preacceleration and an apparent departure from the inherent causality of special relativity. It is argued that Dirac’s solution appears naturally in the electrodynamics described by action at a distance. In this framework the notion of self-action is replaced by that of the response of the universe on the large scale. Provided the universe has the correct large-scale structure, there are no divergent integrals either in the classical or the quantum version of electrodynamics. The price one has to pay involves replacing the purely local Lorentz invariant picture by a global cosmological one. On the other hand the price of standard renormalizable quantum electrodynamics is that of the theoretical mass of the electron is infinitely negative, a requirement that Dirac regarded as absurd, far worse than the loss of local invariance in favour of global invariance, the position adopted here.

ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHAn evaluation of the European Union and Turkish policies regarding the culture of living togetherThis article aims to determine the level of social acceptance towards Syrians within the context of cohabitation culture by evaluating EU’s legal structure and public service initiatives in order to prevent Syrian refugees from being excluded in member and candidate countries and by revealing government policies on acceptance of Syrians as “guest” by Turkish society and minimizing the exclusion risks of them. This article consists of two main parts, one of which is based on the effects of law and practices preventing refugees and asylum seekers from social exclusion, and the other is on the results of social perception on Syrians in Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul. At the end of 5-years taking in Syrian War, it is obvious that most of more than 3 million Syrian with unregistered ones in Turkey are “here to stay”. From this point of view, the primary scope of policies should be specified in order to remove side effects of refugee phenomenon seen as weighty matter by bottoming out the exclusion towards those people. To avoid possible large-scale conflicts or civil wars in the future, the struggle with exclusion phenomenon plays a crucial role regarding Turkey’s sociological situation and developing policies. In the meaning of forming a model for Turkey, a subtitle in this article is about public services for European-wide legal acquis and practices carried out since 1970s in order to prevent any exclusion from the society. On the other hand, other subtitles are about legal infrastructure and practices like Common European Asylum and Immigration Policies presented in 2005, and Law on Foreigners and International Protection introduced in 2013. In the last part of the article, the results of a field survey carried out in a district of Istanbul were used to analyze the exclusion towards refugees in Turkey. A face-to-face survey was randomly conducted with 200 settled refugees in Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul, and their perceptions towards Syrian people under temporary protection were evaluated. According to the results, the level of acceptance for Syrians living in this district seems relatively high. The fact that Turkish people living in the same district feel close to Syrian refugees culturally and religiously affect their perception in a positive way: however, it is strikingly seen and understood that local residents cop an attitude on the refugees’ becoming Turkish citizens.

AbstractGalaxy groups offer an important perspective on how the large-scale structure of the Universe has formed and evolved, being great laboratories to study the impact of the environment on the evolution of galaxies. We aim to investigate the properties of a galaxy group that is gravitationally lensing HELMS18, a submillimeter galaxy at z = 2.39. We obtained multi-object spectroscopy data using Gemini-GMOS to investigate the stellar kinematics of the central galaxies, determine its members and obtain the mass, radius and the numerical density profile of this group. Our final goal is to build a complete description of this galaxy group. In this work we present an analysis of its two central galaxies: one is an active galaxy with z = 0.59852 ± 0.00007, while the other is a passive galaxy with z = 0.6027 ± 0.0002. Furthermore, the difference between the redshifts obtained using emission and absorption lines indicates an outflow of gas with velocity v = 278.0 ± 34.3 km/s relative to the galaxy.

The God-father of psychoanalysis Professor Sigmund Freud taught us that the behaviour of adults depends on their early childhood experiences. in the same spirit, the problem of cosmological analysis is to derive the observed present day situation and structure of the Universe from certain plausible assumptions about its early behaviour. Perhaps the most important single statement about the large scale structure is that there is no structure at all on the largest scale − 1000 Mpc and more. On this scale the Universe is rather uniform, structureless and isotropically expanding - just according to the simplified pictures of Einstein-Friedmann……. Humason, Hubble…. Robertson, Walker. On the other hand there is a lot of structure on the scale of 100 or 50 Mpc and less. There are clusters and superclusters of galaxies.

Recent observations at low and high redshift seem to confirm the presence of dust at very low abundances in the InterGalactic Medium (IGM) and especially in the IntraCluster Medium (ICM). We have studied the impact of this dust on the IGM, in terms of heating and cooling. on one hand, with an analytical model of dust emission, we have proved that the dust can be considered as the dominant cooling agent of the ICM at large scale, when the temperature is greater than T = 107 K. on the other hand, with a strong UV Background and a low temperature (Te ≤ 105 K), dust grains become an efficient heating agent of the IGM. These two opposite effects may have played an important role regarding structure formation of the Universe at large and small scales.

Recent advances in physics render a reconsideration of the Place of Mathematics in the Interpretation of the Universe particularly timely. On the one hand, we have the introduction of non-euclidian geometry, which has given rise to much controversy informed or otherwise; on the other hand, we find mysterious forms of mathematics, invented to cope with the quantum difficulties, which so far have escaped metaphysical investigation or criticism. It would seem most desirable that these modes of interpreting reality should be examined from the broader philosophical point of view.

The distribution of matter in the universe shows a complex pattern, formed by cluster of galaxies, voids and filaments denoted as cosmic web. Different approaches have been proposed to model such structure in the framework of the general relativity. Recently, one of us has proposed a generalization (ΛFB model) of the Fractal Bubble model, proposed by Wiltshire, which accounts for such large scale structure. The ΛFB model is an evolution of FB model and includes in a consistent way a description of inhomogeneous matter distribution and a Λ term. Here, we analyze the ΛFB model focusing on the relation between cosmological parameters. The main result is the consistency of ΛCDM model values for ΩΛ0 (≈ 0.7) and Ωk0(∣Ωk0∣ < ≈ 0.01) with a large fraction of voids. This allows to quantify to which extent the inhomogeneous structure could account for Λ constant consistently with standard values of the other cosmological parameters.

FROM the Western point of view the process by which the Goddess gradually established herself in the official Hindu Pantheon is of great interest. As it took place in historical times and in a culture which has known no violent breaks or radical changes of religion, it gives us a fairly continuous series of glimpses which illustrate the ways and means by which this prominence was reached. On the one hand we find accounts of the violent means—wars and massacres—employed by Devi in order to achieve recognition, as for instance in the Bengali folk-epics of Candi and Manasa-Devi. On the other hand, we find a series of philosophical-metaphysical speculations which increasingly stress the importance of the female principle in the workings of the Universe, and finally establish the Goddess in the very centre of things. Like her Lord Siva, Devi has many aspects, but—at least in the official and orthodox view—all these often conflicting aspects converge in the concept ‘The Goddess’, whatever their individual autonomy may have been or still is among the village worshippers. There is no doubt that, however young both Siva and the Goddess may be in official religion, they can claim a non-canonized existence prior perhaps to that of Brahma himself.

We propose a cosmological model which could explain, in a very natural way, the apparently periodic structures of the universe, as revealed in a series of recent observations. Our point of view is to reduce the cosmological Friedman–Einstein dynamical system to a sort of Schrödinger equation whose bound eigensolutions are oscillating functions. Taking into account the cosmological expansion, the large scale periodic structure could be easily recovered considering the amplitudes and the correlation lengths of the galaxy clusters.

The study of the properties of cosmic structures in the universe is one of the most fascinating subject of the modern cosmology research. Far from being predicted, the large scale structure of the matter distribution is a very recent discovery, which continuosly exhibits new features and issues. We have faced such topic along two directions; from one side we have studied the correlation properties of the cosmic structures, that we have found substantially different from the commonly accepted ones. From the other side, we have studied the statistical properties of the very simplified system, in the attempt to capture the essential ingredients of the formation of the observed strucures.
