Abstract Tethered drone systems can be used to perform long-endurance tasks such as area surveillance and relay stations for wireless communication. However, all the existing systems use tethers only for data and power transmission from a stationary point on the ground. This work presents a control strategy that enables a quadcopter to follow a moving tether anchor. A force feedback controller is implemented using Fuzzy Logic. Using force-based strategy provides effective compliance between the tether’s anchor and the drone. The drone can thus be controlled by mere physical movement/manipulation of tether. This enhances the safety of current tethered drone systems and simplifies the flying of drones. Fuzzy Logic provides an intuitive edge to the control of such systems and allows handling noise in force sensors. Extensive simulation results are presented in this paper showing the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

In transmission line, the series compensation is used to improve stability and increases the power transmission capacity. It generates sub synchronous resonance (SSR) at turbine-generator shaft due to the interaction between the series compensation and wind turbine system. To solve this, several methods have been presented. However, these provide less performance during contingency period. Therefore, to mitigate the SSR and also to improve the dynamic performance of hybrid wind and PV system connected with series compensated wind farms, the adaptive technique of the Black Widow Optimization algorithm based Fuzzy Logic Controller (BWO-FLC) with UPFC is proposed in this paper. Here, the objective function is solved optimally using BWO technique. Based on this, the Fuzzy Logic Controller is designed. The results proved that the proposed controller performs the mitigation of SSR. The damping ratios of proposed controller to mitigation of SSR are 0.0098, 0.0139, and 0.0195 for wind speed of 6, 8 and 10 m/s respectively.

The constantly increasing performance/price ratio of microcontrollers means electronic system can replace more and more electromechanical ones. In design, the goal is not to just replace the solution but also to improve it by adding new functionalities. The paper presents a model of industrial controller having possibility of the classical programming controller, with added elements of the fuzzy logic. Here fuzzy logic offers a technical control strategy that uses elements of everyday language. In this application, it is used to design a control strategy that adapts to the need of individual user. It achieves a higher comfort level and reduces energy consumption. Here we have used a fuzzy method which selects the contractions that best meet the specifications, where human knowledge is involved in a decision making process. With a fuzzy-logic software development system, the entire system, which includes conventional code for signal preprocessing as well as the fuzzy logic system, can be implemented on an industry-standard microcontroller. Using fuzzy logic on such a low-cost platform makes this a possible solution with most AC systems. Each home AC has a sensor that measures room temperature and compares it with the temperature set on the dial. The fuzzy logic controller uses a bimetallic switch and compares the set temperature with room temperature.

Energy demand associated with the ever-increasing penetration of electric vehicles on worldwide roads is set to rise exponentially in the coming years. The fact that more and more vehicles will be connected to the electricity network will offer greater advantages to the network operators, as the presence of an on-board battery of discrete capacity will be able to support a whole series of ancillary services or smart energy management. To allow this, the vehicle must be equipped with a bidirectional full power charger, which will allow not only recharging but also the supply of energy to the network, playing an active role as a distributed energy resource. To manage recharge and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) operations, the charger has to be more complex and has to require a fast and effective control structure. In this work, we present a control strategy for an integrated on-board battery charger with a nine-phase electric machine. The control scheme integrates a fuzzy logic controller within a voltage-oriented control strategy. The control has been implemented and simulated in Simulink. The results show how the voltage on the DC-bus is controlled to the reference value by the fuzzy controller and how the CC/CV charging mode of the battery is possible, using different charging/discharging current levels. This allows both three-phase fast charge and V2G operations with fast control response time, without causing relevant distortion grid-side (Total Harmonic Distortion is maintained around 3%), even in the presence of imbalances of the machine, and with very low ripple stress on the battery current/voltage.

The objective of this paper is to explore a method for the design of fuzzy logic controller for a smart fin used to control the pitch and yaw attitudes of a subsonic projectile during flight. Piezoelectric actuators are an attractive alternative to hydraulic actuators commonly used in this application due to their simplicity. The proposed cantilever-shaped actuator can be fully enclosed within the hollow fin with one end fixed to the rotation axle of the fin while the other end is pinned at the trailing edge of the fin. The paper includes a dynamic model of the system based on the finite element approach. The model includes external moment due to aerodynamic effects. This paper presents a novel approach for automatically creating fuzzy logic controllers for the fin. This approach uses the inverse dynamics of the smart fin system to determine the ranges of the variables of the controllers. Simulation results show that the proposed controller can successfully drive smart fin under various operating conditions.

In this paper we propose the fuzzy logic controller based solar fed grid via various loads. Normally present situation solar power play a vital role to meet the load demand. Solar power is the free from pollution and cost free fuel so in this paper I propose the solar based grid integrated framework, it consist of dc-dc boost converter, 3-phase voltage source inverter and fed to grid via various loads. MPPT based fuzzy logic controller is used to obtain the maximum power from the solar. But our proposed solar generation is intermittent in nature so before supplying this power to the load as well as grid we can control and enhance the power quality by utilizing FLC. This FLC control scheme effectively controls the harmonics developed in the grids. Current harmonics and Voltage flickers developed in the PV integrated grid due to non linear loads and critical loads present in the network. The proposed system is verified in MATLAB/SIMLINK.

It is important to have an efficient maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique to increase the<em> </em>photovoltaic (PV) generation system output efficiency. This paper presents a design of MPPT techniques for<em> </em>PV module to increase its efficiency. Perturb and Observe method (P&amp;O), incremental conductance method (IC), and Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) techniques are designed to be used for MPPT. Also FLC is built using<em> </em>MATLAB/ SIMULINK and compared with the FLC toolbox existed in the MATLAB library. FLC does not<em> </em>need knowledge of the exact model of the system so it is easy to implement. A comparison between different<em> </em>techniques shows the effectiveness of the fuzzy logic controller techniques.  Finally, the proposed FLC is<em> </em>built in very high speed integrated circuit description language (VHDL). The simulation results obtained with<em> </em>ISE Design Suite 14.6 software show a satisfactory performance with a good agreement compared to obtained values from MATLAB/SIMULINK. The good tracking efficiency and rapid response to environmental parameters changes are adopted by the simulation results.
