The calculation accuracy of unbalanced magnetic forces (UMF) is very important to the design of rotor length, because it will effect the shaft deflection. But in some permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) with fractional slot concentrated windings (FSCW), the UMF caused by asymmetrical stator topology structure is not considered in the existing deflection calculation, which is very fatal for the operational reliability, especially for the PMSMs with the large length-diameter ratio, such as submersible PMSMs. Therefore, the part of UMF in the asymmetrical stator topology structure PMSMs caused by the choice of pole-slot combinations is analysized in this paper, and a more accurate rotor deflection calculation method is also proposed.

A three-dimensional field solution is presented foraxially polarized permanent magnet cylinders. The fieldcomponents are expressed in terms of finite sums of elementaryfunctions and are easily programmable. They can be used todetermine the operating point of rare-earth magnet cylinders. They are also useful for performing rapid parametriccalculations of field strength as a function of materialproperties and dimensions. The field components aredeveloped for different magnet arrangements by taking intoaccount the back iron. Also the method of images is used. Usingthe field equations, three-dimensional analytical expressionsare derived for computing the magnetic force between axiallypolarized permanent-magnet cylinders for different magneticarrangements. The field calculated results are in goodagreement with the experimental data.

Abstract The torque profile of a double-stator permanent magnet (PM) synchronous machine of 90 mm stator diameter having different rotor pole numbers as well as dual excitation is investigated in this paper. The analysis includes a comparative study of the machine’s torque and power-speed curves, static torque and inductance characteristics, losses and unbalanced magnetic force. The most promising flux-weakening potential is revealed in 13- and 7-rotor pole machines. Moreover, the machines having different rotor/stator (Nr/Ns) pole combinations of the form Nr = Ns ± 1 have balanced and symmetric static torque waveforms variation with the rotor position in contrast to the machines having Nr = Ns ± 2. Further, the inductance results of the analyzed machines reveal that the machines with odd rotor pole numbers have better fault-tolerant capability than their even rotor pole equivalents. A prototype of the developed double-stator machine having a 13-pole rotor is manufactured and tested for verification.

Abstract A canned motor pump for technology demonstration in subsea oil and gas systems was tested to provide data to understand the design, modeling and performance characteristics of a canned motor pump operating in multiphase flow. This paper discusses the impact of multiphase flow and fluid viscosity on axial thrust and motor cooling flow characteristics. The technology demonstrator is a two-stage, low specific speed (Ns∼550) centrifugal pump designed to deliver 140 gpm at 600 feet of head at 3930 rpm. The 61 hp canned motor is cooled by a small portion of the pump discharge fluid, which is drawn downward through the motor by pump out vanes on the hub of the second stage impeller. The multiphase test loop is equipped for both water and light oil operation in low pressure and ambient temperature conditions. Testing occurred over a range of conditions to simulate varying fluid properties and operating scenarios. Shaft rotational speed varied between 2000 and 4250 rpm with pump liquid flow rates from 25 to 250 gpm. These operating scenarios were repeated for both water and light oil (∼2 cP) with multiphase flow ranging from 0–20% gas volume fraction (GVF) using injected air. Testing results indicate a detectable impact from the different fluids and GVF’s tested, which can be related to features such as the second stage impeller pump-out vane and regions within the motor cavities. In water-air tests, increasing GVF led to the following: motor input power reduced by 5%; axial thrust increased by 100%; motor cooling fluid temperature rise increased by 100%; and pressure rise in the second stage pump out vanes reduced by 30% - directly impacting motor cooling flow rate, temperature rise, and axial thrust. In the oil-air tests, multiphase flow showed similar tendencies with reduced magnitude. Notably, the effects due to air injection do not appear at GVF below 15% with oil-air mixtures, unlike water-air tests which demonstrated effects across all GVFs. The test results provide insight into the behavior of variable viscosity, multiphase flow in the canned motor pump cooling passages, as driven by the second stage impeller pump out vanes. These observed characteristics can be used to design flow control features and evaluate operational impacts, while the performance data obtained can be used to assess the behavior of flow models for this application.

This new dry magnetic separator has a special structure. It has many magnetic roll which are staggered like a stairsteps. It can finish the task of separating different minerals with only this one machine. And also it can make the different magnetic material which are in the same mineral separate at the same time. The permanent magnet system is made of large fan-shaped magnet. The magnet pole N and S are staggered and has perfect performance of magnetic separation. And the magnetic force is made full use by going-up dynamic separation. And also it gives an analysis of stress in the magnetic field. It also shows that its separation idex is better, the economic benefits are obvious, and it has broader prospects of popularization and application.

The calculation model of the single turn rectangle current carrying coil was established. The theoretic formula for calculating the magnetic field intensity of any point in space was derived. For a pair of radial magnetizing permanent magnets, the formula for calculating the magnetic force of permanent magnet in the magnetic field was deduced based on the equivalent current theory of permanent magnet. According to the formula, the influencing factors and the changing rules for the magnetic force of permanent magnet can be seen directly: the current, the coil turns are proportional to its magnetic force, while the coupling distance is inversely proportional to its magnetic force.
