Cloud computing is a network model of on-demand access for sharing configurable computing resource pools. Compared with conventional service architectures, cloud computing introduces new security challenges in secure service management and control, privacy protection, data integrity protection in distributed databases, data backup, and synchronization. Blockchain can be leveraged to address these challenges, partly due to the underlying characteristics such as transparency, traceability, decentralization, security, immutability, and automation. We present a comprehensive survey of how blockchain is applied to provide security services in the cloud computing model and we analyze the research trends of blockchain-related techniques in current cloud computing models. During the reviewing, we also briefly investigate how cloud computing can affect blockchain, especially about the performance improvements that cloud computing can provide for the blockchain. Our contributions include the following: (i) summarizing the possible architectures and models of the integration of blockchain and cloud computing and the roles of cloud computing in blockchain; (ii) classifying and discussing recent, relevant works based on different blockchain-based security services in the cloud computing model; (iii) simply investigating what improvements cloud computing can provide for the blockchain; (iv) introducing the current development status of the industry/major cloud providers in the direction of combining cloud and blockchain; (v) analyzing the main barriers and challenges of integrated blockchain and cloud computing systems; and (vi) providing recommendations for future research and improvement on the integration of blockchain and cloud systems.

The dynamic growth in the use of cloud computing systems results in increasing energy consumption. Consequently, more and more attention is given to energy efficiency issues both in research and theory development as well as the business practice of cloud computing systems. In spite of the rapid development of research, the field has not been mapped from the bibliometric perspective yet. This study aims at publication profiling and mapping the thematic structure of the cloud computing energy efficiency research field. Detailed research objectives include: (1) profiling scientific publications in the field, (2) identifying and exploring thematic research areas, (3) identifying emerging topics and discussing their potential as future research lines. The aforementioned objectives are translated into the following study questions: (1) What are the most productive nations, institutions, source titles, and scholars contributing to research on energy efficiency in cloud computing? (2) What does the thematic structure of the research field look like? (3) What are the “hot” research topics attracting scholars’ attention? The research methodology toolbox includes a combination of bibliometric descriptive studies (research profiling), science mapping (keyword co-occurrence analysis), and literature reviews (systematic literature review). Bibliometric data for analysis were elicited from the Scopus database. The VOSviewer software supported bibliometric analysis and data visualization.

AbstractThrough virtualization and resource integration, cloud computing has expanded its service area and offers a better user experience than the traditional platforms, along with its business operation model bringing huge economic and social benefits. However, a large amount of evidence shows that cloud computing is facing with serious security and trust crisis, and building a trust-enabled transaction environment has become its key factor. The traditional cloud trust model usually adopts a centralized architecture, which causes large management overhead, network congestion and even single point of failure. Furthermore, due to a lack of transparency and traceability, trust evaluation results cannot be fully recognized by all participants. Blockchain is a new and promising decentralized framework and distributed computing paradigm. Its unique features in operating rules and traceability of records ensure the integrity, undeniability and security of the transaction data. Therefore, blockchain is very suitable for constructing a distributed and decentralized trust architecture. This paper carries out a comprehensive survey on blockchain-based trust approaches in cloud computing systems. Based on a novel cloud-edge trust management framework and a double-blockchain structure based cloud transaction model, it identifies the open challenges and gives directions for future research in this field.

Ubiquitous Cloud Computing has been recently proposed as a new hybrid computing model. This paradigm has two aspects: (a) Making use of cloud services to realize context-awareness (especially for mobile phones) and (b) Introducing a new and hybrid computing model. Likewise, this paper mainly involves two subjects: To deeply investigate previous cloud services that have been utilized to design context-aware systems, and to propose an open architecture for the “Ubiquitous Cloud Computing” paradigm. The aim of this article is to technically discuss mutual trends of ubiquitous and cloud computing, to foster the dissemination of state-of-the-art research in this area, and to present future research directions.

Cloud computing is currently becoming a well-known buzzword in which business titans, such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, among others, are at the forefront in developing and providing sophisticated cloud computing systems to their users in a cost-effective manner. Security is the biggest concern for cloud computing and is a major obstacle to users adopting cloud computing systems. Maintaining the security of cloud computing is important, especially for the infrastructure. Several research works have been conducted in the cloud infrastructure security area; however, some gaps have not been completely addressed, while new challenges continue to arise. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the security issues at different cloud infrastructure levels (e.g., application, network, host, and data). It investigates the most prominent issues that may affect the cloud computing business model with regard to infrastructure. It further discusses the current solutions proposed in the literature to mitigate the different security issues at each level. To assist in solving the issues, the challenges that are still unsolved are summarized. Based on the exploration of the current challenges, some cloud features such as flexibility, elasticity and the multi-tenancy are found to pose new challenges at each infrastructure level. More specifically, the multi-tenancy is found to have the most impact at all infrastructure levels, as it can lead to several security problems such as unavailability, abuse, data loss and privacy breach. This survey concludes by giving some recommendations for future research.

The smart grid developments turning out to a promising technology for the two way communication of the electricity and the information are becoming more prominent in the present scenario due to the increasing demands in the power requirements. The smart grid utilizing the modern communication and the computing infrastructure makes this possible. This utilization of the modern communication and the computing systems make them even prone to the vulnerabilities, mishandlings and the miscommunications and necessary for a complex frame work for managing of the power distribution and generation to make them sustainable. So the paper proposes the cloud computing for the proper management and the protection of the smart grids to make them more secure against threats and sustainable by reducing the Co2 emission by the perfect management. The validation of the smart grid frame work using cloud computing by monitoring the power distribution, management and the security achieved over multiple usages show the enhanced power management and the security services provided by the cloud for the smart grid.

BACKGROUND The complicated nature of cloud computing encompassing internet-based technologies and service models for delivering IT applications, processing capability, storage, and memory space and some notable features motivate organizations to migrate their core businesses to the cloud. Consequently, healthcare organizations are much interested to migrate to this new paradigm despite challenges about security, privacy and compliances issues. OBJECTIVE The present study was conducted to investigate all related cloud compliances in health domain in order to find gaps in this context. METHODS All works on cloud compliance issues were surveyed after 2013 in health domain in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Digital Library databases. RESULTS Totally, 36 compliances had been found in this domain used in different countries for a variety of purposes. Initially, all founded compliances were divided into three parts as well as five standards, twenty-eight legislations and three policies and guidelines each of which is presented here by in detail. CONCLUSIONS Then, some main headlines like compliance management, data management, data governance, information security services, medical ethics, and patients' rights were recommended in terms of any compliance or frameworks and their corresponding patterns which should be involved in this domain.
