With the purpose of clarifying the energy-saving influencing factors of the participants in the construction project, qualitative analysis and scientific measurement analysis were combined in this paper to define and identify the energy-saving influencing factors of the construction project lifecycle. First, a qualitative analysis of the research literature of the natural science index (SCI) and social science citation index (SSCI) databases was conducted through a combination of literature analysis and expert interviews, constructing a list of the energy-saving influencing factors in the lifecycle of construction projects. Second, the knowledge map of the energy-saving research literature of construction projects in the past 20 years from the Web of Science (WOS) database was drawn through Citespace. Then the hotspots of energy-saving research in international construction projects were identified through keyword co-occurrence map as energy saving, energy efficiency, and energy consumption. The main research subjects were divided into four categories: energy-saving management and incentive policies, project users’ energy-saving behaviors and awareness, various energy-saving new materials and technologies, and energy-saving management and control at the operation and maintenance stage. Next, nine main clusters on energy-saving research were identified through cluster analysis, mainly distributed in various energy-saving technology research, energy-saving behavior and power research of owners and residents, policy and regulation research, and energy-saving management and control research in the operation and maintenance stage. Finally, the knowledge mapping analysis results were classified and defined according to the action scope of each stage of the construction project, and the identification of the energy-saving influencing factors in the construction project lifecycle was completed.

A risk is a predominant problem in the developing countries construction projects. Although numerous studies have been concerned on risk, there is a limited study on a mechanism to identify the typical risks and effects level. This paper presents an approach for evaluating the risks in case of schedule delays at the various lifecycles of construction projects. The methodology applied is an integrated model of the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (FCE). In this study, common criteria, sub-criteria, and attributes are constructed to make a decision concerning the influence level of risk of delay at the construction project lifecycle. The results showed that the construction stage (44%) is highly influenced, the second highly influenced stage is post construction (37%), and the least risked stage is pre-construction (35%). The construction projects in Ethiopia have faced an average delay risk of 38% at a high and very high-risk level. This work is expected to serve as a tool to assist managers in the management and control of schedule delays to mitigate their risks.

Safety is very important aspects of construction projects which are the most hazardous endeavors have many work-related injuries and accidents. Accordingly, safety factors must be considered in project lifecycle from beginning of a project to its end. To improve project safety, the definition of safety factors and determination of their importance are necessary. In some of the previous researches several safety factors are introduced. In this paper, safety factors in construction project are reviewed and categorized as well as an exhaustive classified catalogue of critical safety factors in construction project which don't have unnecessary details is developed. The identification of the critical safety factors which are categorized in four main groups consists of safety approach, safety engineering, safety management and safety on construction site will enable appropriate allocation of limited resources.

Through analyzing the causes of safety accidents in hydraulic construction projects, this article argues that the main direct causes of safety accidents are working against regulation, commanding against regulation and ineffective technical countermeasures. However, the deep reasons are mainly human side factors: people are usually hard to keep absolute consciousness within eight working hours, and generally have such mental inclinations as subjective assuming, trying fortune, energy-saving, rebellion, etc. So, for hydraulic construction project safety management, taking account of human side factors and implementing corresponding countermeasures are fundamental.

Construction is an important industry to determine the development of a country. However, this industry faced delay issues caused by various factors that affect proper construction project. Hence, minimizing delay in construction should be focused on overcoming the delay issue. Thus, the objective of this study is to critically review the main criteria of minimizing delay based on the most significant items that suggested in the previous journals. This paper reviewed 47 journals that studied the issues of delays in construction projects. Through this study, the authors have classified four main criteria for minimizing delays, which are; management, interpersonal, technical and technology. Management ensures the proper manage of time, financial and control system in construction to minimize delay. While, interpersonal promote a good relationship between construction parties, hire of competent and skilled labour and responsibility of the owner to avoiding delay. Besides, technical ensure the quality of project and technology could improve the productivity of construction based on fourth industrial revolution development in the construction field. Thus, this study contributes to construction parties able to focus on elements to overcome the delay issue in they faced and applied the ideas based on the element to minimize delay in the construction project.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the advantages of digital fabrication pertaining to construction project management, in particular, in terms of different project management factors, using case studies of irregular-shaped buildings in which digital fabrication has versatile applications. This study collected secondary data corresponding to 27 construction projects of irregular-shaped buildings that implemented digital fabrication. Success criteria were developed based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) to assess the benefits of implementing digital fabrication for management of the considered construction projects of irregular-shaped buildings. Content analysis was performed to investigate the degree of satisfaction for the success criteria of each project. With this approach, it is possible to see which success criterion appears more times as a positive factor and which ones appear as challenges or problems. Among the positive benefits of digital fabrication on construction project management, quality increase and control appeared in the highest number of projects (17 out of 27 projects) at the highest frequency (26 instances). However, among the negative benefits that were mentioned as challenging or causing difficulties of digital fabrication on construction project management, cost reduction and control appeared in the highest number of projects (14 out of 27 projects) at the highest frequency (21 instances). But it does not mean that the use of digital fabrication was overall negative.

Material inventory management is one part of the logistics system devoted to project implementation on material procurement as per the needs plan procurement management is a very important material function, since the material inventory for a construction project involves a considerable investment cost. In general, every construction project involves complex activities, which involves the sharing of activities and operations. Material acquisition activities require good planning and control considering the large percentage of material costs to the total cost of the project. So if less effective material handling will result in loss of time, cost and quality. then this should receive high attention from contractors for the smooth and performance to be achieved in the implementation of construction projects.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to extract the real requirements of the owner (or users) for the construction project in the operation and maintenance stage completely and accurately and carry out the construction based on the requirements, to make the project status and operation and maintenance requirements (RO&M) consistent after delivered.Design/methodology/approachThis study creatively proposes the operation and maintenance functions deployment (OMFD) under RO&M. In addition, the OPAR (naming is made up of the initials of owners, project, analysis and result) model is constructed to fully identify the requirements of both owners and projects. In this study, three typical construction projects are taken as examples to calculate the correlation strength between project characteristics (PC) and operation and maintenance requirements through the Apriori algorithm, and order parameters are obtained from the cost chain.FindingsThis study found that there are significant differences in the correlation strength between 11 types of RO&M and PC, in which the “cost of types” (TC) correlation of residential housing and factory buildings is the largest, while the largest correlation demand of commercial buildings is “safety of types” (TS) and “system” (S). Simultaneously, through the calculation of order parameters, the most influential factors on project characteristics are obtained.Practical implicationsThis study could effectively help the owner (or users) to check whether the delivered project fully satisfy their real requirements and also extract the key technical points to realize RO&M, which can guide the accurate construction of the same type of projects.Originality/valueThis research establishes OPAR model to accurately identify the requirements of the project in the operation and maintenance stage and establishes the association rules between the requirements and the construction scheme, which is helpful for the project to construct under the expected requirements.
