We report measurements of inclusive cross sections times branching ratios in electrons, muons or taus for W and Z bosons produced in [Formula: see text] collisions at 1.96 TeV using data collected with the DØ and CDF detectors in 2002-2004. Using the ratio of the cross sections times branching ratios for the W and Z bosons we also obtain constraints on the total decay width of the W boson.

We present the phenomenology of the low scale U(1)B–L extension of the standard model and its implications at LHC. We show that this model provides a natural explanation for the presence of three right-handed neutrinos and can naturally account the observed neutrino masses and mixing. We study the decay and production of the extra gauge boson and the SM singlet scalar (heavy Higgs) predicted in this type of models. We find that the cross sections of the SM-like Higgs production are reduced by ~ 20% – 30%, while its decay branching ratios remain intact. The extra Higgs has relatively small cross sections and the branching ratios of Z′ → l+l− are of order ~ 20% compared to ~ 3% of the SM results.

The experimental knowledge of the charged intermediate vector boson, the W, is reviewed. Measurements of the electroweak properties of the W boson, such as its mass, decay width, couplings to fermions, and leptonic branching ratios, are summarized. As well, I review production properties of the W as measured in [Formula: see text] collisions and how they can be used as tests of perturbative QCD. I also discuss new particle searches that make use of the W signature, such as new charged electroweak bosons and the now-confirmed discovery of the top quark.

The latest top quark studies in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector are reported. We present recent results on the top pair production inclusive cross-sections, top pair production differential cross-section in the resolved and boosted regimes, single top-quark production cross-sections measured in the t-channel, s-channel and W-boson associated processes, as well as the determination of the CKM matrix element [Formula: see text]. The results are compared with theoretical expectations. Latest ATLAS results on top properties will be also shown in terms of direct and pole mass, spin correlations and charge asymmetry.

The isotopic production cross sections for the reactions of 136Xe induced by proton, deuteron and carbon at 168 MeV/u were obtained by using the inverse kinematics technique at RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. The target dependence of the cross sections was investigated systematically. It was found that for the light-mass products, the cross sections on carbon are larger than those on deuteron and proton. The measured cross sections on proton were compared with the previous data at higher reaction energies to study the energy dependence. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical calculations including both the intranuclear cascade and evaporation processes using PHITS and with the EPAX and SPACS empirical parameterizations.

Synthesizing nuclei through reactions that produce a reasonable yield is important for the experimental study of neutron-rich nuclei. In this study, the cross-section values of 184Ta and 186Ta nuclei in various experiments were reviewed and analysed. The experimental data of (n, p), (p, x) and (n, α) reactions were compared to identify the best reaction to produce these nuclei for further study. Our study shows that (n, p) reactions on natural Tungsten targets are the most feasible reactions with a good yield of the neutron-rich Tantalum isotopes. New reactions have been proposed for the effective synthesis of 184Ta and 186Ta using tritium beams on Hafnium targets. The cross-section values of the proposed reactions were calculated by PACE4 software simulations.

The projectile fragment separator type radioactive ion beam (RIB) facilities, being developed in different laboratories, provide the scope for producing many new exotic nuclei through fragmentation of high energy radioactive ion (RI) beams. A new empirical parametrization for the estimation of cross-sections of projectile fragments has been prescribed for studying the advantages and limitations of high energy RI beams for the production of new exotic nuclei. The parametrization reproduces the experimental data for the production of fragments from neutron-rich projectiles accurately in contrast to the existing parametrization which tends to overestimate the cross-section of neutron-rich fragments in most cases. The modified formalism has been used to compute the cross-sections of neutron-rich species produced by fragmentation of radioactive projectiles (RIBs). It has been found that, given any limit of production cross-section, the exoticity of the fragment increases rather slowly and shows a saturation tendency as the projectile is made more and more exotic. This essentially limits, to an extent, the utility of very neutron-rich radioactive beams vis-a-vis production of new neutron-rich exotic species.

We review the resummation of threshold logarithms for heavy quark, dijet, direct photon, and W boson production cross-sections in hadronic collisions. Beyond leading logarithms the resummed cross-section is sensitive to the color exchange in the hard scattering. The resummation is formulated at next-to-leading logarithmic or higher accuracy in terms of anomalous dimension matrices which describe the factorization of soft gluons from the hard scattering. We give results for the soft anomalous dimension matrices at one loop for the full range of partonic subprocesses involved in heavy quark, dijet, direct photon, and W boson production. We discuss the general diagonalization procedure that can be implemented for the calculation of the resummed cross-sections, and we give numerical results for top quark production at the Fermilab Tevatron. We also present analytical results for the one- and two-loop expansions of the resummed cross-sections.

My report consists of two parts: (1). Using samples of 102 million ϒ(1S) and 158 million ϒ(2S) events at Belle, we study 17 exclusive hadronic decays of these two bottomonium resonances to some Vector-Pseudoscalar (VP), Vector-Tensor (VT) and Axial-vector-Pseudoscalar (AP) processes and their final states. Branching fractions are measured for all the processes. The ratios of the branching fractions of ϒ(2S) and ϒ(1S) decays into the same final state are used to test a perturbative QCD (pQCD) prediction for OZI-suppressed bottomonium decays. (2). Using data samples of 89 fb-1, 703 fb-1, and 121 fb-1 collected at center-of-mass (CMS) energies 10.52, 10.58, and 10.876 GeV, respectively, we measure the cross sections of e+e- → ωπ0, [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text]. The energy dependence of the cross sections is presented.
