This article provides support to flipped classroom pedagogy in the preparation of graduate-level public health practitioners. We describe the participatory, interactive, collaborative, and liberating process of teaching and learning in the Program Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation course, and we provide the results of a cross-sectional study into students’ perceptions of this process. Our investigation found a significant positive correlation between students’ participation in class discussion and classroom learning experiences (Pearson r[49] = .40, p = .004). Study results confirm the students’ appreciation for the flipped classroom pedagogy. However, the results indicate no significant correlation between the students’ learning style preferences and participation in class discussion ( t[46] = −0.94, p = .34) or classroom learning experiences ( t[46] = 1.64, p = .11); likewise, there were no significant correlations between students’ academic achievement (i.e., GPA) and participation in class discussion (Spearman’s rho correlation: ρ sp[49] = .07, p = .60) or classroom learning experiences (Spearman’s rho correlation: ρ sp[49] = .17, p = .25). No significant association was found between both participation in class discussion and learning experiences, with demographic variables such as gender, age, semester in school, and type of employment. The current flipped classroom pedagogy allows for participation, growth, and development of all students enrolled in the course. We recommend more studies to further strengthen current evidence of the effectiveness of the flipped classroom pedagogical approach on both teaching and learning in public health courses.

SUMMARYMarine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems face increasing anthropogenic threats that are exacerbated by the ecological connectivity between realms; integrated land-sea management (ILSM) is a framework that can help address this connectivity. However, gaps in our knowledge regarding ILSM remain. This study reviewed 108 relevant studies to understand how ILSM is being utilized. Summarized are: (1) characteristics of integrated land-sea programs; (2) recommendations made from the literature for program planning, implementation and management; (3) how applied programs have been planned, implemented and managed; and (4) recommendations for undertaking ILSM. It was found that applied programs did not often adhere to the strategies recommended by theoretical papers. Applied programs were less likely than theoretical papers to specifically name the land-sea connection, over 50% did not apply a framework or governance approach, many did not include key stakeholders, and over 80% listed at least one conflict or hurdle that decreased program success. This study highlighted the difficulties of undertaking ILSM given the high number of stakeholders, government agencies and experts involved. Based on the findings, recommendations for future ILSM programs are provided.

Despite the increasing transition from paper vouchers to mobile e-vouchers for maternal health in low- and middle-income countries, few studies have reviewed key elements for program planning, implementation, and evaluation. To bridge this gap, this study conducted an interpretive review and developed a logic model for mobile maternal health e-voucher programs. Pubmed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched to retrieve relevant studies; 27 maternal health voucher programs from 84 studies were identified, and key elements for the logic model were retrieved and organized systematically. Some of the elements identified have the potential to be improved greatly by shifting to mobile e-vouchers, such as payment via mobile money or electronic claims processing and data entry for registration. The advantages of transitioning to mobile e-voucher identified from the logic model can be summarized as scalability, transparency, and flexibility. The present study contributes to the literature by providing insights into program planning, implementation, and evaluation for mobile maternal health e-voucher programs.

Abstract:  Building quality human resources through key sectors namely education and health. In the health sector aspects that need to tackle stunting. Stunting is a condition of growth and failure. This has an impact on cognitive and psychomotor development, sports, scientific development. Stunting problems need to be solved by convergence. However, convergence actions have not yet been understood in depth by each of the stakeholders. Therefore it is important to carry out community service in the form of assistance to the stakeholders related to stunting measures. With this assistance, each stakeholder has an understanding of the stunting convergence action. The understanding is in the form of program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
