Purpose Wine sales are at the highest volumes ever and warrant a robust understanding of consumption behavior. Consequently, this study aims to examine intrinsic motivational factors (e.g. personal attributes) – those that push the consumer toward wine products – and the extrinsic motivational product attributes (e.g. situational attributes) those that draw – or pull – the consumer toward wine products. Design/methodology/approach A model has been tested in which intrinsic and extrinsic motivations interacted to predict personal involvement (PI) with wine, which in turn predicted wine consumption, forming a mediated moderation model. Findings Support has been found for a mediated moderation model of wine consumption. Thus, this study improves the understanding of how interactive motivations are mediated by PI in their influence on wine consumption. Research limitations/implications The sample is limited to participants in the National Restaurant Show, and thus the results may be limited to the sample investigated. Practical implications The findings suggest using intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors and PI with wine to influence marketing strategies. Social implications This study has helped to expand the understanding of interactive and mediating forces that drive wine consumption. Originality/value Although previous research proposed that motivational factors interact to predict wine consumption, this interaction has not been tested empirically prior to the current study. Therefore, this study adds new insights into wine consumption by demonstrating that intrinsic and extrinsic motivators interact to predict PI with wine, which subsequently predicts wine consumption in a holistic, mediated moderation model.

PurposeTechnology has emerged as a leading tool to address concerns regarding climate change in the recent era. As a result, the green mobile application – Ant Forest – was developed, and it has considerable potential to reduce negative environmental impacts by encouraging its users to become involved in eco-friendly activities. Ant Forest is a novel unexplored green mobile gaming phenomenon. To address this gap, this study explores the influence of user experience (cognitive experience and affective experience), personal attributes (affection and altruism) and motivational factors in game play (reward for activities and self-promotion) on the continuation intention toward Ant Forest.Design/methodology/approachThe authors assessed the data using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) for understanding users' continuation intention toward Ant Forest.FindingsThrough a survey of 337 Ant Forest users, the results reveal that cognitive and affective experiences substantially affect Ant Forest continuation intention. Personal attributes and motivational factors also stimulate users to continue using Ant Forest.Originality/valueThe authors build and confirm a conceptual framework to understand users' continuation intention toward a novel unexplored Ant Forest phenomenon.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the influence of PRINCE2 (PRoject IN Controlled Environments 2) standard on customer satisfaction jointly with vendor relationship management capability in the information technology outsourcing (ITO) context. This paper further tries to explore the above underlying mechanism by studying the mediating effect of deliverable quality.Design/methodology/approachThis paper develops a mediated moderation model to explain the underlying influence processes of PRINCE2 standard, vendor relationship management capability and deliverable quality on ITO customer satisfaction. By conducting a pair-wise survey of 260 project managers in seven Iranian firms, the model and hypotheses are empirically tested with the partial least squares method.FindingsOur results suggest that firms benefit more in terms of IT costs reduction when they have a higher level of complementary investment in an external standard, especially through an interplay effect of the external standard and internal relational aspect. Firms can make business processes more amenable to outsourcing and facilitate monitoring of vendor performance and effective coordination with vendors. More interestingly, we find that this interactive effect is fully mediated by deliverable quality, which, in turn, directly increases ITO customer satisfaction.Originality/valueThis study adds some new knowledge and provides new views to study ITO customer satisfaction by addressing the importance of PRINCE2 standard. This study further enhances our understanding in terms of the underlying pathway through which the PRINCE2 standard jointly affects customer satisfaction with vendor relationship management capability and deliverable quality. With the effort of explicitly explaining the complex mechanisms, this study helps ITO managers proactively escort outsourcing activities and projects.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to elucidate the social information processing theory, which is extended by the (1) effect of whistleblowing education on whistleblowing intentions, (2) simultaneous examination of the indirect relationship between whistleblowing education and whistleblowing intentions via moral identity and (3) relativism in influencing this mediation.Design/methodology/approachMulti-wave data collected at three internals from bank employees (n = 294) were analyzed to test the proposed model.FindingsResults of the study demonstrate that whistleblowing education favorably influences whistleblowing intentions directly as well as through moral identity. Relativism serves as the buffer in the indirect effects of whistleblowing education on whistleblowing intentions through moral identity attenuating these indirect effects in individuals with dominant relativism level.Originality/valueThis study strives to extend the whistleblowing education and whistleblowing intentions literature by unpacking a moral identity mechanism through which whistleblowing education kindles whistleblowing intention and relativism as boundary condition to attenuate such motivation.

Purpose Managers develop psychological contracts (PCs) with staff as part of their people management responsibilities. A second-stage mediated moderation model explains how a manager’s personality influences the content and fulfillment of PCs in different organizational contexts. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Survey data from 749 managers at Australian organizations were collected and regression analyses were used to test the hypotheses. The Edwards and Lambert (2007) approach was used to analyze conditional indirect effects. Findings Managers high on agreeableness, conscientiousness and extraversion are more likely to establish relational PCs with their staff than managers low on these personality traits. The effects of agreeableness and conscientiousness on the fulfillment of the PC occur through the “relational PC” variable. Once a relational PC is established, a manager’s ability to fulfill the PC is constrained by the extent to which polices and practices are formalized. Research limitations/implications Organizations may need to delegate more power and discretion to managers to enable them to fulfill employer obligations toward their staff, and/or clearly communicate to managers their boundaries in employment promises. In turn, managers need to be aware of personality’s influence on the creation and fulfillment of promises. Causality cannot be inferred because of the study’s cross-sectional data. Originality/value Research has focused on employees’ personality and perceptions of the PC. This study is the first to focus on managers’ personality and PC creation and fulfillment.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test whether employee characteristics (age, gender, role and experience) influence the effects of employer brand image, for warmth and competence, on employee satisfaction and engagement. Design/methodology/approach Members of the public were surveyed as to their satisfaction and engagement with their employer and their view of their employer brand image. Half were asked to evaluate their employer’s “warmth” and half its “competence”. The influence of employee characteristics was tested on a “base model” linking employer image to satisfaction and engagement using a mediated moderation model. Findings The base model proved valid; satisfaction partially mediates the influence of employer brand image on engagement. Age, experience gender, and whether the role involved customer contact moderate both the influence of the employer brand image and of satisfaction on engagement. Practical implications Engagement varies with employee characteristics, and both segmenting employees and promoting the employer brand image differentially to specific groups are ways to counter this effect. Originality/value The contexts in which employer brand image can influence employees in general and specific groups of employees in particular are not well understood. This is the first empirical study of the influence of employer brand image on employee engagement and one of few that considers the application of employee segmentation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between consumer wine knowledge and the aesthetics and ephemerality of wine consumption. Design/methodology/approach A survey of 254 respondents for questions relating to objective wine knowledge and frequency of wine consumption, as well as the aesthetics and ephemerality of wine consumption was conducted. Clustering analysis was used to produce four discrete consumer clusters that provide insight into Berthon et al.’s (2009) aesthetic and ontology (AO) framework for the consumption of luxury wine brands. Findings The paper finds that four clusters of wine consumers can be identified that exhibit common characteristics outlined in the AO framework. Practical implications By clustering consumers and mapping these clusters, the AO framework provides wine marketers with a useful tool to segment the luxury wine market and to develop and deploy tailored wine marketing strategies to target each segment effectively. Originality/value This study is one of the first to investigate the relationship between consumer wine knowledge, aesthetics and ephemerality. It offers luxury wine marketers useful insights into targeting wine consumers according to their common characteristics.

PurposeThis study investigated how and when corporate social responsibility (CSR) fosters job seekers' application intention using a mediated moderation model. Specifically, the study explored the positive effect of CSR on job seekers' intention to apply, the moderating role of applicants' calling and the mediating role of value congruence in the relationship between the person and organization.Design/methodology/approachThe study sample consisted of 259 college students in South Korea. A quasi-experimental design and survey were used. Data were analyzed using a regression-based path analysis to test a mediated moderation model.FindingsThe results showed that CSR significantly increased job seekers' application intention, which was moderated by their calling. Furthermore, the interaction between CSR and calling on application intention was fully mediated by the value congruence between person and organization.Practical implicationsThe results suggest that engaging in active CSR can effectively attract job applicants, especially those with a high calling, who are known as qualified workers needed for the organization. The findings can provide a competitive advantage to organizations in this highly competitive environment.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the understanding of the micro-effect of CSR by showing the positive influence of CSR on job seekers' application intention. Further, by evaluating a mediated moderation model, this study advances the field's understanding of the underlying mechanisms of CSR, especially in terms of calling and value congruence.

Purpose Focusing only on the characteristics of the wine and the type of production is insufficient to give a holistic idea on consumer’s organic wine consumption behavior. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of attitude, perceived behavioral organic wine consumption, theory of planned behavior (TPB) control and subjective norms on organic wine consumption intention and behavior. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on the TPB, a theoretical model was developed and tested by partial least squares structural equation modeling method. The sample of the research consists of 304 participants from the vineyards in Izmir/Turkey. Findings The main result of this study reveals that the theoretical model belonging to the TPB is also valid in the case of organic wine consumption behavior. Specifically, research results indicate that attitude has the strongest direct impact on intention and indirect impact on organic wine consumption behavior while perceived behavioral control has the least impact. Originality/value Prediction of organic wine consumption behavior from the perspective of the TPB presents the originality of this paper.

Purpose The Spanish wine sector has gained ever greater relevance not only in economic terms but also from a social and environmental perspective. One Spanish region with a deeply rooted history of growing and producing wine is the Canary Islands, and specifically the island of Tenerife. The wine sector there has undergone notable evolution since the end of the past century. The main aim of these changes has been to improve the quality of Canarian wines, although it is also crucial to design marketing strategies that contribute to maintaining and increasing market share. In this context, it is essential to improve our knowledge of wine consumption among the population, especially given the scarcity of studies that analyze consumption preferences. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify wine consumption profiles. Design/Methodology/Approach This study uses data from a survey carried out on a representative sample of 1,028 Tenerife residents. Discrete choice models are estimated to identify profiles of wine consumers. Findings The main results show that the probability of consuming wine is the greatest among adult men compared to a lower consumption by younger individuals and women. Furthermore, it was shown that the probability of occasional consumption increases with higher educational levels. Originality/value This study examines in depth the individual factors that influence decisions on wine consumption (frequency and amount) in Tenerife (Canary Islands), which has a wine-growing landscape that produces several unique grape varieties. The study quantifies the probability of wine consumption depending on resident individuals’ sociodemographic characteristics. Thus, it contributes to a greater understanding of demand and consumption patterns in the island´s wine sector and allows comparisons to be made with studies for other geographical areas. It is, therefore, a valuable framework for designing targeted marketing strategies to increase consumption and attract demand from potential consumers with specific characteristics.

PurposeSecond-hand clothing (SHC) has kindled a growing interest among researchers and practitioners. However, despite all the benefits that this market presents, consumer adherence still has considerable room for improvement. Several studies have explored the main motivations that lead consumers to buy second-hand clothes (SHCs), but few have focused on the factors that prevent consumers from adopting this consumption behavior. Hence, this study aims to identify barriers through the differences in the perception of experienced and inexperienced consumers in SHC purchases.Design/methodology/approachData collected through an online questionnaire from 127 cases were analyzed using means comparison and binomial logistic regression.FindingsThe findings of this study revealed that having previous experience in purchasing SHCs influences consumers' perception of the barriers. The results also indicate that social embarrassment is the factor that most negatively influences the purchase of SHCs, as well as the consumers' lack of knowledge regarding the available channels.Originality/valueConsidering the importance of the SHC market and its potential, this study reveals what motivates and at the same time prevents consumers from acquiring SHCs. Original findings regarding the importance of channel familiarity and social embarrassment assist companies in defining their marketing strategies and enhancing the consumer experience in the purchase of SHCs.
