In this paper, we propose an image-based approach to detect the presence of a vehicle license plate (VLP) in a traffic image. This method is based on the fractal character difference between the VLP region and the other regions. The technique extracts information from fractal feature blocks and computes the dimension zone that describes the difference between the license plate and the other areas in the scene. A new fractal-dimension computing method aimed at gray-image data has been presented and been applied to image segmentation. Three indexes have been defined to measure the performance of the method. The fractal-dimension parameter’s choice and self-adapting adjustment have been discussed in detail. Further, the proposed system has been evaluated using test and verification datasets and has been proven to be robust against common issues of traffic images, such as varying illumination, camera vibration, insensitivity to vehicle plate’s color and location, and high noise levels. Since there is always a large number of fractal characteristic blocks around the same spatial location in traffic video frames, the efficiency of the proposed algorithm for video will be greatly improved.

Considering the fractal characteristic of oilseed cake, the relationship between the permeability and the pore fractal dimension of peanut and sesame cake has been investigated. The microstructures of peanut and sesame cake under five applied pressures are measured by using stereo light microscope and Image-pro image analyzer. Using the box-counting method, the fractal dimensions of pore size distributions are measured. A mathematical model incorporated fractal dimension and permeability has been developed to predicate the permeability of compressed peanut and sesame under cold condition based upon combining Hagen-Poiseulle equation with Darcy’s law for flow of fluid through porous media. There is a prediction of permeability of peanut and sesame cake. Thus, a measurement is carried out for validation. The values of mean relative errors are 19.4% and 11.4 respectively. A fairly good agreement is obtained in the case of high applied pressure. And there exists a tendency that the value of the difference between the theoretical calculation and the permeability measurement decrease significantly with the increase of applied pressure.

SUMMARYThe issue of incorporating the good alleles from two homozygous populations of a cross-fertilizing species into a single improved population was investigated assuming independent assortment, no epistasis, and either complete dominance (of the favourable or the unfavourable alleles) or additive genes. The selection limit in the foundation stock is a function of the effective population size (N), the proportion (x) contributed by the better source population (P1), the difference in relative fitness between single locus homozygotes and the proportion of loci (that will segregate in the foundation stock) fixed favourably in P1. In real life the last two of these are never known. We therefore focused on the response limits given x = 0·5, 0·75, 0·875 or the optimum value of x (which is a function of the other three parameters). Our general finding was that in situations where N is large enough so that a major portion of the potential can be achieved, the F2 population should be used as the foundation stock when the two source populations do not differ greatly in performance; but when one population performs considerably better than the other, the first backcross (but not second backcross) would be the choice.

The heterogeneous texture classifications with the complexity of structures provide variety of possibilities in image processing, as an example of the multifractal analysis features. The task of texture analysis is a highly significant field of study in the field of machine vision. Most of the real-life surfaces exhibit textures and an efficiently modelled vision system must have the ability to deal with this variety of surfaces. A considerable number of surfaces maintain a self-similarity quality as well as statistical roughness at different scales. Fractals could provide a great deal of advantages; also, they are popular in the process of modelling these properties in the tasks related to the field of image processing. With two distinct methods, this paper presents classification of texture using random box counting and binarization methods calculate the estimation measures of the fractal dimension BCM. There methods are the banalization and random selecting boxes. The classification of the white blood cells is presented in this paper based on the texture if it is normal or abnormal with the use of a number of various methods.

Compensation refers to the fact that a group perceived as higher than another on one of the fundamental dimensions of social judgment (competence and warmth) is also perceived as lower than the other group on the other dimension. Relying on a full-crossed design, the present work tested compensation in a real-life situation using existing groups involved in an ongoing relation. As predicted, compensation emerged when (a) the difference between the groups, and thus the perceived legitimacy of the status difference, was large as opposed to small, and (b) the relation between the groups was asymmetrical. In contrast, the smaller the difference (the lesser the legitimacy), the more ingroup bias emerged.

This paper studies the features of the USD/HKD exchange rate process by assessing the conformity of its dynamics to that of a random walk. This is not a trivial task since we consider the period within which the rate is confined to a specified corridor. This is achieved via analysis of its fractal dimension by means of the Hurst exponent as estimated using the rescaled range method. The conformity can be quantified by the difference between the estimated Hurst exponent and the random walk Hurst exponent of ½. At least two distinct Hurst exponents are identified, one corresponding to a random walk while the other, to an anti-persistent process. Partitioning the rate in state space associates the anti-persistence with proximity to the lower boundary of the corridor so the rate can be modeled using a random walk when sufficiently distant from the boundary.

The study of a robotic arm copied with 3D-printer combines computer vision system with tracking algorithm is proposed in the paper. Moreover, the designing to the intelligent vehicle system with the integration of electromechanical for planning to apply it to the operations in various fields is presented too. The main purpose of this work tries to avoid the complicated process with traditional manual adjustment or teaching. It is expected to achieve the purpose that the robotic arm can grab the target automatically, classify the target and place it in the specified area, and even accurately realize the classification through training to distinguish the characteristics of the target. Eventually, the mechanical arm's movement behavior is able to be corrected through a real-time image data feedback control system. In words, with the experiment that the computer vision system is used to assist the robotic arm to detect the color and position of the target. By adding color features for algorithm training as well as through human-machine collaboration, which approves that the proposed algorithm has well known that the accuracy of target tracking definitely depends on both of two parameters include “object locations” and the “illustration direction” of light source. The difference will far from 75.2% to 89.0%.

Individual and collective identities always develop in relation to the other as different, and in this process, the otherness is always subjected to the attempts of cultivation/domestication. In the history of European thought, we can recognize three metaphors which express the impossibility of seeing the other as different: the metaphors of The Leper, The Court Fool and The Noble Savage. They developed on the basis of the relationship between the difference and common rationality, which means that a more inclusive relationship to otherness as a conversational ideal could be formed if we were able shift the emphasis of ethical discourse from the universal concept of autonomy to respect for authenticity and to Levinas’s ethics of “the face of the other”. Such a step requires a radical change of discursive practices of all involved in the educational processes. That is why I propose the principle of observing the face of the other as different in both real-life experience and in expressive images of art, as well as the recognition and acceptance of otherness at the very core of our own identity.

SummaryThe authors previously reported a transient decrease in adhesive platelet count and an enhancement of blood coagulability after administration of a small amount of adrenaline (0.1-1 µg per Kg, i. v.) in man and rabbit. In such circumstances, the sensitivity of platelets to aggregation induced by ADP was studied by an optical density method. Five minutes after i. v. injection of 1 µg per Kg of adrenaline in 10 rabbits, intensity of platelet aggregation increased to 115.1 ± 4.9% (mean ± S. E.) by 10∼5 molar, 121.8 ± 7.8% by 3 × 10-6 molar and 129.4 ± 12.8% of the value before the injection by 10”6 molar ADP. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.01-0.05). The above change was not observed in each group of rabbits injected with saline, 1 µg per Kg of 1-noradrenaline or 0.1 and 10 µg per Kg of adrenaline. Also, it was prevented by oral administration of 10 mg per Kg of phenoxybenzamine or propranolol or aspirin or pyridinolcarbamate 3 hours before the challenge. On the other hand, the enhancement of ADP-induced platelet aggregation was not observed in vitro, when 10-5 or 3 × 10-6 molar and 129.4 ± 12.8% of the value before 10∼6 molar ADP was added to citrated platelet rich plasma (CPRP) of rabbit after incubation at 37°C for 30 second with 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10 or 100 µg per ml of adrenaline or noradrenaline. These results suggest an important interaction between endothelial surface and platelets in connection with the enhancement of ADP-induced platelet aggregation by adrenaline in vivo.

This chapter presents the equations and calculations for energy approximation. It establishes the estimates (261) and (262) of the Main Lemma (10.1) for continuous solutions; these estimates state that we are able to accurately prescribe the energy that the correction adds to the solution, as well as bound the difference between the time derivatives of these two quantities. The chapter also introduces the proposition for prescribing energy, followed by the relevant computations. Each integral contributing to the other term can be estimated. Another proposition for estimating control over the rate of energy variation is given. Finally, the coarse scale material derivative is considered.
