Azo coupling of the diazotized 6-(2-aminophenyl)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazine-3,5-dione with ethyl cyanoacetylcarbamate and diethyl malonyl-bis-carbamate has been used for preparation of the hydrazones I and II. The latter substances have been boiled in strongly acidic medium to give 2,3,4,6-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazino[5,6-c]cinnoline-3-one (III) which has also been obtained by reduction of the mentioned diazonium salt with alkali sulphite and sebsequent cyclization of the formed hydrazine sulphonate by boiling in acid medium. In alkaline medium the hydrazones I and II have been cyclized to the nitrile IV and to 2-[2-(3,5-dioxo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazin-6-yl)-phenyl]-3,5-dioxo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazine-6-carboxylic acid (V), respectively.

Hybrid ternary nanomaterials based on conjugated polymer polydiphenylamine-2-carboxylic acid (PDPAC) (poly-N-phenylanthranilic acid), Fe3O4 nanoparticles and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) were prepared for the first time. Polymer–metal–carbon Fe3O4/SWCNT/PDPAC nanocomposites were synthesized via in situ oxidative polymerization of diphenylamine-2-carboxylic acid (DPAC) by two different ways: in an acidic medium and in the interfacial process in an alkaline medium. In an alkaline medium (pH 11.4), the entire process of Fe3O4/SWCNT/PDPAC-1 synthesis was carried out in one reaction vessel without intermediate stages of product extraction and purification. In an acidic medium (pH 0.3), to prepare the Fe3O4/SWCNT/PDPAC-2 nanocomposites, prefabricated magnetite nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of obtained SWCNT/PDPAC-2. The phase composition of the nanocomposites does not depend on the synthesis reaction medium pH. The influence of the reaction medium pH on the structure, morphology, thermal, magnetic, and electrical properties of the obtained ternary nanocomposites was studied.

Oxidation of Trypan Blue with cerium(IV) ion in acid medium gives arenediazonium cation similar to the oxidation product of N,N-dimethyl-4-aminoazobenzene. Quantitative evaluation of the arenediazonium salt formed has been carried out spectrophotometrically after previous C-azo coupling with 2-naphthol.

Corrosion behavior of mild steel in acidic medium usingAdhatoda Vasica(AV) extract was investigated. The inhibitive effective ofAdhatoda Vasicaon the corrosion of mild steel in different acidic medium has been studied by weight loss and polarization methods. The Ecorrvalues are shifted slightly towards negative side in presence of inhibitors which indicate the inhibitors inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in acids solution by controlling both anodic and cathodic reactions due to the blocking of active sites on the metal surface. It is evident that inhibitors bring about considerable polarization of the cathode as well as anode. It was, therefore, inferred that the inhibitive action is of mixed type.

Abstract A sensitive and accurate method is described for the determination of N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (NAPA) and its metabolites in urine and serum. In strongly acidic medium, p-aminophenol (PAP) resulting from differential extraction and acid hydrolysis of total NAPA and unconjugated NAPA, is diazotized and the diazonium salt coupled with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine (NED) in the presence of ethanol. The blue azo dye formed is determined spectrophotometrically. Application to liver disease is briefly reported.

The work consists on the study of a sulphur–oxidizing bacteria (At. thiooxidans) immobilisation over polyurethane foam and the integration of two continuous processes: the solubilization of heavy metals by acidic medium generated by sulphur-oxidizing bacteria and the subsequent precipitation of metals as sulphides with H2S biologically generated by sulphate-reducing bacteria (Desulfovibrio sp). At. thiooxidans was satisfactory immobilised over polyurethane foam and added to a column reactor. Acidic medium generated was added to a column with 50 g of an artificial contaminated sand (85 mg Cr(III), 20 mg Ni(II), 200 mg Zn(II)). The effluent of this step was collected in a reservoir tank, in which H2S from sulphate-reducing reactor was included to carry out the precipitation of metals. After 2.4 l of acid medium was passed through the column, it was observed that 14.6% of Cr(III), 26.7% of Ni(II) and 90.5% of Zn(II) were solubilized. The leachate was treated with 2.2 l of reducing medium, and 2.2% Cr(III),54% Ni(II) and 28% Zn(II) were precipitated.

Reversed phase transfer catalysis (RPTC) was applied to synthesize the Naphthol AS-D pigment. This method consists in the transfer of the aryldiazonium cation 4-nitrobenzenediazonium from aqueous medium into the organic phase (nitrobenzene) in the form of a lipophilic ions pair by the catalyst used (perfluorooctyl potassium sulfonates). In the organic phase the azo-coupling reaction between 4-nitrobenzenediazonium chloride and 3-hydroxy-2-carboxylic acid 2-methyl-anilide (Naphthol AS-D) takes place as coupling component. Using this unconventional method of synthesis, an increase of the reaction rate, combined with a higher purity of the product, was obtained.

Regularities of akyltrimethylammoniachloride sorption abstraction from water solutions with hydrolytic lignin have been studied. Two characteristic pH areas of a cation surface-active substance concentration different in the nature of sorbate/sorbent interaction have been singled out. In the acid medium the sorbate’s adsorption by hydrolytic lignin takes place due to physical adsorption. In the subacid and alkaline medium the sorbate/sorbent interaction occurs due to chemical adsorption.
