Opinion natural reversals are important and common phenomena in network management. It is a naturally emerging process of opinions characterized by interactions between individuals and the evolution of attitudes themselves. To explore the underlying mechanism of this social phenomenon and to reveal its dynamic traits, we propose here a novel model which takes the effects of natural reversal parameter and opinion interaction on the individual’s view choice behavior into account based on the Hegselmann and Krause (HK) bounded confidence model. Experimental results show that the evolution of individual opinions is not only influenced by the interactions between neighboring individuals but also updated naturally due to individual factors themselves in the absence of interaction, which in turn proves that the proposed model can provide a reasonable description of the entire process of public opinion natural reversal under the Internet environment. Besides, the proportion of group opinion tendency, network topology, identification method, and the influence weight of opinion leader will play significant roles in this process, which further indicates our improved model is very robust and thus can provide some insightful evidence to understand the phenomena of opinion natural reversal.

Seeking truth is an important objective of agents in social groups. Opinion leaders in social groups may help or hinder the other agents on seeking the truth by symmetric nature. This paper studies the impact of opinion leaders by considering four characteristics of opinion leaders—reputation, stubbornness, appeal, and extremeness—on the truth-seeking behavior of agents based on a bounded confidence model. Simulations show that increasing the appeal of the leader whose opinion is opposite to the truth has a straightforward impact, i.e., it normally prevents the agents from finding the truth. On the other hand, it also makes the agents who start out close to the truth move away from the truth by increasing the group bound of confidence, if there is an opinion leader opposite to the truth. The results demonstrate that the opinion of the leader is important in affecting the normal agents to reach the truth. Furthermore, for some cases, small variations of the parameters defining the agents’ characteristics can lead to large scale changes in the social group.

Nowadays, software developers are facing challenges in minimizing the number of defects during the software development. Using defect density parameter, developers can identify the possibilities of improvements in the product. Since the total number of defects depends on module size, so there is need to calculate the optimal size of the module to minimize the defect density. In this paper, an improved model has been formulated that indicates the relationship between defect density and variable size of modules. This relationship could be used for optimization of overall defect density using an effective distribution of modules sizes. Three available data sets related to concern aspect have been examined with the proposed model by taking the distinct values of variables and parameter by putting some constraint on parameters. Curve fitting method has been used to obtain the size of module with minimum defect density. Goodness of fit measures has been performed to validate the proposed model for data sets. The defect density can be optimized by effective distribution of size of modules. The larger modules can be broken into smaller modules and smaller modules can be merged to minimize the overall defect density.

This article presents a novel model for the equivalent circuit of a photovoltaic module. This circuit consists of the following important parameters: a single diode, series resistance (Rs) and parallel resistance (Rp) that can be directly adjusted according to ambient temperature and the irradiance. The single diode in the circuit is directly related to the ideality factor (m), which represents the relationship between the materials and significant structures of PV module such as mono crystalline, multi crystalline and thin film technology.  Especially, the proposed model in this article is to present the simplified model that can calculate the results of I-V curves faster and more accurate than other methods of the previous models. This can show that the proposed models are more suitable for the practical application. In addition, the results of the proposed model are validated by the datasheet, the practical data in the laboratory (indoor test) and the onsite data (outdoor test). This ensures that the less than 0.1% absolute errors of the model can be accepted.

Randomized pretest, posttest, follow-up (RPPF) designs are often used for evaluating the effectiveness of an intervention. These designs typically address two primary research questions: (1) Do the treatment and control groups differ in the amount of change from pretest to posttest? and (2) Do the treatment and control groups differ in the amount of change from posttest to follow-up? This study presents a model for answering these questions and compares it to recently proposed models for analyzing RPPF designs due to Mun, von Eye, and White (2009) using Monte Carlo simulation. The proposed model provides increased power over previous models for evaluating group differences in RPPF designs.

Neural network methods have been trained to satisfactorily learn user/product representations from textual reviews. A representation can be considered as a multiaspect attention weight vector. However, in several existing methods, it is assumed that the user representation remains unchanged even when the user interacts with products having diverse characteristics, which leads to inaccurate recommendations. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a novel model to capture the varying attention of a user for different products by using a multilayer attention framework. First, two individual hierarchical attention networks are used to encode the users and products to learn the user preferences and product characteristics from review texts. Then, we design an attention network to reflect the adaptive change in the user preferences for each aspect of the targeted product in terms of the rating and review. The results of experiments performed on three public datasets demonstrate that the proposed model notably outperforms the other state-of-the-art baselines, thereby validating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Ion-channel functions are often studied by the current-voltage relation, which is commonly fitted by the Boltzmann equation, a powerful model widely used nowadays. However, the Boltzmann model is restricted to a two-state ion-permeation process. Here we present an improved model that comprises a flexible number of states and incorporates both the single-channel conductance and the open-channel probability. Employing the channel properties derived from the single-channel recording experiments, the proposed model is able to describe various current-voltage relations, especially the reversal ion-permeation curves showing the inward- and outward-rectifications. We demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model using the published patch-clamp data of BK and MthK potassium channels, and discuss the similarity of the two channels based on the model studies.

Trading in the stock market always comes with the challenge of deciding the best action to take on each time step. The problem is intensified by the theory that it is not possible to predict stock market time series as all information related to the stock price is already contained in it. In this work we propose a novel model called Discrete Wavelet Transform Gated Recurrent Unit Network (DWT-GRU). The model learns from the data to choose between buying, holding and selling, and when to execute them. The proposed model was compared to other recurrent neural networks, with and without wavelets preprocessing, and the buy and hold strategy. The results shown that the DWT-GRU outperformed all the set baselines in the analysed stocks of the Brazilian stock market.

An improved mathematical model is proposed for predicting clamp load loss due gasket creep relaxation in bolted joints, taking into consideration gasket behavior, bolt stiffness, and joint stiffness. The gasket creep relaxation behavior is represented by a number of parameters which has been obtained experimentally in a previous work. An experimental procedure is developed to verify the proposed model using a single-bolt joint. The bolt is tightened to a target preload and the clamp load loss due to gasket creep relaxation is observed over time under various preload levels. The experimental and analytical results are presented and discussed. The proposed model provides a prediction of the residual clamp load as a function of time, gasket material and thickness, bolt stiffness, and joint stiffness. The improved model can be used to simulate the behavior of creep relaxation in soft joints as the joint stiffness effect is considered. Additionally, a closed form solution is formulated to determine the initial clamp load level necessary to provide the desired level of a steady state residual clamp load in the joint, by taking the gasket creep relaxation into account.
