The study aimed to conduct a cost-value analysis of the production process of a newly introduced batch of external doors in the context of value-added creation and to identify redundant processes that do not create added value and for which appropriate corrective actions could contribute to their elimination. The result of applying improvement actions following the lean management concept was the optimization time nationalized analyzed by eliminating, among others, operations related to unnecessary transport and storage of products. In addition, the optimization production process impacted both shortening the process implementation time and reducing the costs of its implementation. Further activities will be related to the use of the presented methodology to analyze the processes implemented in the company in order to increase their efficiency.

Lean management is a work philosophy of continuous improvement to achieve a smooth work flow by minimizing all kinds of waste including time, cost and manpower. The concept of lean management started as early as 1980’s and was soon adopted by production industry. However, incorporation of this concept in healthcare has been very gradual and hesitant, though lean heath care has immense potential to improve operational performance. A clinical laboratory, which is essential in practice of evidence-based medicine, can be efficiently managed using lean management concept. Only a few publications in English literature have studied the effect of implementation of lean management in a clinical laboratory. There are certain challenges that a health care manager is likely to face in the implementation of lean management in clinical laboratory especially in developing nations. The present review discusses the implementation of lean management in a clinical laboratory with identification of various steps which require lean thinking.

Purpose The development of tourism is emerging in some places of the world’s destinations and the problem of overtourism is an expression of the mechanisms and behaviours of entities in the public space that is a city or region. For many years, on the practical and theoretical ground, various ways of describing these phenomena have been sought. These include the theory of stakeholders that combines approaches that refer to strategic management, value-chain theory, resource-based theory, CSR concepts or those embedded in the institutional concept, game theory and the theory of property rights. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The paper discusses the overtourism problem from the point of view of selected aspects of stakeholder theory on the example of one of the most popular cities in the world – Krakow, where for several years there has been a discussion about overtourism and the effects of this phenomenon for residents, enterprises and other stakeholders. It can be hypothesised that the stakeholder theory and co-management can be an inspiration to seek a solution to this growing problem. Findings The result of the discussed problems is the indication of the role of stakeholders in the appearance of the ovetourism phenomenon and the protection of activities aimed at implementing the co-management concept at the local and international level. Research limitations/implications Here are not many research results and the empirical data describing the problem from point of view stakeholder theory connected with overtourism. It is also the problem of overlapping different approach and theories. This shows possibilities to grow of research in this field. Practical implications Stakeholders theory help to solve many problems in corporate management as well as in public institutions. It gives the possibilities to include in analysis different social groups and entities. This kind of research and approach could be used for creating of the regional policies and sustainable development. An important role to play in the process of creating co-operative structures between stakeholders has co-managerial and academic environments. They can be a place for both discussions, conducting research and a meeting place for thematic groups solving specific problems. Social implications Overtourism is a problem concerning various areas of functioning of historical cities. They are obliged to provide and protect the cultural heritage of all humanity. The theory of stakeholders and the co-management concept create the possibility of managing the ovetourism phenomenon. They have, therefore, an important social aspect. Their goal is to cooperate and integrate activities around key social and economic problems at the local, national and international levels. Originality/value It is an adaptation and searching of methods for describing the new phenomena in tourism and cities development. It is an attempt at a holistic approach to problems related to the common space and resources owned by various stakeholders.

The paper presents the experience of implementing selected instruments of the Lean concept at a steel works. The functioning of an enterprises in the currently prevailing conditions, i.e. in a turbulent environment, results in increased customer requirements. They expect, among other things, high quality of steel products delivered on time at a low price. Many organizations decide to implement the lean management concept without proper preparation. The purpose of this paper is to present the limitations occurring during the implementation of the lean management concept in a steel mill.

AbstractThe article presents the issues of product safety management in enterprises managed in accordance with the Lean Management concept. The Lean Management concept is aimed at limiting or even completely excluding all forms of waste by intensifying and stimulating continuous improvement. One of the ways to reduce waste is to minimize waste and production shortages that arise due to failures in meeting the product safety requirements, quality criteria for a specific product. In addition, good practices in product safety in Lean organizations will be shown, which show the care for the safety of the products offered. On the basis of research, the following will be presented in the article: a general approach to product safety and detection of production deficiencies, as well as the autor’s original proposal for a system ensuring the safety of manufactured products.

This paper presents a simulation study carried out within a private healthcare facility with the aim of understanding whether or not it is able to handle a greater flow of incoming patients as well as the related impact on the overall efficiency. As a result, the simulation outcomes have pointed out the need for an internal work re-organization that has been devised through Lean Management tools and methodologies. The simulation model has, then, been used to predict the intended changes effects as well as their feasibility. Particular attention has been paid on the care administration process, provided that research activities are still ongoing to investigate other processes in the patient value chain where there is still substantial room for improvement. The proposed research work is grounded on an in dept analysis of the main processes and activities taking place in the healthcare facility as a starting point for the simulation model development. Afterwards, simulation has been used for “as-is” analyses and, in combination with Lean Management approaches, for “what-if” studies whose results and findings are discussed.
