<p>This study has outlined the fiber bragg grating (FBG) temperature sensors signal processing for data communications by using OptiGrating simulation software. The reflectivity of the silica and sapphire fiber grating spectrum is reported against the grating wavelength for internal and external temperature variations. As well as apodized Gaussian reflectivity of the silica and sapphire fiber grating spectrum is simulated and clarified against the grating wavelength for high temperature variations. The temperature sensitivity of sapphire FBG nearly 0.11 pm/0C, where its value is three times higher than silica FBG. It is observed that silica and Sapphire FBG sensors were tested up to 1000 0C by using Gaussian apodization type, side lobes in reflectivity spectrum are totally suppressed.</p>

Data simulation is an important auxiliary method for baseband signal processing algorithm design of digital IF GNSS receiver. Especially when the high sensitivity and high dynamic receivers are developed, or multipath and cross correlation mitigation techniques are considered, exact and complete tests under all kinds of necessary scenes can be carried out with the IF signal data which is generated by software simulation method. With this method, the developing efficiency can be improved and the cost can be cut down. In this paper, precise model of the IF signal is given firstly through analyzing GNSS receivers RF processing flow. Then, considering the discrete characteristic of software processing, the IF signal simulation flow and block of the simulation software are designed. Finally, the specific design process is given through a design example. When the IF signal simulation software is used for testing baseband signal processing algorithms, GNSS receivers IF signal data under every necessary test scene can be generated just by parameter adjustment.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a hybrid grating, in which an excessively tilted fiber grating (Ex-TFG) and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) were co-inscribed in a reduced-diameter fiber (RDF). The hybrid grating showed strong resonances due to coupling among core mode and a set of polarization-dependent cladding modes. This coupling showed enhanced evanescent fields by the reduced cladding size, thus allowing stronger interaction with the surrounding medium. Moreover, the FBG’s Bragg resonance confined by the thick cladding was exempt from the change of the surrounding medium’s refractive index (RI), and then the FBG can work as a temperature compensator. As a result, the Ex-TFG in RDF promised a highly sensitive RI measurement, with a sensitivity up to ~1224 nm/RIU near the RI of 1.38. Through simultaneous measurement of temperature and RI, the temperature dependence of water’s RI is then determined. Therefore, the proposed hybrid grating with a spectrum of multi-peaks embedded with a sharp Bragg resonance is a promising alternative for the simultaneous measurement of multi-parameters for many RI-based sensing applications.

In order to increase the multiplying density of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors, a novel FBG Sensing System based on CDMA technology has been developed. Simulation experiment indicates the CDMA technology combine with optical fiber grating sensing system together successfully. Furthermore, the system can distinguishes the FBG and enhance the FBG network band utilization.

AbstractSounding of nonprecipitating clouds with the 10-cm wavelength Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) is discussed. Readily available enhancements to signal processing and volume coverage patterns of the WSR-88D allow observations of a variety of clouds with reflectivities as low as −25 dBZ (at a range of 10 km). The high sensitivity of the WSR-88D, its wide velocity and unambiguous range intervals, and the absence of attenuation allow accurate measurements of the reflectivity factor, Doppler velocity, and spectrum width fields in clouds to ranges of about 50 km. Fields of polarimetric variables in clouds, observed with a research polarimetric WSR-88D, demonstrate an abundance of information and help to resolve Bragg and particulate scatter. The scanning, Doppler, and polarimetric capabilities of the WSR-88D allow real-time, three-dimensional mapping of cloud processes, such as transformations of hydrometeors between liquid and ice phases. The presence of ice particles is revealed by high differential reflectivities and the lack of correlation between reflectivity and differential reflectivity in clouds in contrast to that found for rain. Pockets of high differential reflectivities are frequently observed in clouds; maximal values of differential reflectivity exceed 8 dB, far above the level observed in rain. The establishment of the WSR-88D network consisting of 157 polarimetric radars can be used to collect cloud data at any radar site, making the network a potentially powerful tool for climatic studies.
