Sustainable development and environmental challenges incite to valorize local materials such as agricultural waste. In this context, a new ecological compressed earth blocks (CEBS) with addition of ground olive stone (GOS) was proposed. The GOS is added as partial clay replacement in different proportions. The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of GOS levels on the thermal properties and mechanical behavior of CEB. We proceeded to determining the optimal water content and equivalent wet density by compaction using a hydraulic press, at a pressure of 10 MPa. The maximum compressive strength is reached at 15% of the GOS. This percentage increases the mechanical properties by 19.66%, and decreases the thermal conductivity by 37.63%. These results are due to the optimal water responsible for the consolidation and compactness of the clay matrix. The substitution up to 30% of GOS shows a decrease of compressive strength and thermal conductivity by about 38.38% and 50.64% respectively. The decrease in dry density and thermal conductivity is related to the content of GOS, which is composed of organic and porous fibers. The GOS seems promising for improving the thermo-mechanical characteristics of CEB and which can also be used as reinforcement in CEBS.

Multiwall Carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are frequently attractive due to their novel physical and chemical characteristics, as well as their larger aspect ratio and higher conductivity. Therefore, MWCNTs can allow tremendous possibilities for the improvement of the necessarily unique composite materials system. The present work deals with the fabrication of Cu-Fe/CNTs hybrid composites manufactured by powder metallurgy techniques. Copper powder with 10 vol. % of iron powder and different volume fractions of Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) were mixed to get hybrid composites. The hybrid composites were fabricated by adding 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, and 1.2 vol.% of MWCNTs to Cu- 10% Fe mixture using a mechanical mixer. The samples were compressed under a load of 700 MPa using a hydraulic press to compact the samples. Sintering was done at 900°C for 2 h at 5ºC/min heating rate. The microscopic structure was studied using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The effect of CNTs on the mechanical and wear properties, such as micro-hardness, dry sliding wear, density, and porosity were studied in detail. The wear tests were carried out at a fixed time of 20 minutes while the applied loads were varied (5, 10, 15, and 20 N). SEM images revealed that CNTs were uniformly distributed with relative agglomeration within the Cu/Fe matrix. The results showed that the hardness, density, and wear rates decreased while the percentage of porosity increased with increasing the CNT volume fraction. Furthermore, the wear rate for all the CNTs contents increased with the applied load.

This paper presents the results of numerical tests of the process of forging magnesium alloy ingots (AZ91) on a hydraulic press with the use of flat and proprietary shaped anvils. The analysis of the hydrostatic pressure distribution and the deformation intensity was carried out. It is one of the elements used for determining the assumptions for the technology of forging to obtain a semi-finished product from the AZ91 alloy with good strength properties. The aim of the research was to reduce the number of forging passes, which will shorten the operation time and reduce the product manufacturing costs. Numerical tests of the AZ91 magnesium alloy were carried out using commercial Forge®NxT software.

During the progress of the investigations which I have from time to time had the honour of bringing under the notice of the Royal Society, I have again and again noticed the apparent disappearance of gases inclosed in vessels of various materials when the disappearance could not be accounted for upon the assumption of ordinary leakage. After a careful examination of the subject I found that the solids absorbed or dissolved the gases, giving rise to a striking example of the fixation of a gas in a solid without chemical action. In carrying out that most troublesome investigation, the crystalline separation of carbon from its compounds, the tubes used for experiment have been in nine cases out of ten found to be empty on opening them, and in most cases a careful testing by hydraulic press showed no leakage. The gases seemed to go through the solid iron, although it was 2 inches thick. A series of experiments with various linings were tried. The tube was electro-plated with copper, silver, and gold, but with no greater success. Siliceous linings were tried fusible enamels and glass—but still the' tubes refused to hold the contents. Out of thirty-four experiments made since my last results were published, only four contained any liquid or condensed gaseous matter after the furnacing. I became convinced that the solid matter at the very high pressure and temperature used must be pervious to gases.

The giant hydraulic die press is our country national defense and the infrastructure essential equipment, the synchronous control system is the essential device to the giant forging hydraulic press, its synchronization control performance quality is good or bad will directly determine the quality of the product. This article through the proof of the theorem, gives the specific steps to achieve H∞ robust control algorithm. The simulation results show that: this control strategy has good inhibition to the change of system parameters, robustness is very strong, can well eliminate the system synchronization error.
