Surgical instruments consist of basic mechanical components such as gears, links, pivots, sliders, etc., which are common in mechanical design. This paper describes the application of a method in the analysis and design of complex surgical instruments such as those employed in laparoscopic surgery. This is believed to be the first application of type synthesis theory to a complex medical instrument. Type synthesis is a methodology that can be applied during the conceptual phase of mechanical design. A handle assembly from a patented laparoscopic surgical stapler is used to illustrate the application of the design method developed. Type synthesis is applied on specific subsystems of the mechanism within the handle assembly where alternative design concepts are generated. Chosen concepts are then combined to form a new conceptual design for the handle assembly. The new handle assembly is improved because it has fewer number of parts, is a simpler design and is easier to assemble. Surgical instrument designers may use the methodology presented here to analyze the mechanical subsystems within complex instruments and to create new options that may offer improvements to the original design.

A novel approach of task based conceptual design(TBCD) has been successfully used as direct guider and efficient developer of unique mechanical structures for many cases of mechanical design. Nearly a decade long efforts of elaboration of efficient every day usage formats for this method have been ended in convenient design pages suitable and applicable for revealing, describing, visualizing and managing the data necessary for organizing the design process from task definition to solutions satisfying original design tasks. The aim of current study is to show steps of a solution generation within frames of a single design cycle and extend this action over consecutive design cycles. Those steps are described from standpoint of general concept design method starting from key model and finished with final aggregation matrice as ultimate step of a single design cycle. Unified mathematical expressions are used for introduction and description of all worked out and developed components of conceptual design. The paper is arranged in a way to show gradual steps of conceptual design(CD) of a power transmission system – a pipe wrench life test machine.

The research goal is to identify and analyze the need of accounting information system related to the revenue cycle at PT XYZ. This paper designing the useful of accounting information systems to support the current business processes, especially on the revenue cycle process. The design method is an Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) which refers to the modeling and design requirements discipline. And the result achieved by analysis and design of accounting information systems can support current activities of the revenue cycle, especially for the documentation and store of transaction data, and generate reports in accordance with company requirements. Conclusions derived from the analysis and design is the implementation of a webbased application that can help PT XYZ to do the work in different places, such as marketing office, head office and especially at the exhibition. AbstractInteraction between humans and robots will benefit if people have at least a rough mental model of what a robot knows about the world and what it plans to do. But how do we design human-robot interactions to facilitate this? Previous research has shown that one can change people’s mental models of robots by manipulating the robots’ physical appearance. However, this has mostly not been done in a user-centred way, i.e. without a focus on what users need and want. Starting from theories of how humans form and adapt mental models of others, we investigated how the participatory design method, PICTIVE, can be used to generate design ideas about how a humanoid robot could communicate. Five participants went through three phases based on eight scenarios from the state-of-the-art tasks in the RoboCup@Home social robotics competition. The results indicate that participatory design can be a suitable method to generate design concepts for robots’ communication in human-robot interaction.

The aerodynamic performance, structural strength and wheel weight are three important factors in the design process of the radial turbine. This paper presents an investigation on these aspects and develops an optimization design approach for radial turbine with consideration of the three factors. The aerodynamic design for the turbine wheel with inlet diameter of 230mm for 100kW-class microturbine unit is carried out firstly as the original design. Then, the cylinder parabolic geometrical design method is applied to the wheel modeling and structural design, but the maximum stress predicted by Finite Element Analysis greatly exceeds the yield limit of material. Furthermore, the wheel weight is above 7.2kg thus bringing some critical difficulties for bearing design and turbine operation. Therefore, an integrated optimization design method for radial turbine is studied and developed in this paper with focus on the wheel design. Meridional profiles and shape lines of turbine wheel are optimized with consideration of the whole wheel weight. Main structural modeling parameters are reselected to reduce the wheel weight. Trade-off between aerodynamic performance and strength performance is highly emphasized during the optimization design. The results show that the optimized turbine wheel gets high aerodynamic performance and acceptable stress distribution with the weight less than 3.8kg.

From the first self-sustaining nuclear reaction to the present day represents a span of three decades: within that time large-scale generation of electrical power from nuclear energy has become acknowledged as economic, safe and environmentally acceptable. Within the U .K . 10% of electricity consumed is of nuclear origin. Some of the C.E.G.B. reactors have been in service for over 10 years. The operating experience that has been gained shows how the original design concepts have been ultimately developed. Some of the difficulties encountered and the engineering solutions are presented. Operating experience feeds back to the design philosophy and safety requirements for future nuclear plant. In this way a foundation is provided for the further exploitation of what must become a major source of energy in the next decade.

Hotel Resort and Cottage is a facility that will later help to develop culture, tourist attractions and also increase regional income. Until 2017 infrastructure development in Indonesia, in general, cannot be said to be equitable because so far, infrastructure development is only concentrated in Java and infrastructure development outside Java which, is less especially in remote areas and border areas. However, this issue canaddress by increasing Regional native revenue (PAD). Indonesia is known as a diverse country of natural and cultural resources, can be the main attraction in the tourism sector to bring domestic and foreign tourists to the area.  The methodology applied from the design of this resort hotel and cottage is research directly to the location to see the soil conditions, contours, facilities around the area, wind direction, view, and sunlight. It is also a reference to some of the existing literature regarding resort hotels and cottages. The area selected for this project is Sipiso-Piso, Saribu Dolok Street, Merek District, Karo Regency because of the many resources that can manage optimally. This place has the potential to be used as a tourist attraction as well as a cultural development place. However, this place lacks facilities and infrastructure. After identifying the needs of generator activities, researchers make the design of Hotel Resort and Cottagein, addition to improving tourist sites and cultural education, this design also aims to increase the revenue of this area. Analysis and design concepts using the interpretation of Neo Vernacular Architecture

PT.Murni Alam Sehat is one of company sell medical device and medicine by prescription or without doctor’s prescription. The problem in marketing department in this company do not have promotion media for offer the products to consumer, no online sell, and order only by phone. To solve the problem in marketing department is build up e-commerce system. E-commerce system use Unifed Modelling Languange (UML); Activity Diagram, Use Case Diagram, Sequence Diagram, and Class Diagram. User Centered Design (UCD) as design method. Program language for e-commerce system is PHP and MySQL for database. The result of research is a e-commerce system website base to help search information product, company could get report easier, consumer can do purchase by online everywhere and everytime.
