In today’s knowledge-based advanced world, pioneer organisations emphasise more on knowledge orientation, being leaders in knowledge management (KM) implementation. The purpose of this paper is to identify the key factors influencing the successful implementation of each KM process in Iranian Oil and Gas Industry, specifically about operational projects which are classified based on the McKinsey 7S model as KM enablers, namely, strategy, structure, system, skill, style, staff and shared values. Then the paper assesses the KM maturity level to categorise and prioritise the KM enablers in each level. Moreover, a conceptual model is proposed to theorise the relationship between organisational agility and each KM process, namely, knowledge creation, storage, sharing and utilisation. Data analysis and statistical tests are concluded using structural equation model through the combination of confirmatory factor and path analysis. The results show the validity and fitness of the proposed model and verification of all the hypotheses, i.e. there are positive relationships between each KM process and agility.

The aim of this study was to operationalize and test a conceptual model to measure the effect ofBusiness Process Re-engineering (BPR) implementation on profitability in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.Based on a framework from Al-Mashari and Zairi, these objectives were achieved using the followingprocedures: reliability and validity analysis, factor analyses (exploratory factor analysis-EFA andconfirmatory factor analysis-CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The model contrived thereforeconfirmed the positive influence of BPR on profitability, as well as the mediating influence of operationalperformance in the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry. Specifically, the structural model shows the positive effectof organizational structure and IT Infrastructures on both profitability and operational performance.However, SEM failed to establish the relationship between management competence and support andprofitability. The study is expected to enhance the adoption and successful implementation of BPRprogrammes in the oil and gas industry.

Background: This article contributes to existing literature by examining the relationship between inbound open innovation and firms’ financial performance in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. Aim: This article seeks to identify the factors of inbound open innovation and whether these factors influence the financial performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. Setting: This article examines 150 indigenous oil and gas SMEs in the upstream subsector of the Nigerian petroleum sector through a survey, using a questionnaire, conducted in 2015. Methods: The study applied the structural equation modelling (SEM) method. This method is used to test the relationships between the factors and to calculate the measurement errors in the hypotheses formulated. Results: The results show that technology scouting, vertical technology collaboration (VTC) and horizontal technology collaboration (HTC) positively and significantly contribute to inbound open innovation, which are thus significant in influencing the financial performance of SMEs. The size of technical staff and research and development (R&D) fund allocations also have a positive and significant correlation with the SMEs’ financial performance. Meanwhile, the age of SMEs is negative and not significant in influencing financial performance. Conclusion: The results suggest that inbound open innovation through scouting, HTC and VTC should therefore be encouraged among SMEs to boost their internal capabilities, which have hitherto enhanced their financial performance. The management members of each SME should continually consider collaboration with the external actors because they cannot singularly possess all the innovative skills required in the industry. Also, each firm should commit itself to allocate more funds to R&D and at the same time should hire those who have relevant production skills and train the existing ones in their firms.

The explosive development of the human society in contrast to the limited character of resources determines the need for successful implementation of mathematic models in the decision-making process concerning the use of available resources. The oil industry includes a series of global processes such as mining, extraction, refining, transport (road, rail, ship and pipeline) and oil products. The products of this industry with the highest degree of utilization are gasoline and diesel but the portfolio is much broader, kerosene, bitumen, fuel and raw materials for other chemicals such as solvents, pesticides, fertilizers and materials plastic. The oil industry comprises three major areas: "upstream" extraction; refining - "midstream" and transportation and marketing of downstream products. In most cases refining is considered to be part of downstream, Oil and petroleum products are essential for many industries and their importance is vital in maintaining and developing the industrial area in the current configuration.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between effective knowledge management and corporate performance, to explore the dynamic symbiosis phenomenon of effective knowledge management based on organizational ecology with multinational companies (MNCs) and non-multinational companies (non-MNCs) and to explore the symbiosis strategy of knowledge management between multinational and non-multinational companies (non-MNCs) in China. Design/methodology/approach To measure effective knowledge management, this paper first uses structural equation model to measure knowledge management, based on the evolution dynamics equation in organizational ecology to measure the effectiveness of knowledge management, and studies the symbiosis of effective knowledge management between MNCs and non-MNCs based on ecological perspective. Findings Effective knowledge management can promote the financial performance of enterprises, but different degrees of effectiveness have different effects. In addition, the coupling and collaboration between knowledge management and corporate performance can reflect the value of effective knowledge management. The results show that effective knowledge management plays a positive moderating effect between knowledge management and corporate performance. Finally, the effective knowledge management system of MNCs (non-MNCs) has negative effect on non-MNCs (MNCs), showing the exclusive relationship between MNCs and non-MNCs in China. Research limitations/implications The effectiveness of knowledge management is only based on the measurement of financial performance coupling. For other types of performance, it needs to be tested. The samples may not cover symbiosis relationship of effective knowledge management in other countries. Practical implications This paper provides practical and theoretical reference for confirming the symbiotic interaction and identifying the opportunities and challenges of knowledge management among different types of corporation groups. Originality/value The paper is one of the pioneering studies to explore the pattern of symbiotic evolution of effective knowledge management between MNCs and non-MNCs. From completely new perspectives, this study advances the research of knowledge management to a new and promising area.

Agility is a necessary condition, which is known as the main factor for the success of corporations to compete. In this sense, organisations have to determine their strategic priorities and accordingly develop and implement appropriate strategies in order to preserve their growth and survival. Meanwhile, managers play an important role in the process of strategic planning and making decisions related to their way of thinking. In addition, the existence of competitive intelligence plan for organisations has a striking role to optimally use the existing opportunities and using knowledge management (KM) in the organisation provides a platform to do so. This work aims to study the impact of using knowledge management on organisational agility as a case study in the ceramic and tile industry of the provinces of Yazd and Kerman. The data was collected using questionnaires. The structural equation modelling was used to analyse the research hypotheses using LISREL software. The results of the study showed that knowledge management application has a positive and significant effect on agility through using competitive intelligence and strategic thinking.

PurposeThe study aims to expand the literature on evaluating the performance of professionals and academic libraries, rationalizing management and providing reliable services to the academic community. The performance assessment model covers the four components (management competence, professional experience, financial add/projects and library services) in the context of the knowledge management model.Design/methodology/approachBased on quantitative data, the study defines a set of assumptions for testing the four components of performance evaluation within a knowledge management framework to develop appropriate and robust models for improving employee performance and library services. The structural equation model has been applied to sample data from 339 administrative librarians at 190 universities in Pakistan.FindingsStatistical evidence confirms that the applicability of the proposed performance-based model enhances management competence, makes accurate decisions, develops professional skills and strengthens human resource organization and knowledge management techniques in developing the efficiency of academic libraries.Practical implicationsIn the long term, academic leaders and policymakers value investment in the professional development of top library management as they participate in the decision-making process. Organizing training for service employees, supporting innovative research projects and providing library technology infrastructures ultimately improve academic performance and research when integrated into the knowledge management model.Originality/valueSo far, comprehensive literature on performance and knowledge management has been published separately. However, based on the key data collected by senior library administrators using the structured research questionnaire, the comprehensive performance evaluation research based on a knowledge management model is innovative to improve academic library services and close the literature gap.

The previous research on integrated management systems has varied. Most of them used a structural equation model (SEM) or consisted of a literature review. These studies have not yet presented a relationship between integration management systems at the practical level in order to improve organisational performance. These studies have not included knowledge management in their implementation. Research on knowledge management is needed in order to minimise the inefficiency of an organisation. The level of maturity of knowledge management in construction companies is only about 50% (at the practiced level). The biggest obstacle to the realisation of an integrated management system is a lack of knowledge management. Knowledge management is a key standard in integrated management and sustainability reporting. This study aims to identify the most important variables needed in the context of the development of knowledge management and integrated management systems through RII analysis, including developing a job description through RAM RACI R (Responsible), A (Accountable), C (Consult), and I (Inform).
