The cave dwelling, as one of the most typical and traditional characteristic local housing styles in the loess area of Northwest China, has been adopted widely in many areas since ancient times. The construction of the cave dwellings supports environmental protection, makes use of innovative construction technology, and preserves historical cultural heritage. The cave dwellings have practical significance and play an important role in the current society. Although there are many natural advantages to use cave dwellings, they also pose many problems, such as high moisture, inadequate lighting, poor ventilation, insufficient strength, and so on. The most serious problem is related to moisture, which affects the comfort, security, and safety of the residents; it needs to be addressed. The authors propose to resolve this problem by developing a method of building a damp-proof course in the bottom of these cave dwellings. Meanwhile, specified experiments were carried out to validate the feasibility of this method. The results show that the method is reasonable and practical, and it can be implemented easily and conveniently in the future. This research has significant practical value; the results can improve people’s living environment and increase comfort and safety of cave dwelling.

AbstractClimate change is borderless, and its impacts are not shared equally by all communities. It causes an imbalance between people by creating a more desirable living environment for some societies while erasing settlements and shelters of some others. Due to floods, sea level rise, destructive storms, drought, and slow-onset factors such as salinization of water and soil, people lose their lands, homes, and natural resources. Catastrophic events force people to move voluntarily or involuntarily. The relocation of communities is a debatable climate adaptation measure which requires utmost care with human rights, ethics, and psychological well-being of individuals upon the issues of discrimination, conflict, and security. As the number of climate-displaced populations grows, the generations-deep connection to their rituals, customs, and ancestral ties with the land, cultural practices, and intangible cultural heritage become endangered. However, intangible heritage is often overlooked in the context of climate displacement. This paper presents reflections based on observations regarding the intangible heritage of voluntarily displaced communities. It begins by examining intangible heritage under the threat of climate displacement, with place-based examples. It then reveals intangible heritage as a catalyst to building resilient communities by advocating for the cultural values of indigenous and all people in climate action planning. It concludes the discussion by presenting the implications of climate displacement in existing intangible heritage initiatives. This article seeks to contribute to the emerging policies of preserving intangible heritage in the context of climate displacement.

With the continuous improvement of bridge construction technology in our country, although the service life of the bridge has been greatly extended, the mechanical connection technology of steel bar in the technology is still in the stage of steel bar straight thread connection, which is nearly 30 years behind that of foreign countries. According to the development status and application requirements of bridge construction in China, it is of great practical significance to explore new technologies and methods to solve the problem of insufficient strength of straight thread connection of reinforcement. In this paper, the reliability of the straight thread reinforcement connection in the bridge foundation reinforcement cage connection technology is studied as the main breakthrough point, and the main problems encountered in the application of the straight thread reinforcement connection technology in the bridge reinforcement cage connection are analyzed.

With the development of urbanization and the continuous development, construction and renewal of the city, the living environment of human beings has also undergone tremendous changes, such as residential community environment and service facilities, urban roads and street spaces, and urban public service formats. And the layout of the facilities, etc., and these are the real needs of people in urban life, but the characteristics of these needs or their problems will inevitably have a certain impact on the user's psychological feelings, thus affecting people's use needs. Then, studying the ways in which urban residents perceive changes in the living environment and how they perceive changes in psychology and emotions will have practical significance and can effectively assist urban management and builders to optimize the living environment of residents. This is also the long-term. One of the topics of greatest interest to urban researchers since then. In the theory of demand hierarchy proposed by American psychologist Abraham Maslow, safety is the basic requirement second only to physiological needs. So safety, especially psychological security, has become one of the basic needs of people in the urban environment. People's perception of the psychological security of the urban environment is also one of the most important indicators in urban environmental assessment. In the past, due to the influence of technical means, the study of urban environmental psychological security often relied on the limited investigation of a small number of respondents. Low-density data is difficult to measure the perceptual results of universality. With the leaping development of the mobile Internet, Internet image data has grown geometrically over time. And with the development of artificial intelligence technology in recent years, image recognition and perception analysis based on machine learning has become possible. The maturity of these technical conditions provides a basis for the study of the urban renewal index evaluation system based on psychological security. In addition to the existing urban visual street furniture data obtained through urban big data collection combined with artificial intelligence image analysis, this paper also proposes a large number of urban living environment psychological assessment data collection strategies. These data are derived from crowdsourcing, and the collection method is limited by the development of cost and technology. At present, the psychological security preference of a large number of users on urban street images is collected by forced selection method, and then obtained by statistical data fitting to obtain urban environmental psychology. Security sense training set. In the future, when the conditions are mature, the brainwave feedback data in the virtual reality scene can be used to carry out the machine learning of psychological security, so as to improve the accuracy of the psychological security data.

Traditional Thai house architecture is a significant part the Thai culture and heritage. One unique attribute of traditional Thai house construction is the modular, pre-fabricated wood components, with non-permanent connections. This allows the house to be dissembled and reassembled in a new location without damage. This is a case study of Thai-style houses built and owned by six generations of the Usiri family. Their houses have been passed down from the first to subsequent generations. From only two Thai-style houses 130 years ago, there are now eleven houses as part of an expanding cultural inheritance. © 2016. The Authors. Abstract When the operation benefit of an oil and gas pipeline is not enough to cover its operation cost, and the pipeline is no alternative use, seriously damaged, aged or the operation risk exceeds the acceptable range, it is bound to cause serious safety and environmental hazards along the pipeline, especially for the over age pipeline in service, therefore its scientific abandonment and reasonable disposal is particularly important and urgent. Focused on the methods for judging abandonment, retirement modes, cleaning and environmental management of oil and gas pipelines, the characteristics of existing methods for predicting the remaining life of the pipelines and their application in abandonment and disposal are compared and analyzed, and the basis and adaptability of oil and gas pipelines retirement are illuminated. According to the actual situation and environment of the discarded pipelines, the selection basis and applicable conditions of the pipeline and facility disposal methods such as demolition, in-situ shelving and their combination are expounded. It is found that North America has rich experience and mature technology in oil and gas pipeline abandonment and disposal, but many countries, including China, seriously lack scientific and systematic evaluation standards, practical experience, related theoretical and technical investigations. This study has important reference and practical significance for promoting the development of abandonment and disposal technology of an aging oil and gas pipeline, and ensuring the personal safety and ecological environmental protection along the abandoned pipeline. This paper presents the status quo of over age service and abandonment decision-making of oil and gas pipelines in the world, draws lessons from the experience of safety and environmental protection disposal of the global abandoned pipelines, and puts forward the principle and method of abandonment judgment and scientific disposal of the aging pipelines based on residual life evaluation. This method has sufficient basis, strong adaptability and wide application.

Since ancient times and for hundreds of years, grain mills, hammers, sawmills, spinning mills, and hemp rollers have been powered by water wheels. In the nineteenth century there were hundreds of thousands of mills in all of Europe. It is an enormous historical and cultural heritage of inestimable value, which is for the most part, abandoned today. Recently, there is a renewed interest in their reuse, both for their widespread diffusion in the territory and for the excellent environmental integration and intrinsic sustainability. Even when, for economic reasons, their recovery for the original tasks is not suitable, the conversion into mini plants for the production of electricity can be advantageous. In the paper, analyzing some typical examples of the old water mill of the Piemonte region, in North-West of Italy, the mechanical architecture of old water mill, from water wheels to millstones, is described and the functional details of various mechanisms are provided. In fact, by knowing only the specifics of the ancient mills, it is possible to enhance their potential and restore them from the perspective of a renewed high quality production, or reconvert them in mini-plants for the production of electricity.
