The main inlet component of steam turbine is control valve. The stable operation of the steam turbine control valve is vital for safe and stable operation of the steam turbine and safety production of the power plant. However, due to the complexity of the structure and unsteady characteristics of steam flow in the valve, there is not enough experimental method about the detailed flow characteristics of the area near control valve disc and the inside of the valve chamber up to now. This article is to focus on the simulation of the steam turbine control valve interior flow field which includes the valve pre-inlet channel in different conditions, then find the reasons which caused instability and pressure loss of the control valve by analyzing the flow field details, finally further optimization design. The profile matching of the valve disc and valve seat has a great influence on the interior flow field of control valve, so analysis of the high performance valve disc shape and divergence angle of valve seat is carried out, and the research conclusion is used for guide design and development of the control valve.

It has been about 40 years since nuclear-powered merchant ships were seriously discussed in the naval architecture community. But recent developments in commercial shipping include bigger, faster, and more powerful ships, where nuclear propulsion may be an option worth considering. The development of advanced ship designs opens an opportunity for high-speed maritime transportation that could create new markets and recover a fraction of the high value goods currently shipped only by air. One of the vessels being considered is FastShip, a large monohull ship that would require 250 MW in 5 gas turbine-waterjet units. An estimate of the operation cost of FastShip reveals that its success relies heavily, among other things, on the fuel price, a single factor that comprises more than one third of the total operating costs. The alternative, a nuclear FastShip, would save, per trip, almost 5000 tons of exposure to fuel price fluctuation, and about half of this savings would further be available for additional cargo and revenues. Nuclear power results in a more stable operation due to the relatively constant low price of nuclear fuel. The nuclear power option is suitable for high-power demand and long-haul applications and a reactor pack could be available within the decade. A candidate design would be the helium-cooled reactor, which has been revisited by several nuclear reactor design teams worldwide. For the FastShip a suggested plant would consist of two modular helium reactors, each one with two 50 MW helium turbines and compressors geared to waterjet pumps, plus a single 50 MW gas turbine. This vessel becomes more expensive to build but saves in fuel, and still provides margin for cost, weight and size optimization. This paper discusses general characteristics of a FastShip with such a nuclear power plant and also highlights the benefits, drawbacks, pending issues and further opportunities for nuclear-powered high-speed cargo ships.

Small hydropower generation is one of important alternative energy, and potential of small hydropower is great. Efficiency of small hydro turbines is lower than that of large one, and these small hydro turbine’s common problems are out of operation by foreign materials. Then, there are demands for small hydro turbines to keep high performance and wide flow passage. Therefore, we adopted contra-rotating rotors, which can be expected to achieve high performance and enable to use low-solidity rotors with wide flow passage, in order to accomplish high performance and stable operation. Final goal of this study is development of a small hydro turbine like electrical goods, which has high portability and makes an effective use of unused small hydro power energy source. In this research, experimental apparatus of the contra-rotating small hydro turbine with 60mm casing diameter was manufactured and performance of it was investigated by an experiment. Efficiency of the contra-rotating small hydro turbine was high in pico-hydro turbine and high efficiency could be kept in wide flow rate range. Internal flow condition, which was difficult to measure experimentally, was shown by the numerical flow analysis. Further, influence of spokes to support the rotor was clarified. Then, a relation between the performance and internal flow condition was considered by the experimental and numerical analysis results.

Traditional microcomputer fault oscillograph cannot meet the requirements of coal mine substation to digital and networked. A double CPU and distributed coal mine fault oscillograph is presented, the device data acquisition unit of new fault oscillograph use high performance DSP chip TMS320LF2812 to complete signal acquisition and processing, and S3C2410 chip is used in data management unit to complete the data storage, display and communication function. Test results show that the new fault oscillograph could separately installed in each substation and has stable operation and high communication capacity advantages.

In this work, an ASIC interface for quartz rate sensor (QRS) is introduced. Based on 0.6μm 18V N-well CMOS process, it is the first to be realized in the domestic. This chip has a minimized size of 5×4.4mm2. Compared with traditional interface constructed by separate devices, such interface implemented with integrated circuits is advantageous in size and power consumption. This satisfies the requirements of miniature and low power consumption in space industry and military domain. The test results show that this interface features low noise, high linearity, and stable operation. Integrated with the sensor, the entire system presents high performance in short term bias stability, nonlinearity, output noise, bias variation over temperature, and power consumption.

The development of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircrafts has been increasing in recent years due to growing demands in various sectors for critical missions and time saving purpose. There are number of configurations exist for VTOL airframe such as single-main-rotor, tandem rotor, coaxial rotor, tri-rotor, quad-rotor and hexa-rotor. Among various configurations quad-rotor and hexa-rotor configurations have been chosen frequently for various applications through miniature aircrafts. The components and subsystems of such configurations have been widely available for easy integration and flight tests. In addition to that, classical control methods such as proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers have been widely employed for better control of such aircrafts with stable operation. Even though the control methods are available with high performance flight controller boards, the attainment of quicker attitude response and better stability will be a major problem during the flight testing phase for quadcopters and hexacopters. Therefore, instead of directly going into the development of quadcopters, there should be a need for simulating their responses with models of actual configuration. In this paper, a quadcopter dynamics for roll, pitch, and yaw have been modelled as mathematical equations and its response have been simulated in MATLAB using classical control tools. The results have shown that the modelled dynamics respond faster with better stability.
