A novel antipodal Vivaldi antenna with tapering serrated structure at the edges is proposed. Compared with traditional Vivaldi antennas without serrated structure, the gain of the designed antenna is significantly improved in the desired frequency band (4.5–7.5 GHz). In addition, a 2 × 2 Vivaldi antenna array with an orthorhombic structure is designed and fabricated to achieve a circular polarization (CP) characteristic. With this configuration, the 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of the array reaches about 42% with respect to the center frequency of 6 GHz and a high gain is achieved as well. The novel Vivaldi antenna and CP antenna array both have ultrawide band (UWB) and high-gain characteristics, which may be applied to the field of commercial communication, remote sensing, and so forth.

This paper proposes a new design of low sidelobe level (SLL) and high gain linear printed Vivaldi antenna array. The array composes of two parts, which are a linear Vivaldi antenna array and a back reflector. The array consists of 10 single Vivaldi antennas and a series-fed network, those are based on Roger RO4003C substrate (ε = 3.55) with the dimension of 140 x 450 x 1.524 mm3. A new Bat algorithm with the amplitude-only control technique has been applied to optimize the output coefficients of the series-fed network for gaining a low SLL. The simulation results indicate that the proposed antenna provides a low SLL of -29.2 dB in E-plane with a high gain of 16.5 dBi at the frequency of 3500 MHz. A prototype of the proposed antenna array has been fabricated. The measured data has a good agreement with the simulated data.

Abstract The article discusses a planar patch antenna with a metamaterial integrated into the structure, which allows the antenna to function in the upper Wi-Fi 5, 6 frequency range and the Wi-Fi 6E range. For the study, we built graphs of S-parameters, radiation patterns; on the basis of the resulting structure, we formed a MIMO antenna array for which we determined the main characteristics - the envelope correlation coefficient and the multiplexing efficiency

In this paper, we investigate the influence of higher permittivity dielectric director on the radiation performances of an antipodal Vivaldi antenna. An elliptical dielectric director with high permittivity is inserted in an antipodal Vivaldi antenna aperture in order to ameliorate the radiation characteristics of the antenna. Due to the capacity of elevated permittivity dielectric to confine and guide energy in the desired direction, an increment of 4[Formula: see text]dB in the gain of the antenna is obtained. This antenna, which covers an ultra-wide frequency band of 146.8% from 2.3[Formula: see text]GHz to 15[Formula: see text]GHz, has approximately regular radiation patterns with reduced side lobe level and narrower beamwidth. In the interest to achieve radar application necessities, the proposed antenna is exploited to develop an antenna array which consists of four connected elements. Adding dielectric directors can significantly enhance the radiations characteristics of the antenna and reduce the mutual coupling inter-elements. So using four elements with dielectric director in the antenna array can achieve the same results obtained with eight elements without directors. This can decrease the used number of elements that form the antenna array.

A novel low radar cross-section (RCS) design method is proposed, and its application on Vivaldi antenna that covers the entire X band is investigated. According to the difference of the current distribution on the radiator when the antenna radiates or scatters, the shape of the metal radiator is modified, so that maximally 19.2 dBsm RCS reduction is achieved which satisfied radiation performance. Simulated and measured results about gain, S11, and RCS are presented. As a result, the effectiveness of the presented low RCS design method is validated.

For an RF system, a high-gain antenna helps to improve the equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of the transmitter and an end-fire antenna array helps to improve the directivity (D) and half power beam width (HP) of the antenna. This work presents a new and simple design method for end-fire antenna array design. The method states that when antenna elements are λ/2 apart, a simple end-fire antenna array could be designed and constructed easily without matching networks between antenna elements. Utilizing Rogers 4350 PCB technology, three 24 GHz high-gain, compact planar two-element end-fire dipole antenna arrays are designed to verify this new design method. The achieved results are three two-element end-fire antennas with gains of 8.8, 9.9 and 9.1 dBi. These antenna arrays are characterized by high gain and simplicity in design. They are also very compact in size, with an area of about 1.9 × 1.7 cm2. The benefit of this work is that a new and simple design for end-fire antenna design is suggested, and three two-element end-fire dipole antenna arrays in planar technology which adopt the design method are presented. A utility model patent was granted for this end-fire dipole array antenna topology, ZL 202022106332.1.

An X-band dual-polarized Vivaldi antenna with high isolation is proposed. The procedure of this antenna design includes the conventional Vivaldi antenna with regular slot edge (RSE), the dual-polarized Vivaldi antenna with two Vivaldi antennas which have different feeding point positions in a cross-shaped form, and the two Vivaldi antennas with a galvanic contact in soldering point. By applying the RSE, it reduced the dimensions of the Vivaldi antenna and improved its radiation performance. The modified antenna is fabricated and measured. The measured results show that S11<-10 dB at the entire X-band for the two Vivaldi antennas. The isolation (S21) between the two feeding ports, which has been improved by applying the different feeding point positions and the galvanic contact in soldering point, is better than 34 dB at X-band. In addition, the cross-polarized discrimination is better than 21 dB for the two Vivaldi antennas, and the measured results also include the gain of two Vivaldi antennas.

In order to increase the gain of an end-fire antenna array and improve its broadband characteristics, techniques using a dielectric lens and defected ground structure have been investigated in this paper. The element of the array was constructed using an antipodal tapered slot, and two pairs of U-slots were symmetrically cut on the edges of the two antipodal fins to obtain better performance regarding impedance and radiation in the wider band. While loading an ellipse dielectric lens onto each element, the direction and gain were enhanced at the higher frequency. Meanwhile, a defected ground structure was added on the ground plane to decline the mutual coupling of adjacent radiation arms. This design method was verified by a four-element array and a four-way Wilkinson power divider was used as a feed network. Finally, a fabricated sample was tested. Experimental results showed the designed array was available.
