Elder abuse research based on the analysis of Russian folk works as cross‐cultural communication

Non‐Russian readers of Russian fairy tales may find the stories disturbing and harsh, full of cruel and violent acts such as murders, robberies and other illegal actions. In Russia, however, many children grow up reading these fairy tales as part of an ordinary cultural upbringing. This article analyses the subject of elder abuse and disrespect of age as presented in Russian fairy tale works. On the basis of sociological research of the fairy tales, the author draws a conclusion about the prevalence of elder abuse and age discrimination portrayed in the analysed folk works.

The article is devoted to questions of formation of cross-cultural communication on the classes with foreign students studying Russian language.. The authors propose to include reading of literary texts and their translation in the system of foreigners’ training with the aim of developing students’ practical skills of cross-cultural communication. Authors pay attention to the fact that the literary text helps to understand another culture and to overcome cultural distance. To facilitate the cultural perception of the text, the authors propose a system of reading of the adapted English literary fairy tale by Lewis Carroll " Alice's Adventures in Wonderland " in a literary translation of Boris Zakhoder. The proposed approach differs from the traditional one because, foreign readers have the opportunity to compare the world view of the English fairy tales author and the Russian translator, and also to correlate his translation from a classic translation. The article focuses on the fact that in connection with the identity of the tales author, the author of literary translation and for the foreign reader to different cultures and different national consciousnesses, the teacher together with the students-foreigners, must overcome cultural and language barriers for successful cross-cultural communication. The authors consider that the task of grammatical, lexical and communicative approach aim at achieving the text comprehension. Additional tasks of translation, that extend the capabilities of traditional work, also help. Tasks presented in the article help the student to understand the main thing: the ignorance of some of the cultural backgrounds of native speakers of a particular country does not mean that we should avoid translation work, because this work helps to learn a different language culture.

The present paper aims to compare the principles of choosing a marriage partner and analyse the status of being in the marrriage in the frame of family traditions that are totally inherent to the both of the nations: English and Uzbek. It is known that interconnection and cross-cultural communication between the countries of these two nationalities have been recently developed. The purpose to give an idea about these types of family traditions and prevent any misunderstanding that might occur in the communications makes our investigation topical one. The article presents the subject of international public relations, which can be defined as a process of communication in which its participants originate from different countries and cultural backgrounds. The differences in cross-cultural communication resulting from the variety of cultures are shown on the grounds of classification of cultures presented by R. Gesteland. Recognition of the basic cultural differences, which determine the process of communication, is a key factor to act efficiently as a Public Relations’ specialist in a multicultural environment.

As global access to the Internet increases, so does the potential for miscommunication in international online interactions (IOIs). Unfortunately, many models for examining cross-cultural communication focus on conventional (offline) interactions or settings. As a result, researchers lack a mechanism for examining how cultural factors could affect online discourse. This article presents an approach—international digital studies—for examining how cultural factors could affect IOIs. The purpose of this approach is to identify points of contention or areas where online media can create conflicts in cultural expectations associated with credibility. Once identified, these points of contention can serve as the subject of future research related to culture and communication.

U.S. undergraduate business communication (BCOM) classes teach students workplace communication fundamentals, but may not build the cross-cultural communication (CCC) skills that learners will need in today’s global workplace. This project surveyed BCOM instructors and students about the importance of including cross-cultural material in BCOM classes. While all instructors considered it at least moderately important to include CCC material, most covered the subject briefly. Students showed interest in receiving CCC training in their BCOM courses but received limited information about it in their classes. Incorporating CCC comprehensively and systematically into BCOM classrooms may help students become competent intercultural communicators.

The subject of this research is the works of A. A. Fet, namely verbless poems, which are used as manifestation of his interest in the Orient and ancient Chinese poets. Analysis of A. A. Fet’s works from the perspective of projection on the compositions of Chinese poets and reflection of oriental specificity in his poems is a widespread topic in cross-cultural studies on the peculiarities of the establishment of literature. Multiple Chinese scholars keep seeking similar motifs as the factors mutual interest in depiction landscapes and surrounding reality. The acquired results allow interpreting the works of the poets belonging to different cultures. The scientific novelty of this research lies in combining different opinions on studying the oriental specificity in the poems of A. A. Fet, placing emphasis on the analysis of one his verbless poems. The article presents a compilation of various approaches towards examination of the works of A. A. Fet. The materials can be valuable for those interested in the creative path of the Russian poet. In future structuring the route of interaction and enrichment of knowledge in the field of cross-cultural communication, the obtained result of the works of authors of foreign cultures contributes to the understanding of culture, strengthens relations between the cultures, as well as improves the quality of translation, which is also important in the dialogue of cultures.
