We study the effective moduli and damage formation in out-of-plane elasticity (i.e., two-dimensional conductivity) of matrix-inclusion composite materials with either randomly or periodically distributed inclusions (fibers). In this paper, we focus our attention on composites with isotropic phases, both of which have elastic-brittle response in damage. The elastic-brittle behavior is modeled with the help of a fine mesh finite-difference system, whereby damage evolution is simulated by sequentially removing/breaking bonds in this lattice in accordance with the state of stress/strain concentrations. The composite systems are specified by two parameters: stiffness ratio and strength ratio of both phases. In particular, we investigate the following aspects: basic classification of effective constitutive responses, geometric patterns of damage, varying degrees of randomness of the inclusions’ arrangements, and mesh resolutions of continuum phases.

Out-of-plane fiber waviness, also referred to as wrinkling, is considered one of the most significant effects that occur in composite materials. It significantly affects mechanical properties, such as stiffness, strength and fatigue and; therefore, dramatically reduces the load-carrying capacity of the material. Fiber waviness is inherent to various manufacturing processes of fiber-reinforced composite parts. They cannot be completely avoided and thus have to be tolerated and considered as an integral part of the structure. Because of this influenceable but in many cases unavoidable nature of fiber waviness, it might be more appropriate to consider fiber waviness as effects or features rather than defects. Hence, it is important to understand the impact of different process parameters on the formation of fiber waviness in order to reduce or, in the best case, completely avoid them as early as possible in the product and process development phases. Mostly depending on the chosen geometry of the part and the specific manufacturing process used, different types of fiber waviness result. In this study, various types of waviness are investigated and a classification scheme is developed for categorization purposes. Numerous mechanisms of wrinkling were analyzed, leading to several recommendations to prevent wrinkle formation, not only during composite processing, but also at an earlier design stage, where generally several influence factors are defined.

The development of micromechanical models to predict the effective properties of multiphase composites is important for the design and optimization of new materials, as well as to improve our understanding about the structure–properties relationship. In this work, the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method (AHM) is implemented to calculate the out-of-plane effective complex-value properties of periodic three-phase elastic fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) with parallelogram unit cells. Matrix and inclusions materials have complex-valued properties. Closed analytical expressions for the local problems and the out-of-plane shear effective coefficients are given. The solution of the homogenized local problems is found using potential theory. Numerical results are reported and comparisons with data reported in the literature are shown. Good agreements are obtained. In addition, the effects of fiber volume fractions and spatial fiber distribution on the complex effective elastic properties are analyzed. An analysis of the shear effective properties enhancement is also studied for three-phase FRCs.

ABSTRACTIn composite materials for electro-mechanical applications, the importance of the mode in which the constituent phases are interconnected (connectivity) was stressed. For the tensor properties of mechanical, piezoelectric, and dielectric behavior, controlling the manner in which fields and fluxes thread through the composite can make orders of magnitude change in the coupled properties.Examples were drawn from piezoelectric ceramic:polymer composites for uniaxial and hydrostatic (hydrophone) pressure sensing where the 1:3 connected transversely reinforced composite can be shown to exhibit a figure of merit more than 103 that of the piezoceramic phase alone. In these systems, the importance of poisson ratio effects in the polymer phase were evident, and some new composite systems where the hydrostatic stiffness of the elastomer phases may be better exploited were considered. In electro-thermal applications such as in pyroelectric composites, the requirements of small-size and low-thermal mass put rigorous limits upon the scale of the composite microstructure. Techniques which achieve the appropriate scaling were described and preliminary data showed strong enhancement of the secondary effects in these composites were presented.

Nowadays data mining become one of the technologies that paly major effect on business intelligence. However, to be able to use the data mining outcome the user should go through many process such as classified data. Classification of data is processing data and organize them in specific categorize to be use in most effective and efficient use. In data mining one technique is not applicable to be applied to all the datasets. This paper showing the difference result of applying different techniques on the same data. This paper evaluates the performance of different classification techniques using different datasets. In this study four data classification techniques have chosen. They are as follow, BayesNet, NaiveBayes, Multilayer perceptron and J48. The selected data classification techniques performance tested under two parameters, the time taken to build the model of the dataset and the percentage of accuracy to classify the dataset in the correct classification. The experiments are carried out using Weka 3.8 software. The results in the paper demonstrate that the efficiency of Multilayer Perceptron classifier in overall the best accuracy performance to classify the instances, and NaiveBayes classifiers were the worst outcome of accuracy to classifying the instance for each dataset.

In this paper the four classical Hashin-Shtrikman variational principles, applied to the homogenization problem for periodic composites with a nonlinear hyperelastic constitutive behavior, are analyzed. It is proved that two of them are indeed minimum principles while the other two are saddle point principles. As a consequence, every approximation of the former ones provide bounds on the effective properties of composite bodies, while approximations of the latter ones may supply inconsistent bounds, as it is shown by two numerical examples. Nevertheless, the approximations of the saddle point principles are expected to provide better estimates than the approximations of the minimum principles.

Introduction. Innovative, new materials are increasingly used in transport construction, among which composite materials are becoming widespread.Small bridges and elements of large bridges, such as roadway slabs, pavements, railings, composite reinforcement, reinforcement elements, are made of composite materials.Recently, the use of polymer composite materials for the manufacture of lightly loaded structural elements of transport structures, such as lighting poles, drainage trays, railings.Much attention should be paid to the fiberglass composite railing, which has a number of advantages over traditional metal fencing. Unfortunately, at present there are no clearly defined in Ukraine regulations on fiberglass composite fencing, so this topic is relevant and necessary for the transport industry.Problem Statement. From the literature analysis it is established that the railings of highways and sidewalks are in difficult operating conditions, are constantly exposed to aggressive environments - water, chemicals, salts.Goal. Increasing the durability of the railing by using new materials.Results. The analysis of production of a fiberglass profile is carried out.
