In the past, Taiwan's spatial planning has focused on the development of urban areas and overlooked rural areas, which has led to difficulty in promoting rural-urban relationships. This study suggests that rural areas should not just be seen as single entities, but as a collection of distinct areas. Since it is becoming important to develop a new spatial planning in Taiwan, this study examines territorial space structure from a regional perspective, with a focus on the development of the rural areas of Yunlin & Chiayi. Consequently, this study aims to classify rural areas by the procedure of typology, in terms of their development dynamics, location, and economic structure, selecting appropriate indicators for each focus of inquiry. The study then uses cluster analysis, accessibility analysis and overlay analysis methods to classify information about these rural areas. This approach will show the differences in their spatial characteristics along with their histories of development through time, as well as the relationship between these rural areas and the overall region in which they are situated. It is hoped that this research will provide a more accurate description than currently exists of the rural areas studied in this paper, and that this information will be a useful resource to those who are developing new plans and policies, so that better integration can occur between urban and rural in Taiwan.

The Space syntax methodology is a theory that proposes criticality of each space quantitatively by analyzing space structure. The space structure is analyzed by computer program. In this study, the most appropriate analysis for irregular pedestrian network was considered among the various analysis methods in space syntax. The pedestrian network was analyzed using axial map and Segment map in and around Paldalmoon, Suwon. As a result of the analysis, the segment map showed higher numeric value with 0.79 than axial map with 0.61; however, the global integration in axial map showed the highest result value in the relationship with pedestrian network.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the design elements of environmental features that affect consumer experience in shopping malls and develop a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between architectural design and consumer experience.Design/methodology/approachThrough the systematic literature review, 13 design elements were obtained and then verified through interviews of 30 professional designers. The obtained elements were made into a questionnaire to collect data across China from 1,016 consumers of different groups. Data were analyzed using cluster analysis, principal component analysis and difference analysis.FindingsThe results show that design elements that influence consumer experience in shopping malls are a four-dimensional construct: visual atmosphere, physical environment comfort, space structure and business planning, among which space structure and business planning play a larger role in the consumer experience. In addition, the perception differences of consumers for those elements are significant due to the individual differences.Originality/valueThis paper comprehensively investigates the architectural design elements affecting consumer experience in the Chinese mall context. Moreover, it provides unique insights about the relationship between architectural design and consumer experience by exploring the categories, weights and perception differences of those elements.

The rivers are the important environmental factors to influence and restrict the urban structure morphology. Based on reviewing the relationship between rivers and urban structure at different historical period, analyzing the problems about constructing the spatial structure of the water net city in china, the article discusses the method of the urban structure morphology in water net cities. With the example of Nanning development, analyzing natural environment and space structure on the basis of water net feature, the article proposes spatial structure morphology idea and method in order to provide reference for city development and active interaction.

Oxidative depolymerization of low-rank coals is promising for obtaining benzene carboxylic acids (BCAs). However, it is hindered by the low yield of BCAs along with a large number of alphatic acids. Thermal dissolution could modify the physico-chemical structural features of low-rank coals, which is expected to improve the oxidation of LRCs. In this paper, lignite and subbituminous coal were firstly subjected to thermal dissolution with cyclohexane at 250 °C for 2 h. Then, the raw coal and the corresponding thermal insoluble portion (TIP) were oxidized by NaOCl under the same conditions. The residual yields of TIPs oxidation were both lower than those of raw coals oxidation, indicating that TIPs were more easily oxidized than the raw coals. The yield of BCAs obtained by TIPs oxidation was above 19% higher than that from the oxidation of raw coals. Meanwhile, the selectivity of BCAs was improved in the resulting oxidation products from TIPs compared with that from the raw coals. The relationship between BCAs generation and thermal dissolution of low rank coals was investigated by ultimate analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis. The results suggested that thermal dissolution could enrich aromatic portion in the remaining TIPs, resulting in an increasing of the yield and selectivity of BCAs. Simultaneously, thermal dissolution raised the specific surface area and expanded the looser space structure of TIPS, which were beneficial for the sufficient collision between aromatic structures and oxidant, facilitating the oxidative depolymerization of TIPs. This investigation would provide a novel route for promoting BCAs production by mild oxidative depolymerization of low-rank coals.

The steel-concrete composite ribbed shell is a kind of novel space structure. In this paper, using space beam element and shell element, based on the nonlinear FE theory, considering the elastic-plastic material and geometric nonlinear, in view of the system dynamic response of identifying method, dynamic stability of steel-concrete composite ribbed shell under vertical step loads are studied. Setting up the relationship, it is between load amplitude and dynamic response of the structures, comparing rigid joint with hinge joint on the edge of structure, Critical load conditions of dynamic stability are defined.

Abstract - Apart from paying close attention to architecture as a constructional skill connected with material structure and construction, tectonics also covers its expression. One of the architects closely associated with tectonics is Y.B. Mangunwijaya, and in each of his works of architecture the tectonic content is put to the front or highlighted. Referring to Kenneth Frampton’s definition of tectonics as the Art of Joinings, it may be quite interesting to focus on the relationship between the three purposes to be found in a work of architecture, namely spatial distribution, construction, and ornamention.. One of the architectural works designed by Y.B. Mangunwijaya that has given shape to these three objectives is the Gua Maria Complex devoted to Mother Mary in Sendangsono. In Sendangsono there is a main route for pilgrims that is most commonly visited and passed by visitors to this sacred place. The analysis of architectural tectonics in this research study has been limited based on the ordering of the space passed via the main pilgrim route in Sendangsono. The spatial sequence consists of an entry, the Way of the Cross (Via Crucis), a basin for holy water, a yard featuring the Cave of Mother Mary (Gua Maria), and finally the yard across the river. Its scope includes the tectonics of space, structure, and ornamentation. The analysis indicates that the architectural tectonics in this complex has been designed with the concept of oneness and respect for nature in mind, so hat it has become one with the surrounding natural elements. The local materials used are environment-friendly. The next step is to further refine the elements used for this spatial and structural lay-out by way of ornamentation in order to enrich the Christian significance of it all. Keywords: architecture, tectonics, Y.B.
