In recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been considered one of the important topics for researchers due to their wide applications in our life. Several researches have been conducted to improve WSNs performance and solve their issues. One of these issues is the energy limitation in WSNs since the source of energy in most WSNs is the battery. Accordingly, various protocols and techniques have been proposed with the intention of reducing power consumption of WSNs and lengthen their lifetime. Cluster-oriented routing protocols are one of the most effective categories of these protocols. In this article, we consider a major issue affecting the performance of this category of protocols, which we call the intra/inter-cluster event-reporting problem (IICERP). We demonstrate that IICERP severely reduces the performance of a cluster-oriented routing protocol, so we suggest an effective Solution for IICERP (SIICERP). To assess SIICERP’s performance, comprehensive simulations were performed to demonstrate the performance of several cluster-oriented protocols without and with SIICERP. Simulation results revealed that SIICERP substantially increases the performance of cluster-oriented routing protocols.

Wireless Sensor Networks, have witnessed significant amount of improvement in research across various areas like Routing, Security, Localization, Deployment and above all Energy Efficiency. Congestion is a problem of importance in resource constrained Wireless Sensor Networks, especially for large networks, where the traffic loads exceed the available capacity of the resources . Sensor nodes are prone to failure and the misbehaviour of these faulty nodes creates further congestion. The resulting effect is a degradation in network performance, additional computation and increased energy consumption, which in turn decreases network lifetime. Hence, the data packet routing algorithm should consider congestion as one of the parameters, in addition to the role of the faulty nodes and not merely energy efficient protocols .Nowadays, the main central point of attraction is the concept of Swarm Intelligence based techniques integration in WSN. Swarm Intelligence based Computational Swarm Intelligence Techniques have improvised WSN in terms of efficiency, Performance, robustness and scalability. The main objective of this research paper is to propose congestion aware , energy efficient, routing approach that utilizes Ant Colony Optimization, in which faulty nodes are isolated by means of the concept of trust further we compare the performance of various existing routing protocols like AODV, DSDV and DSR routing protocols, ACO Based Routing Protocol with Trust Based Congestion aware ACO Based Routing in terms of End to End Delay, Packet Delivery Rate, Routing Overhead, Throughput and Energy Efficiency. Simulation based results and data analysis shows that overall TBC-ACO is 150% more efficient in terms of overall performance as compared to other existing routing protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks.

In order to reduce the average path length of the wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and save the energy, in this paper, the concept of the small world is introduced into the routing designs of WSNs. So a new small world routing protocol (SWRP) is proposed. By adding a few short cut links, which are confined to a fraction of the network diameter, we construct a small world network. Then the protocol finds paths through recurrent propagations of weak and strong links. The simulation results indicate that SWRP reduces the energy consumption effectively and the average delay of the data transmission, which leads to prolong the lifetime of both the nodes and the network.

Due to the energy limitation in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), most researches related to data collection in WSNs focus on how to collect the maximum amount of data from the network with minimizing the energy consumption as much as possible. Many types of research that are related to data collection are proposed to overcome this issue by using mobility with path constrained as Maximum Amount Shortest Path routing Protocol (MASP) and zone-based algorithms. Recently, Zone-based Energy-Aware Data Collection Protocol (ZEAL) and Enhanced ZEAL have been presented to reduce energy consumption and provide an acceptable data delivery rate. However, the time spent on data collection operations should be taken into account, especially concerning real-time systems, as time is the most critical factor for these systems' performance. In this paper, a routing protocol is proposed to improve the time needed for the data collection process considering less energy consumption. The presented protocol uses a novel path with a communication time-slot assignment algorithm to reduce the count of cycles that are needed for the data collection process with reduction of 50% of the number of cycles needed for other protocols. Therefore, the time and energy needed for data collection are reduced by approximately 25%and 6% respectively, which prolongs the network lifetime. The proposed protocol is called Energy-Time Aware Data Collection Protocol (ETCL).

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) can extant the individual profits and suppleness with regard to low-power and economical quick deployment for numerous applications. WSNs are widely utilized in medical health care, environmental monitoring, emergencies and remote control areas. Introducing of mobile nodes in clusters is a traditional approach, to assemble the data from sensor nodes and forward to the Base station. Energy efficiency and lifetime improvements are key research areas from past few decades. In this research, to solve the energy limitation to upsurge the network lifetime, Energy efficient trust node based routing protocol is proposed. An experimental validation of framework is focused on Packet Delivery Ratio, network lifetime, throughput, energy consumption and network loss among all other challenges. This protocol assigns some high energy nodes as trusted nodes, and it decides the mobility of data collector. The energy of mobile nodes, and sensor nodes can save up to a great extent by collecting data from trusted nodes based on their trustworthiness and energy efficiency. The simulation outcome of our evaluation shows an improvement in all these parameters than existing clustering and Routing algorithms.

Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) comprise sensor nodes which find applications in a wide variety of fields such as medical, wildlife, security, environment, industry. A network communication is initialized and accomplished with the aid of routing protocols. A routing protocol is a set of rules which govern the routing phenomenon. WSNs protocols for the purpose of routing have been the ubiquitous option of the researchers in the recent years due to their exorbitant scope of improvement. The objective of a routing protocol is to inquest for a relevant route amidst sender and receiver to accomplish successful transmission at the destination .Dissipation of energy and lengthening the duration of the network have always been one of the major points of research gaps. As the nodes in WSNs in are battery operated, so they can only use restricted energy to proceed with the communication and transmission operation. To cope up with this, a number of researchers have come up with developments in the field of energy efficacy and optimizations in WSNs routing protocols. A reify summarization of some protocols for routing purposes has been manifested in this paper.

Energy of nodes is an important factor that affects the performance of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), especially in the case of existing selfish nodes, which attracted many researchers’ attention recently. In this paper, we present a reputation-based uneven clustering routing protocol (R-bUCRP) considering both energy saving and reputation assessment. In the cluster establishment phase, we adopt an uneven clustering mechanism which controls the competitive scope of cluster head candidates to save the energy of WSNs. In the cluster heads election phase, the residual energy and reputation value are used as the indexes to select the optimal cluster head, where the reputation mechanism is introduced to support reputation assessment. Simulation results show that the proposed R-bUCRP can save node energy consumption, balance network energy distribution, and prolong network lifetime.

The specific characteristic of underwater environment introduces new challenges for the networking protocols. Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSN) and terrestrial Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) share some common properties but their differences necessitate specialized new protocols for successful underwater communication. In this paper, a specialized protocol, known as Directional Flooding Routing Protocol is being chosen as the protocol to implement the routing mechanism for underwater sensor networks (UWSNs). The protocol is analyzed and evaluated. Simulation experiments have been carried out to find the suitability of various protocols for the sub aquatic transmission medium, whether in freshwater or seawater. The goal of this paper is to produce simulation results that would illustrate the performances of the protocol for a given metric such as end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and energy consumption. By analyzing the simulation results, DFR is considerably reliable for UWSN because this protocol is suitable for the sub aquatic transmission medium such as seawater.

In recent era of IoT, energy ingesting by sensor nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is one of the key challenges. It is decisive to diminish energy ingesting due to restricted battery lifespan of sensor nodes, Objective of this research is to develop efficient routing protocol/algorithm in IoT based scenario to enhance network performance with QoS parameters. Therefore, keeping this objective in mind, a QoS based Optimized Energy Clustering Routing (QOECR) protocol for IoT based WSN is proposed and evaluated. QOECR discovers optimal path for sink node and provides better selection for sub-sink nodes. Simulation has been done in MATLAB to assess the performance of QOECR with pre-existing routing protocols. Simulation outcomes represent that QOECR reduces E2E delay 30%-35%, enhances throughput 25%-30%, minimizes energy consumption 35%-40%, minimizes packet loss 28%-32%, improves PDR and prolongs network lifetime 32%-38% than CBCCP, HCSM and ZEAL routing protocols.
