To design an efficient and economical timetable for a heavily congested urban rail corridor, a scheduling model is proposed in this paper. The objective of the proposed model is to find the departure time of trains at the start terminal to minimize the system cost, which includes passenger waiting cost and operating cost. To evaluate the performance of the timetable, a simulation model is developed to simulate the detailed movements of passengers and trains with strict constraints of station and train capacities. It assumes that passengers who arrive early will have more chances to access a station and board a train. The accessing and boarding processes of passengers are all based on a first-come-first-serve basis. When a station is full, passengers unable to access must wait outside until the number of waiting passengers at platform falls below a given value. When a train is full, passengers unable to board must wait at the platform for the next train to arrive. Then, based on the simulation results, a two-stage genetic algorithm is introduced to find the best timetable. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and solution method.

The urban rail transit line operating in the express and local train mode can solve the problem of disequilibrium passenger flow and space and meet the rapid arrival demand of long-distance passengers. In this paper, the Logit model is used to analyze the behavior of passengers choosing trains by considering the sensitivity of travel time and travel distance. Then, based on the composition of passenger travel time, an integer programming model for train stop scheme, aimed at minimizing the total passenger travel time, is proposed. Finally, combined with a certain regional rail line in Shenzhen, the plan is solved by genetic algorithm and evaluated through the time benefit, carrying capacity, and energy consumption efficiency. The simulation result shows that although the capacity is reduced by 6 trains, the optimized travel time per person is 10.34 min, and the energy consumption is saved by about 16%, which proves that the proposed model is efficient and feasible.

This paper presents a grid scheduling model to schedule a job on the grid with the objective of ensuring maximum reliability to the job under the current grid state. The model schedules a modular job to those resources that suit the job requirements in terms of resources while offering the most reliable environment. The reliability estimates depict true grid picture and considers the contribution of the computational resources, network links and the application awaiting allocation. The scheduling executes the interactive jobs while considering the looping structure. As scheduling on the grid is an NP hard problem, soft computing tools are often applied. This paper applies Modified Genetic Algorithm (MGA), which is an elitist selection method based on the two threshold values, to improve the solution. The MGA works on the basis of partitioning the current population in three categories: the fittest chromosomes, average fit chromosomes and the ones with worst fitness. The worst are dropped, while the fittest chromosomes of the current generation are mated with the average fit chromosomes of the previous generation to produce off-spring. The simulation results are compared with other similar grid scheduling models to study the performance of the proposed model under various grid conditions.

Power scheduling of the Intelligent Community is an important issue, and it is also an important part of the Smart Grid. With the target of saving and rationally distributing energy, this paper studies the power scheduling problem of the Intelligent Community. Firstly it designs a framework of power scheduling system. Then, based on the framework, it proposes a power balanced scheduling model among users of the Intelligent Community, and uses the classical simplex method and the improved table-working method respectively to solve the model. Simulation results show that the proposed model and the designed methods can realize power balanced scheduling and minimize the loss in the power scheduling process, and therefore make the electrical power fully utilized.

In view of the conflict between the time-variation of urban rail transit passenger demand and the homogeneity of the train timetable, this paper takes into account the interests of both passengers and operators to build an urban rail transit scheduling model to acquire an optimized time-dependent train timetable. Based on the dynamic passenger volumes of origin-destination pairs from the automatic fare collection system, the model focuses on minimizing the total passenger waiting time with constraints on time interval between two consecutive trains, number and capacity of trains available, and load factor of trains. A hybrid algorithm which consists of the main algorithm based on genetic algorithm and the nested algorithm based on train traction calculation and safety distance requirement is designed to solve the model. To justify the effectiveness and the practical value of the proposed model and algorithm, a case of Nanjing Metro Line S1 is illustrated in this paper. The result shows that the optimized train timetable has advantage compared to the original one.

In order to improve train operation planning from the two perspectives of enterprise operating costs and passengers’ travel time, this paper proposes an integrated optimization model of three sub-problems, namely line planning, timetabling and rolling stock allocation for urban railway transit lines based on passengers’ travelling demands and the constraints of the urban rail line. The model features dwelling time at stations, turnaround operations at terminal stations, entering/exiting depot operations and an assignment for passengers’ travelling flow. We propose a solution method based on a metaheuristic method that simulates annealing to generate an optimal solution for the overall problem using MATLAB. Finally, we use the example of Xi’an metro line one to demonstrate the performance of the model.

Modern vehicles are equipped with various sensors, onboard units, and devices such as Application Unit (AU) that support routing and communication. In VANETs, traffic management and Quality of Service (QoS) are the main research dimensions to be considered while designing VANETs architectures. To cope with the issues of QoS faced by the VANETs, we design an efficient SDN-based architecture where we focus on the QoS of VANETs. In this paper, QoS is achieved by a priority-based scheduling algorithm in which we prioritize traffic flow messages in the safety queue and non-safety queue. In the safety queue, the messages are prioritized based on deadline and size using the New Deadline and Size of data method (NDS) with constrained location and deadline. In contrast, the non-safety queue is prioritized based on First Come First Serve (FCFS) method. For the simulation of our proposed scheduling algorithm, we use a well-known cloud computing framework CloudSim toolkit. The simulation results of safety messages show better performance than non-safety messages in terms of execution time.

This paper studies resource reservation mechanisms in the strict parallel computing grid,and proposed to support the parallel strict resource reservation request scheduling model and algorithms, FCFS and EASY backfill analysis of two important parallel scheduling algorithm, given four parallel scheduling algorithms supporting resource reservation. Simulation results of four algorithms of resource utilization, job bounded slowdown factor and the success rate of Advanced Reservation (AR) jobs were studied. The results show that the EASY backfill + firstfit algorithm can ensure QoS of AR jobs while taking into account the performance of good non-AR jobs.

With the development of integrated energy systems (IES), the traditional demand response technologies for single energy that do not take customer satisfaction into account have been unable to meet actual needs. Therefore, it is urgent to study the integrated demand response (IDR) technology for integrated energy, which considers consumers’ willingness to participate in IDR. This paper proposes an energy management optimization method for community IES based on user dominated demand side response (UDDSR). Firstly, the responsive power loads and thermal loads are modeled, and aggregated using UDDSR bidding optimization. Next, the community IES is modeled and an aggregated building thermal model is introduced to measure the temperature requirements of the entire community of users for heating. Then, a day-ahead scheduling model is proposed to realize the energy management optimization. Finally, a penalty mechanism is introduced to punish the participants causing imbalance response against the day-ahead IDR bids, and the conditional value-at-risk (CVaR) theory is introduced to enhance the robustness of the scheduling model under different prediction accuracies. The case study demonstrates that the proposed method can reduce the operating cost of the community under the premise of fully considering users’ willingness, and can complete the IDR request initiated by the power grid operator or the dispatching department.

Silicon wafers are the most widely used substrates for fabricating integrated circuits. A sequence of processes is needed to turn a silicon ingot into silicon wafers. One of the processes is flattening by lapping or by grinding to achieve a high degree of flatness and parallelism of the wafer [1, 2, 3]. Lapping can effectively remove or reduce the waviness induced by preceding operations [2, 4]. The main aim of this paper is to compare the simulation results with lapping experimental data obtained from the Polish producer of silicon wafers, the company Cemat Silicon from Warsaw (www.cematsil.com). Proposed model is going to be implemented by this company for the tool wear prediction. Proposed model can be applied for lapping or grinding with single or double-disc lapping kinematics [5, 6, 7]. Geometrical and kinematical relations with the simulations are presented in the work. Generated results for given workpiece diameter and for different kinematical parameters are studied using models programmed in the Matlab environment.

Current cobalt processing practices are described. This article discusses the advantages of the group argument accounting method for mathematical modeling of the leaching process of cobalt solutions. Identification of the mathematical model of the cascade of reactors of cobalt-producing is presented. Group method of data handling is allowing: to eliminate the need to calculate quantities of chemical kinetics; to get the opportunity to take into account the results of mixed experiments; to exclude the influence of random interference on the simulation results. The proposed model confirms the capabilities of the group method of data handling for describing multistage processes.
