Background. In the present situation, which certain studies describe as a crisis in the system of research staff training and which is characterized by low number of postgraduate students filling up the staff of scientific institutions, it is extremely important to study the specifics of motivation and value sphere of postgraduate students’ personality. Objective. Analysis of the socio-psychological characteristics that postgraduate students’ values have. Design. The study is based on a monitoring questionnaire survey of graduate students conducted in 2019 by employees of the RAO Information and the analytical center. The empirical data were processed using methods of mathematical statistics (statistical software packages SPSS and StatSoft Statistica). The study involved students of postgraduate research bodies that train postgraduate students in the field of education sciences, as well as postgraduates of pedagogical universities situated in Moscow, St. Petersburg and in other regions of the Russian Federation. A total of 803 respondents were interviewed. The study was aimed at assessing the hierarchy of life values in graduate students and the influence of socio-demographic factors, social stratification, and socio-psychological factors on the relevance of postgraduate students’ life values. Results. The results of the study indicate that the leading positions in the structure of postgraduate students’ life values are occupied by basic values (“family”, “good health” and “material well-being”) and by the most relevant values associated with self-actualization. It is shown that the value orientations of postgraduate students are determined by the influence of a number of socio-demographic factors (gender, age, presence and composition of the family), social stratification (financial status, educational status of parents) and socio-psychological factors (having or not clear-cut future plans, emotional assessment of one’s prospects, having or not emigration plans) factors. The comparison of the opinions of postgraduates and research staff showed that postgraduates are more focused on values related to self-actualization, as well as on traditionalist values. Conclusions. The core of postgraduate students’ life values structure if formed by the basic values and, in addition, the values related to self-actualization of individual. The value orientations of postgraduate students are determined by a number of socio-demographic factors, social stratification and socio-psychological factors. It was found out that at a certain age the structure of life values in postgraduate students changes significantly, in accordance with the aims of age development. It is shown that changes in graduate students’ family status make them reconsider the structure of life values. It is also noted that the restructuring of life values in graduate students, when if it proceeds in accordance with the values of natives in “Western” countries, contributes to the formation of emigration attitudes.

Objectives. To investigate the psychosocial aspects of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to determine the predictors of RA health outcome in a low socio-economic group of clinic-based adult RA patients.Design. This was a cross-sectional study. Clinic-based adult RA patients were subjected to a series of self- administered questionnaires to assess their experience of the disease. Coping, social support, causal attribution, cognitive illness representation, pain and functional status were assessed. Joint status, which indicated the degree of severity of joint inflammation for each RA patient, was assessed by a rheumatologist.Subjects. The sample consisted of 186 RA patients with a mean age of 49.51 years and a mean duration of RA of 10.80 years.Outcome measures. Health status measures defined by pain and functional status, and joint status.Results. Psychological factors, especially coping, were more significant predictors of self-report of pain and functional status than socio-demographic factors. Both socio-demographic factors and psychological factors (especially coping) were found to be significant predictors of swollen and tender joint status.Conclusion and recommendations. As a psychological factor, coping emerged as a consistent predictor of both self-report of pain and functional status, and swollen and tender joint status. It is recommended that to enhance the quality of life of RA patients and improve their health status, the impact of psychosocial factors such as the way in which patients cope with their disease status, must be considered. Further, it is recommended that health professionals collaborate not only in attempting to refine the theoretical conceptualisation of RA, but also in devising holistic and multidisciplinary care for individuals afflicted with the disease.

The article analyzes the socio-demographic determinants of Ukrainian citizens’ attitude to the judiciary identified on the basis of a nationwide survey. The sociological specifics of the analysis provided for the verification of the influence of those factors that reflect the consequences of social stratification in a particular society — its socio-economic, political and socio-cultural dimensions. In different countries of the world, the influence of socio-demographic factors on the attitude to the judiciary has been uneven and unequal. In many European countries, the experience of cooperating with the courts leads to a negative attitude towards justice. The attitude to the judiciary is considered through four indicators: 1) trust in the courts; 2) assessment of the chances of winning court case, regardless of the wealth of the citizen; 3) assessment of an independence of judges; 4) assessment of an integrity of judges. Despite social optimism observed in Ukrainian society after the 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections, the study found a low level of trust and negative assessments of Ukrainian justice. Using the method of multiple linear regression, it was found that public opinion about justice is formed regardless of gender, level of education and region of residence. It was found that Ukrainians’ attitude to the judiciary is largely determined by age, settlement type, language of communication at home and experience of participation in the trial. Confidence and positive assessments assessments of the judiciary are mainly manifested as the age and size of the settlement decrease, as well as among Russian speakers and those who have experience of participating in the trial. The influence of the respondents’ financial situation on their assessment of the independence of judges was unexpectedly dependent: as the financial situation of the family decreased, the tendency to consider judges independent increased.

The study involved students of post-graduate research organizations that train post-graduate students in the field of education Sciences, as well as pedagogical universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other regions of the Russian Federation. The paper examines the influence of socio-demographic, socio-stratification and socio-psychological factors on the emotional assessment of graduate students' prospects. Empirical data were processed using mathematical statistics methods. It is shown that the assessment of one's own life prospects associated with the influence of socio-demographic (gender, family status), socio-stratification (material status, educational status of the parents of a graduate student) and socio-psychological factors (the presence of formed plans, the presence of emigration plans).

The relationship between the assessment of life fears by postgraduate students and the assessment of their life prospects, material and family status, the level of education of parents, and the presence of emigration plans is shown. The correlation analysis revealed a stable, age-independent structure of fears and threats for graduate students. Conclusions. Graduate students’ assessment of the importance of life fears is determined by the influence of a number of socio-demographic, socio-stratification and socio-psychological factors. The conducted special correlation analysis showed that the basis of the structure of graduate students ‘fears is a complex complex that includes six interrelated “centers”: “risk of losing health”, “economic failure”, “lack of professional prospects”, “lack of social protection”, “unemployment”, “tightening of the regime in the country”.

Background: Diarrhea founds to be the major cause of morbidity and mortality in children less than five years. Various factors are associated with diarrhea but socio-demographic factors are the main key elements, which associated with diarrhea. Methods: This study was examined association of socio-demographic factors with diarrhea in children less than five years of age of Sindh, Pakistan, using data from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) conducted from January 2014 to August 2014. Data were collected for 18,108 children in whom 16,449 children had complete data of demographic variables being included in the analysis. Bivariate analysis was done using Pearson's Chi square test and multivariate analysis being done using binary logistic regression. Results: We found increased risk of diarrhea among children lives in rural areas while household wealth index quintile was also associated with diarrhea. Children in the poor, middle and fourth wealth index quintiles being at increased risk of diarrhea compared to children in the richest wealth index quintile. The highest risk of diarrhea was found for the child having mother with no education as well as children aged 12-23 months. Conclusion: Age of child, mother education and wealth index found significant with diarrhea while Male children, child aged 12-23 months, child with no mother education, child from rural areas and child from poor households found with high risk of diarrhea.
