This paper shows the main results from a technical and economical study for the implementation of new cogeneration systems in Mexican refineries. At least three cogeneration alternatives to match a 50% additional energy requirement (thermal and electric) for a refinery are analyzed. A balance simulator tool developed specially for the electric and steam refinery systems is used in order to obtain the technical parameters for the alternatives, which allows obtaining system performance indicators such as fuel consumption, cooling water requirement, electric and combined efficiency. Standard techniques as net present value, internal rate of return, and payback period are used for the economic analysis. According to the results, the best alternative was a gas turbine-heat recovery steam generator arrangement fueled by natural gas, including the respective adjustments of the refinery electrical and steam systems.

This work designed, modeled and performed economic analysis of the base case extraction and recovery of catechin mix (CM) from Camellia sinensis leaves (CSL) using deep eutectic solvent (DES) and microwave assisted extraction (MAE) with the assistance of SuperPro Designer software. Techno-economic analysis of three commercial scales of manufacture was also investigated and compared using profitability parameters. Sensitivity and uncertainty analyses were further carried out on the most viable commercial scale to determine input variable (s) of highest significance on the profitability of the process. The 3.30 kg CM/batch is the most economically desirable scale with return on investment of 324.65%, payback period of 0.31 year, internal rate of return of 163.83% and net present value of 1,059,595,224. Out of the input variables selected for the sensitivity and uncertainty analyses, CSL and DES costs have the least effect on the selected profitability parameters of the process.

Havana has the highest population and consequently generation of municipal solid wastes (MSW) in Cuba. In Havana, the final deposition method for MSW is mainly landfills. However, in most cases, they exceed their lifetime of operation becoming in reality dumpsites without energy recovery from wastes. In this regard, waste-to-energy is a well-established technology for MSW treatment. The aim of this work was to carry out a techno-economic assessment for a proposed waste-to-energy plant in the city of Havana. A step-wise methodology based on two process analysis tools (i.e., Excel and Aspen Plus models) was used for the technical evaluation. Simulation results are in agreement with data from real plants, showing that it is possible to produce 227.1 GWh of electricity per year, representing 6% of the current demand in Havana. The economic analysis showed the feasibility of the project with a net present value of 35,483,853 USD. Results from the sensitivity analyses show the effect of the economy of scale when changes in low heating value were considered. Finally, a hypothetical best scenario was studied considering the net effect on the average Cuban salary.

Abstract Cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants significantly contribute to affordable healthcare and livelihood security. This study aims to investigate the economic analysis of Syrian oregano (Origanum syriacum) production with total area of 1000 m2, depending on some standard economic indicators. The results showed that the annual net profit constitutes 56% of the total annual revenues. Furthermore, the net present value after six years was a positive value, and the index of profitability was 2.71, which confirms the economic viability of this project. The internal rate of return (IRR) reached 90.67%, which is a good number compared to the bank interest rate. Although this project does not occupy large areas, (a small possession 500-2000 m2 is sufficient for its establishment), but it is able to achieve guaranteed profits within a short period. Therefore, Thyme cultivation should be expanded by providing small farmers the necessary technical support and drawing their attention to economic efficiency of such project.

The vacuum-pneumatic type of the modified shallot skin sheller (MPB TEP-0315) has to be specified its technical and economical feasibility. An explanatory descriptive analysis has been employed to observe, measure, and re-account the details. Results from performance test showed that its theoretical and actual capacities were 52.48 kg/h and 31.24 kg/h, respectively at a machine efficiency of 59.60 percent at a required power (for compressor and decompressor) of 2092.6 W and at a shelling yield of 70.20 percent. The average level of noissiness was 69.25 dBA. Whilst the average machine vibration with or without load were 0.67 mm/s and 1.67 mm/s, respectively. Based on economic analysis this shelling business would be reasonable at a net present value (NPV) of Rp 30.618.320,- at an internal rate of return (IRR) of 68.83%, where the benefit cost ratio (BCR) would be 1.20. While the pay back period (PBP) would be reached in the 2nd year of investation.   Keywords: economic analysis, shelling machine, performance test   ABSTRAK   Mesin pengupas kulit bawang Tipe Vakum-Pneumatik (MPB TEP-0315) hasil modifikasi perlu dideskripsikan spesifikasi dan kelayakan ekonominya. Berdasarkan analisis ekonomi usaha pengupasan bawang merah memenuhi syarat pada nilai bersih sekarang (net present value, NPV) Rp 30.618.320,- , laju pengembalian modal (internal rate of return, IRR)  68,83%, rasio laba-biaya (benefit cost ratio, BCR) 1,20. Sedangkan periode pengembalian modal (pay back period, PBP) investasi tercapai pada tahun ke-2.   Kata kunci: analisis ekonomi, mesin pengupas, uji kinerja

Abstract– Utilization of human waste as a source of energy can produce methane gas through anaerobic digestion process, where the resulting methane gas is converted into electrical energy. In this research both electrical energy capacity and economics feasibility of Biogas Power Plant development from the utilization of human waste  in Pontianak City calculated.Based on the calculation and analysis of electrical energy capacity and economics feasibility, the potential of human waste in Pontianak City produces biogas of 3,091.94 m3/day, methane gas 2,164,36 m3/day, and electrical energy 24,157,88 kWh/day. The result of technical and economic analysis of energy conversion implementation using 250 kW microturbin produces electric power equal to 2,058,254,5 kW per year, pay back period 4 years 11 months, net present value 22,379.004.648 IDR, and internal rate of return of 18,681%, so the construction of Biogas Power Plant is feasible to be implemented. Keywords- anaerobic digestion, biogas, microturbine

The purpose of this is toevaluates a new product called GasCool that will be implemented by the company before this product launch to the costumer. This new product is a solution for the PT Perusahaan Gas Negara, Tbk (“PGN”) to manage their declining revenue in commercial customer segment in the last 4 years. This study used an economic analysis to evaluates GasCool using three parameters. The parameters consist of Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return and Payback Period. The result indicates that GasCool is feasible to be implemented and sell to the commercial segment customer. The economic analysis has shown that selling GasColl will generate17.6% Internal Rate of Return and 5.5 years Payback Period. Furthermore, the Net Present Value from selling GasCool is Rp10,4 billion in 10 years of implementation and the discount rate for economic analysis is 8.2%.
