Human-robotic interaction system are increasingly becoming integrated into industrial, commercial and emergency service agencies. It is critical that human operators understand and trust automation when these systems support and even make important decisions. The following study focused on human-in-loop telerobotic system performing a reconnaissance operation. Twenty-four subjects were divided into groups based on level of automation (Low-Level Automation (LLA), and High-Level Automation (HLA)). Results indicated a significant difference between low and high word level of control in hit rate when permanent error occurred. In the LLA group, the type of error had a significant effect on the hit rate. In general, the high level of automation was better than the low level of automation, especially if it was more reliable, suggesting that subjects in the HLA group could rely on the automatic implementation to perform the task more effectively and more accurately.

AbstractOur paper consists of four parts. In the first part, we describe the challenge of the pervasive and permanent philosophical disagreement over philosophers’ epistemic self-esteem. In the second part, we investigate the attitude of philosophers who have high epistemic self-esteem even in the face of philosophical disagreement and who believe they have well-grounded philosophical knowledge. In the third section, we focus on the attitude of philosophers who maintain a moderate level of epistemic self-esteem because they do not attribute substantive philosophical knowledge to themselves but still believe that they have epistemic right to defend substantive philosophical beliefs. In the fourth section, we analyse the attitude of philosophers who have a low level of epistemic self-esteem in relation to substantive philosophical beliefs and make no attempt to defend those beliefs. We argue that when faced with philosophical disagreement philosophers either have to deny that the dissenting philosophers are their epistemic peers or have to admit that doing philosophy is less meaningful than it seemed before. In this second case, philosophical activity and performance should not contribute to the philosophers’ overall epistemic self-esteem to any significant extent.

Software program optimization for improved execution speed can be achieved through modifying the program. Programs are usually written in high level languages then translated into low level assembly language. More coverage of optimization and performance analysis can be performed on low level than high level language. Optimization improvement is measured in the difference in program execution performance. Several methods are available for measuring program performance are classified into static approaches and dynamic approaches. This paper presents an alternative method of more accurately measuring code performance statically than commonly used code analysis metrics. New metrics proposed are designed to expose effectiveness of optimization performed on code, specifically unroll optimizations. An optimization method, loop unroll is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the increased accuracy of the proposed metric. The results of the study show that measuring Instructions Performed and Instruction Latency is a more accurate static metric than Instruction Count and subsequently those based on it.

Performance benchmarking and performance measurement are the fundamental principles of performance enhancement in the business sector. For businesses to enhance their performance in the modern competitive world, it is fundamental to know how to measure the performance level in business that also incorporates telling how they will performance after a change has been made. In case a business improvement has been made, the performance processes have to be evaluated. Performance measurements are also fundamental in the process of doing comparisons of performance levels between corporations. The best practices within the industry are evaluated by the businesses with desirable levels of the kind of performance measures being conducted. In that regard, it is fundamental if similar businesses applied the same collection of performance metrics. In this paper, the NETIAS performance measurement framework will be applied to accomplish the mission of evaluating performances in business by producing generic collection of performance metrics, which businesses can utilize to compare and measure their organizational activities.

Associative Computation is characterized by intertwining of search by content and data parallel computation. An algebra for associative computation is described. A compilation based model and a novel abstract machine for associative logic programming are presented. The model uses loose coupling of left hand side of the program, treated as data, and right hand side of the program, treated as low level code. This representation achieves efficiency by associative computation and data alignment during goal reduction and during execution of low level abstract instructions. Data alignment reduces the overhead of data movement. Novel schemes for associative manipulation of aliased uninstantiated variables, data parallel goal reduction in the presence multiple occurrences of the same variables in a goal. The architecture, behavior, and performance evaluation of the model are presented.
