The purpose of the article is to explain causes of non-corrosive and corrosive leaks in heat exchangers (HE) during standard exploitation as well as to present prevention measures to eliminate dangerous clogging by scaling and corrosion. The heat exchangers are made of Cr-Ni austenitic steels, belonging to the group of steels resistant to corrosion, called commonly stainless steels. The author of the article has over 40 years of practical experience in the areas of water treatment, corrosion and leaks prevention, as well as heat exchangers chemical cleaning. This part of the article focuses on various cases of heat exchanger leakages, while part two is a compendium on correct selection of technologies and chemicals for removal of scales from polluted heat exchangers. One will not find in the paper neither HE producer name nor industrial chemical cleaning formulas. The present paper describes reasons of leakages, examples of stainless steel HE corrosion and general characteristic of scales within HE.

Fresh juices obtained under sterile conditions, including pomegranate juice, cherries, cherries, red grapes, watermelon juice, beetroot juice, sugar cargo, as well as flushes from the surface of juice-containing berries growing in the Turkestan region were used as sources of yeast cultures. Of 180 isolated yeast species, the majority are Saccharomyces - 159, 71 pure cultures are the most typical for the region and suitable for fermentation. A subsequent study of the morphological characteristics of cells, physiological and biochemical properties, clarification of antagonistic activity, and resistance to antibiotics made it possible for further selection of strains. The most highly active and appropriate by technological parameters were selected: Saccharomyces cerevisiae Al-06 (from grapes), Saccharomyces cerevisiae Gl -8 (from sugar sorghum juice) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae-Az-12 (from pomegranate juice). Thus, the analyzes showed the possibility of using plant materials not only as freshly squeezed juice of pomegranate, cherry, grape, watermelon juice, sugar cargo, but also as sources of active yeast.

Traditional and new washing acid reagents are used for chemical cleaning of internal surfaces of steam-water pipes of boilers. In previous studies, the rate of removal of lumpy and uniform deposits in the evaporative pipes of high-pressure steam boilers depending on the type of cleaning solution and the duration of cleaning was obtained. However, during chemical cleaning, removing deposits is accompanied by corrosion processes of the metal pipes, which leads to their loss. In the scientific and technical literature there are practically no data characterizing this process when using new detergent reagents. The aim of the study is to obtain experimental data on the corrosion rate of steels during the acid stage of chemical cleaning with the use of new cleaning reagents such as Antirzhavin, Deskam and Auge Pro AC 60. The gravimetric method of determination of metal corrosion rate of evaporative pipes is used. The samples of corrosion in cold and heated washing solutions during chemical cleaning from deposits by etching are employed. The laboratory testing has revealed the dependences of corrosion rate of carbon steel of boiler evaporative pipes and corrosion indicating plates in heated and not heated washing solutions of the inhibited hydrochloric acid and acid reagents on cleaning duration. It has been found that the corrosion rates of carbon steel are reduced during the cleaning process and at the end of the acid stage in solutions of inhibited hydrochloric acid and reagent solutions have values exceeding the maximum permissible corrosion rate in a cold inhibited technical solution of hydrochloric acid. However, they are less than those for pure metal and metal with scale. The experimental data obtained can be used in the selection of a chemical reagent for acid cleaning and its optimal duration, as well as in the selection of the method of steel corrosion control during cleaning.

Ultrafiltration (UF) is one of the membrane processes which is mostly used in the dairy industry for the separation and concentration of whey components or fermentation broth. Fouling of UF membranes in the food industry is primarily due to a deposition of microorganisms, proteins, fats and minerals on the membrane surface. Thus, cleaning of the membranes is an essential step of UF separation. The results from investigations of chemical cleaning of a ceramic UF membrane fouled by precipitation of whey components and yeast contained in the fermentation broth are presented. The effect of cleaning procedure on the degree of permeability restoration by the fouled membrane was studied. The results demonstrated that a combination of sodium hydroxide, phosphoric acid and sodium hypochlorite as a disinfectant could be successfully used to achieve an optimum recovery of the membrane properties.

Used cigarette butts represent a major and problematic form of waste, due to their abundance, toxicity, and durability. Moreover, the few proposals for their recycling are clearly insufficient, and new ones are welcome. For a new proposal regarding the reuse of used cigarette butts as acoustical absorbers in building construction, previous conditioning of the used butts is performed. This conditioning includes the elimination of moisture and toxic products accumulated in the filter of the cigarettes. Thus, in this work, the moisture content effect in acoustical absorption was analyzed, and a proposal for elimination is made. Moreover, a chemical cleaning procedure is proposed, and its influence on the acoustical behavior of the samples was also analyzed.

Abstract Some of the foundations of Heyes’ radical reasoning seem to be based on a fractional selection of available evidence. Using an ethological perspective, we argue against Heyes’ rapid dismissal of innate cognitive instincts. Heyes’ use of fMRI studies of literacy to claim that culture assembles pieces of mental technology seems an example of incorrect reverse inferences and overlap theories pervasive in cognitive neuroscience.

The first question to be answered, in seeking coordinate systems for geodynamics, is: what is geodynamics? The answer is, of course, that geodynamics is that part of geophysics which is concerned with movements of the Earth, as opposed to geostatics which is the physics of the stationary Earth. But as far as we know, there is no stationary Earth – epur sic monere. So geodynamics is actually coextensive with geophysics, and coordinate systems suitable for the one should be suitable for the other. At the present time, there are not many coordinate systems, if any, that can be identified with a static Earth. Certainly the only coordinate of aeronomic (atmospheric) interest is the height, and this is usually either as geodynamic height or as pressure. In oceanology, the most important coordinate is depth, and this, like heights in the atmosphere, is expressed as metric depth from mean sea level, as geodynamic depth, or as pressure. Only for the earth do we find “static” systems in use, ana even here there is real question as to whether the systems are dynamic or static. So it would seem that our answer to the question, of what kind, of coordinate systems are we seeking, must be that we are looking for the same systems as are used in geophysics, and these systems are dynamic in nature already – that is, their definition involvestime.

SummaryA routine has been developed for the processing of the 5820 plates of the survey. The plates are measured on the automatic measuring machine, GALAXY, and the measures are subsequently processed by computer, to edit and then refer them to the SAO catalogue. A start has been made on measuring the plates, but the final selection of stars to be made is still a matter for discussion.
