In experiments on rats with modulated hypothyroidism, acute galactosamine hepatitis, acute hepatitis combined
with merkazolil-induced hypothyroidism the changes in the indices of free-radical oxidation in blood and liver
homogenate were studied. Results of the investigation indicate a pronounced increase of lipid peroxidation products,
both in blood and in liver homogenate against the backdrop of exhaustion of the enzymatic and non-enzymatic links
antioxidant protection system in animals with hypothyroidism. In case of acute galactosamine hepatitis increase of
lipid peroxidation products, both in blood and in liver homogenate against the background of activation units both
components of the antioxidant protection system was established. The most significant inhibition of the enzymatic
and non-enzymatic links antioxidant protection system suffered rats with acute hepatitis on the background of
hypothyroidism. It is concluded that failure revealed a mutual gain reflects the negative impact of acute toxic liver
injury and thyroid hormone deficiency.

Various pathologies, in particular hypertension, accompany violation of the processes of free radical oxidation. The state of the system lipid peroxidation – antioxidant protection can be assessed only by a complex of biochemical methods. The chemiluminescent method is used to obtain a faster result. The method has a number of advantages: measurement of chemiluminescence parameters is carried out in natural conditions and does not require sample preparation, is highly selective, it can be used to identify the presence of free radical pathology, analysis of the intensity of lipid peroxidation processes, the effectiveness of treatment with antioxidant medicament. The aim of the research was to study the lipid peroxidation under hypertension and stress by chemiluminescence. The experiment was conducted on male rats of the ISIAH line. The experiment consisted of 2 stages: stage of alarm and stage of chronic stress. We found that, depending on the type of stress, the state of the system lipid peroxidation-antioxidant protection differed. The role of stress in violation of the processes of lipoperoxidation in hypertension was established. The efficacy of the chemiluminescence method as an alternative to a complex of biochemical methods is shown. Express assessment of pro- and antioxidant status is possible for patients with hypertension.

Parasitic invasions in horses often cause metabolic disorders and have a negative impact on their health and performance. The purpose of this research was to study the processes of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant protection in horse helminthiases, as well as following the deworming with a drug containing the antioxidant santoquine. The intensity of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant protection was determined in horses with different degrees of invasion by concentrations of malondialdehyde and ceruloplasmin accumulated in the blood. The studies have revealed that the concentration of malondialdehyde, the end product of free radical oxidation of cell membrane phospholipids, depends on the intensity of infestation with intestinal nematodes. In horses infested with paraskaris and intestinal strongylata, a significant accumulation of malondialdehyde was by 18.2% higher as compared to uninfected animals. The level of ceruloplasmin was significantly lower – by 21.8% in animals with a moderate degree of invasion as compared to clinically healthy animals. To neutralize free radicals the antioxidant santoquine was used. Effective deworming by means of using santoquine reduced the intensity of lipid peroxidation processes, which resulted in a significant decrease in the concentration of malondialdehyde by 22.1% and an increase in the level of ceruloplasmin against the background of the lower rate of free radical oxidation by 25.8%.

Recently, interest in the problem of free radical oxidation in biological membranes, which is directly related to both the normal functioning of cells and the occurrence, course and outcome of many pathological conditions, has increased again in clinical medicine. The aim was to determine the role and impact of antioxidant defense in boys with hypoandrogenism. The study involved 75 adolescents with hypoandrogenism aged 13–18 years, who underwent a complex of clinical and laboratory examinations. All patients were conducted complex of anthropometric research and determination of the degree of delayed puberty, laboratory and instrumental examination. Free radical oxidation was determined by the levels of malondialdehyde, conjugated dienes, carbonated proteins, superoxide dismutase and catalase in the serum, and restored glutathione and glutathione peroxidase in whole blood. Based on their determination, the coefficient of oxidative stress was calculated. Statistical processing of results was performed using parametric and nonparametric methods. The study of indicators of the free radical oxidation process found that adolescents with hypoandrogenism have multidirectional changes in the oxidation of proteins and lipids, namely: the level of conjugated dienes increases, the concentration of malondialdehyde remains at the level of the control group, and the level of carbonated proteins tends to decrease. As for the activity of antioxidant protection enzymes, a significant decrease in the level of glutathione peroxidase was detected, while the level of superoxide dismutase and catalase remained at the level of normative indicators. Oxidative stress accompanies and is one of the pathogenetic links in the formation or maintenance of the state of hypoandrogenism in boys. This requires the use of antioxidants, the complex of which must be selected individually.

Introduction. To date, age and sex differences have been established for many biochemical parameters. Gender differences in indicators for systems such as antioxidant, thiol-disulfide, oxidative stress and inflammation systems are absent or under study. The aim of the study was to identify gender differences in biochemical parameters reflecting the functioning of antioxidant systems of the body and free radical oxidation in workers of metallurgical production, in contact with harmful production factors.Materials and methods. The blood of men and women working at the metallurgical enterprise of the Nizhny Novgorod region (n=80) under the influence of a complex of physical and chemical production factors was studied. Total oxidative stress, total antioxidant capacity of serum, glutathione levels were studied by photometric biochemical methods. Levels of C-reactive protein and 8-hydroxy–2-deoxyguanosine were studied by ELISA.Results. The average amount of peroxides in the serum of women exceeded 1.6 times this figure in men. In the group of men, the content of 8-Ondg was higher by 26% (p=0.012), the level of GS-by 12% (p=0.019), the activity of SOD — by 1.5–2 times (p=0.0001), the level of CRP — by 2 times (p=0.008) compared to similar indicators in women.Conclusions. Studies of gender differences in workers under the influence of harmful production factors will allow more effective approach to the etiology, treatment and prognosis of production-related diseases. Indicators of oxidative stress and antioxidant protection can be indicators of the health of workers under the influence of harmful industrial factors and be important in the prevention of diseases associated with oxidative stress.

Toxic effects of heavy metals on animals and humans is aggravating the presence of surfactants. The aim of our research was to identify the peculiarities of free radical oxidation and antioxidant protection in the use of drinking water with subtoxic doses of potassium and sodium stearates in combination with copper on the body of warmblooded animals, such as the liver of experimental rats. Analysis of indicators allows asserting that in experimental rats liver homogenate observed activation of free radical oxidation, the intensity of which depended on the concentration of stearates in water. More pronounced changes were in animals that consumed water with potassium stearate. The action of potassium stearate observed inhibition of antioxidant systems while under the influence of sodium stearate – its activation. Changes in performance were more pronounced in combination stearates with copper.

The effects of administration of cholinotropic agents (neostigmine, hexamethonium, pilocarpine, atropine, nicotine) on liver tissue after 5-day period of cooling of rats were compared. The analysis of the conditions inducing lipid peroxidation (LPO), the analysis of the substrate components of the LPO in liver, and the evaluation of the LPO products content in 5-day period of cold loads were made. The data obtained indicate on the contradirectory effects when pilocarpine and nicotine were administered to animals, as well as after administration of atropine and hexamethonium to animals. There was the similar effects after administration of both pilocarpine and hexamethonium and both nicotine and atropine in conditions of activated LPO assessed by substrate components of LPO in the liver after 5-day cooling. On the basis of these results, a hypothesis of reciprocity between muscarinic and nicotinic cholinoreceptors located on the plasma membrane of hepatocytes in the LPO processes of the liver during the period of cold loads has been formulated.

Background. Acetaminophen is a drug used to relieve pain syndrome. It is used both independently and in composition of combined drugs. Type 2 diabetes is an age-related disease that is associated with a violation of insulin synthesis by pancreas.Objective. The aim of the research was to study the effect of acetaminophen on major free radical oxidation indices of rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus in time dynamics.Methods. We conducted two series of experiments. The first series comprised rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus and acute acetaminophen toxic lesions. The second series involved rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus and acetaminophen administration at a dose of 55 mg/kg for the period of 7 days.Results. Administration of acetaminophen for rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus caused the increase in the content of malondialdehyde, diene and triene conjugates and Schiff bases in blood plasma and malondialdehyde, diene and triene conjugates in liver homogenate. The maximum increase in these indices was observed on the first day of the experiment. Gradually these indices decreased on the 3rd, 5th and 7th days of the experiment.Conclusions. Free radical oxidation increased in both series of the experiment. This process developed in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus and acute acetaminophen toxic lesions more intensively, than in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus and administration of acetaminophen at the highest therapeutic dose during 7 days.

Background.Chronic viral hepatitis is a complex global problem and is still far from being solved. Many researchers point out influence of viral hepatitis on the reproductive system of women.Aim.To identify features of the functional state of pituitary-thyroid units of neuroendocrinal regulation, and to evaluate lipid peroxidation – antioxidant protection with determination of the oxidative stress coefficient in perimenopausal women with chronic form of hepatitis.Materials and methods. Study included 44 women with chronic viral hepatitis and 28 healthy women of the same age. Immunoabsorbent, spectrophotometric, fluorometric and statistical methods were used.Results.In patients with chronic viral hepatitis, we detected an increase in thyroxine levels – by 29.6% (р < 0.001) and free triiodothyronine values – by 65.7% (р = 0.008) in comparison with the control group. In the group with chronic viral hepatitis, the TBA-reactive products level increased by 1.9 times (р = 0.006), and superoxide dismutase activity decreased by 1.3 times (р < 0.001), total antioxidant activity – by 1.7 times (р < 0.001) and α-tocopherol level – by 1.3 times (р = 0.005) in comparison with the control group.Conclusions. The obtained data demonstrate the features of the pituitary-thyroid system functioning and the lipid peroxidation – antioxidant protection system in patients with chronic hepatitis. The chronic form of hepatitis is characterized by metabolic disorders that require a more careful approach in diagnosis and management.

Aim. Determine the most informative indicators of free radical peroxidation in blood plasma for predicting the complications of dental implantation. Methods. The study included 84 patients of both with dental implants, including 31 patients without any complications and 53 patients with peri-implantitis. The levels of lipid peroxidation products and protein carbonylation were measured in peripheral blood. Results. Moderate intensification of lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation was discovered in blood serum of patients with dental implants. Increased free radical oxidation in the blood was not limited to lipid peroxidation and resulted in increased serum levels of carbonylated proteins. Facilitation of oxidative degradation of proteins in the blood was associated with decreased resistance to «carbonyl stress», manifested as increased level of Fe+2/H2O2-induced carbonylation. Development of peri-implantitis resulted in a greater enhancement of free radical oxidation of blood. Isopropanol-soluble and heptane-soluble Schiff bases level was increased in blood serum as well. Similar to patients with dental implants, increased levels of carbonylated proteins was observed in blood serum at peri-implantitis. However, free radical oxidation was more intense in patients with peri-implantitis compared to patients with dental implants. Indeed, the level of heptane-soluble Schiff bases at the group with peri-implantitis was 2 times higher as compared to dental implants group, and the level of isopropanol-soluble lipid peroxidation products in inflammatory complications after implantation has reached fourfold increase compared with patients who underwent operation without complications. Conclusion. Investigated indicators of free radical oxidation may be used as markers of peri-implantitis. Among them, the most informative indicators are Schiff bases and metal-catalyzed protein oxidation.
