In this paper, we consider one-way relay with energy harvesting system based on power beacon (PB), in which the relay node harvests transmitted power from the PB station to forward signals to destination. We also analyse the relay network model with amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol for information cooperation and Power Splitting-based Relaying (PSR) protocol for power transfer. In particular, the outage probability and optimal energy harvesting (EH) power splitting fraction of novel scheme in are presented. We obtain analytical closed-form expression of optimal energy harvesting (EH) power splitting fraction to minimize the outage probability of system. Using numerical and analytical simulations, the performances of different cases are presented and discussed.

In this paper, the system model of dual-energy harvesting relay network over Rayleigh fading channel and the comparison between Selecting Combining (SC) and Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) technique cases are proposed and investigated. The closed-form expression of the outage probability for the SC case and the integral-form expression of the outage probability for MRC case is derived. Moreover, the influence of the main parameters on the system performance is demonstrated entirely by the Monte Carlo simulation. From the results, we can see that all simulation and analytical results match well with each other.

In this research, we investigate a hybrid time-switching relay (TSR)–power-splitting relay (PSR) alternate energy harvesting (EH) relaying network over the Rician fading channels. For this purpose, the amplify-and-forward (AF) mode is considered for the alternative hybrid time TSR–PSR. The system model consists of one source, one destination and two alternative relays for signal transmission from the source to the destination. In the first step, the exact and asymptotic expressions of the outage probability and the symbol errors ratio (SER) are derived. Then, the influence of all system parameters on the system performance is investigated, and the Monte Carlo simulation verifies all results. Finally, the system performances of TSR–PSR, TSR, and PSR cases are compared in connection with all system parameters.

In this paper, we examine the influence of intercell interference (ICI) on the system outage behavior with important derived results in the proposed model of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) together with the nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) using the amplify-and-forward protocol. We derive the closed-form expression of coverage probability for two NOMA users as a function of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). To fully take into account the effect of ICI, we adopt more practical parameters to evaluate the optimal power splitting coefficient regarding energy harvesting system performance analysis. Furthermore, to consider a more practical scenario, based on the fact that the number of ICI sources can affect wireless powered relays, we investigate the average outage probability by considering impacts of the reasonable number of participating ICI.

A joint resource allocation algorithm to minimize the system outage probability is proposed for a decode-and-forward (DF) two-way relay network with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) under a total power constraint. In this network, the two sources nodes exchange information with the help of a passive relay, which is assumed to help the two source nodes’ communication without consuming its own energy by exploiting an energy-harvesting protocol, the power splitting (PS) protocol. An optimization framework to jointly optimize power allocation (PA) at the source nodes and PS at the relay is developed. Since the formulated joint optimization problem is non-convex, the solution is developed in two steps. First, the conditionally optimal PS ratio at the relay node for a given PA ratio is explored; then, the closed-form of the optimal PA in the sense of minimizing the system outage probability with instantaneous channel state information (CSI) is derived. Analysis shows that the optimal design depends on the channel condition and the rate threshold. Simulation results are obtained to validate the analytical results. Comparison with three existing schemes shows that the proposed optimized scheme has the minimum system outage probability.

This paper investigates an energy-constrained two-way multiplicative amplify-and-forward (AF) relay network, where a practical nonlinear energy harvesting (NLEH) model is equipped at the relay to realize simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). We focus on the design of dynamic power splitting (DPS) strategy, in which the PS ratio is able to adjust itself according to the instantaneous channel state information (CSI). Specifically, we first formulate an optimization problem to maximize the outage throughput, subject to the NLEH. Since this formulated problem is nonconvex and difficult to solve, we further transfer it into an equivalent problem and develop a Dinkelbach iterative method to obtain the corresponding solution. Numerical results are given to verify the quick convergence of the proposed iterative method and show the superior outage throughput of the designed DPS strategy by comparing with two peer strategies designed for the linear energy harvesting (LEH) model.

The outage probability (OP) of dual-hop fixed-gain amplify-and-forward (AF) relay over Rayleigh fading channels is analyzed when the feedback delay, the estimation error and the multiple co-channel interferences (CCI) are all present. A closed-form expression for the OP is derived and validated by Monte Carlo simulations with several scenarios considered, also the impacts of feedback delay, estimation error and CCI have been shown in the numerical results.

In this paper, we introduce a half-duplex (HD) energy harvesting (EH) relay network over the different fading environment with the effect of hardware impairment (HI). The model system was investigated with the amplify-and-forward (AF) and the power splitting (PS) protocols. The system performance analysis in term of the outage probability (OP), achievable throughput (AT), and bit error rate (BER) were demonstrated with the closed-form expressions. In addition, the power splitting (PS) factor was investigated. We verified the analytical analysis by Monte Carlo simulation with all primary parameters. From the results, we can state that the analytical and simulation results match well with each other.

In this paper, we study the throughput and outage probability (OP) of two-way relaying (TWR) communication system with energy harvesting (EH). The system model consists two source nodes and a relay node which operates in full-duplex (FD) mode. The effect of self-interference (SI) due to the FD operation on the system performance is evaluated for both one-way full duplex (OWFD) and two-way full duplex (TWFD) diagrams where the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay node collects energy harvesting with the time switching (TS) scheme. We first propose an individual OP expression for each specific source. Then, we derive the exact closed-form overall OP expression for the OWFD diagram. For the TWFD diagram, we propose an approximate closed-form expression for the overall OP. The overall OP comparison among hybrid systems (Two-Way Half-Duplex (TWHD), OWFD, TWFD) are also discussed. Finally, the numerical/simulated results are presented for Rayleigh fading channels to demonstrate the correction of the proposed analysis.

In recent years, harvesting energy from radio frequency (RF) signals has drawn significant research interest as a promising solution to solve the energy problem. In this paper, we analyze the effect of the interference noise on the wireless energy harvesting performance of a decode-and-forward (DF) relaying network. In this analysis, the energy and information are transferred from the source to the relay nodes in the delay-limited transmission and Delay-tolerant transmission modes by two methods: i) time switching protocol and ii) power splitting protocol. Firstly, due to the constraint of the wireless energy harvesting at the relay node, the analytical mathematical expressions of the achievable throughput, outage probability and ergodic capacity of both schemes were proposed and demonstrated. After that, the effect of various system parameters on the system performance is rigorously studied with closed-form expressions for system throughput, outage probability, and ergodic capacity. Finally, the analytical results are also demonstrated by Monte-Carlo simulation. The results show that the analytical mathematical and simulated results agree with each other. This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

We investigate secure communications in untrusted energy harvesting relay networks, where the amplify-and-forward relay is an energy constrained node powered by the received radio frequency signals, and try to unauthorizedly decode the confidential information from the source. The secrecy outage probability and connection outage probability are respectively derived in closed-form to evaluate the security and reliability for three energy harvesting strategies, for example, time switching relaying strategy, power splitting relaying strategy, and ideal relaying receiver strategy. Subsequently, the effective secrecy throughput is conducted to characterize the overall efficiency, and the asymptotic analysis of the secrecy throughput is given to determine the optimal energy harvesting strategies in different operating regimes. Furthermore, in order to achieve the optimal effective secrecy throughput performance, a switching threshold between time switching relaying and power splitting relaying is designed. Numerical results verify the accuracy of the analytical expressions and reveal that the effective secrecy throughput of the system can be effectively promoted by the threshold switching energy harvesting strategy.
