The influence of the continental lithosphere and its root (or keel) on the continental drift of Earth is a key element in the history of plate tectonics. Previous geodynamic studies of mantle flow suggested that the cratonic root is moderately mechanically coupled with the underlying mantle, and stable continental drift on Earth's timescales occurs when the effective viscosity contrast between the continental lithosphere and the underlying mantle is approximately 103. Both geodynamics and seismological studies indicate that mechanically weak mobile belts (i.e., orogenic or suture zones) that surround cratons may play a role in the longevity of the cratonic lithosphere over geologically long timescales (i.e., over 1,000 million years) because they act as a buffer region against the high-viscosity cratons. Low-viscosity asthenosphere, characterized by slow seismic velocities, reduces the basal drag force acting on the cratonic root, which may also contribute to the longevity of the cratonic lithosphere. ▪ The role of the continental lithosphere and its root on the continental drift is reviewed from recent geodynamic and seismological studies. ▪ The cratonic root is moderately mechanically coupled with the underlying mantle and deformed by mantle flow over geological timescales. ▪ Orogenic belts or suture zones that surround cratons act as a buffer to protect cratons and are essential for their longevity. ▪ Low-viscosity asthenosphere may reduce the basal drag acting on the cratonic root and also contribute to its stability and longevity. A method is described in an attempt to make medical records suitable for epidemiologigri: purposes. Every case of a disease is recorded on an appropriate punched card with the object of working towards a general description of a disease through the collation of several cases of the same diagnosis. This punched card represents a very great condensation of the original record. Special care has been applied to state as precisely as possible the time variable, particularly as far as its origin and unit of measure are concerned, in order to demonstrate the existence of causal relations between diseases. Such cards are also intended to make easier statistical studies in clinical pathology, in evaluation of new laboratory techniques, and in therapeutical trials.

Currently, the problem of reactive arthritis (ReA) retains its importance due to the fairly high prevalence of the disease, primarily in Russia. Analysis of epidemiological data allows us to put forward a number of possible reasons explaining the different frequency of ReA in certain regions of the Russian Federation and in other countries. The lecture describes the clinical picture of the disease, as well as analyzes the significance of various laboratory techniques aimed at identifying the causative agent of ReA. The Russian diagnostic criteria for ReA are presented. The main approaches to the therapy of ReA are outlined with an emphasis on the use of antimicrobial drugs. The effectiveness and safety of drug immunocorrection (inducers of interferon, polyoxidonium, immunofan, etc.) in the treatment of urogenital chlamydia in patients with ReA have not been confirmed by data from randomized controlled trials.

The origins and characteristics of sludges are described in relation to the need to dewater them for ultimate disposal. Various methods for conditioning sludge to facilitate subsequent dewatering are discussed, including physical, thermal and chemical methods. The special features of conditioning by polyelectrolytes are described and an account is given of laboratory techniques for comparing the relative efficiency of conditioners.

Background:Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) which play an important role in various cellular processes are important in medicine as well as in drug design strategies. Different studies have shown that ncRNAs are dis-regulated in cancer cells and play an important role in human tumorigenesis. Therefore, it is important to identify and predict such molecules by experimental and computational methods, respectively. However, to avoid expensive experimental methods, computational algorithms have been developed for accurately and fast prediction of ncRNAs.Objective:The aim of this review was to introduce the experimental and computational methods to identify and predict ncRNAs structure. Also, we explained the ncRNA’s roles in cellular processes and drugs design, briefly.Method:In this survey, we will introduce ncRNAs and their roles in biological and medicinal processes. Then, some important laboratory techniques will be studied to identify ncRNAs. Finally, the state-of-the-art models and algorithms will be introduced along with important tools and databases. Results:The results showed that the integration of experimental and computational approaches improves to identify ncRNAs. Moreover, the high accurate databases, algorithms and tools were compared to predict the ncRNAs.Conclusion:ncRNAs prediction is an exciting research field, but there are different difficulties. It requires accurate and reliable algorithms and tools. Also, it should be mentioned that computational costs of such algorithm including running time and usage memory are very important. Finally, some suggestions were presented to improve computational methods of ncRNAs gene and structural prediction.
