A note about some taxa in Anthyllis and Trifolium (Fabaceae) described from Sicily is presented. Concerning Trifolium, we provide the lectotypification of the name T. pratense var. semipurpureum (≡ T. pratense subsp. semipurpureum), using a specimen preserved at PAL (Todaro’s collection). Concerning the Lojacono-Pojero’s name Vulneraria heterophylla var. parvula, it is lectotypified by a specimen at G. A neotype at NAP is proposed for the Gussone’s name Vulneraria heterophylla var. albiflora. As this latter name is applied to a taxon accepted here at specific rank, a new combination is validated. On the contrary, A. heterophylla var. parvula is considered as a new heterotypic synonym of Anthyllis vulneraria var. rubriflora. Finally, this latter is typified by a specimen deposited at TO.

This electron microscopy study of the materials from ultraoligotrophic lake Elgygytgyn (Chukotka) revealed variability of morphological features in Hannaea arcus var. arcus and H. arcus var. recta. An emended diagnosis for H. arcus var. arcus is presented, and a new combination in specific rank is published: H. inaequidentata (Lagerstedt) Genkal et Kharitonov (= H. arcus var. recta).

Trematocarpus Kützing in southern Africa is found to comprise four taxa in three species: newly described is T.  fragilis (Ag.) De Toni var. divaricatus Simons, var. nov. Two of the species, T. flabellatus (J. Ag.) De Toni and T.  affinis (J. Ag.) De Toni are restored to independent specific rank after being regarded as synonyms of T.  scutellatus (Her.) Searles. It is shown that  Sphaerococcus (Chondrus) scutellatus Her., the basionym of  T.  scutellatus refers to a species of Gigartina, therefore a new combination Gigartina scutellata (Her.) Simons is made for this species which was formerly known as G. fastigiata J. Ag. and G. scabiosa (Kiitz.) Papenf. Trematocarpus elongatus Kiitz. is relegated to synonymy under T. fragilis var.  divaricatus.

Following the most recent phylogenetic analyses of Menonvillea, an updated taxonomic revision of the genus based on molecular and morphological data is presented here. Menonvillea currently includes 24 species distributed in Argentina and Chile. Three new sections, sects. Cuneata, Menonvillea, and Scapigera, are proposed. One subspecies is raised to the specific rank, and the new combination M. marticorenae is proposed. Descriptions, keys to all taxa, updated geographical distributions, maps, and illustrations are provided. Lectotypes for M. filifolia, M. minima, M. purpurea, and M. flexuosa f. tomentosa are designated.

Rungia latior Nees var. anamalayana Chandrab. & V. Chandras., examined as part of the revisionary studies on the Acanthaceae of Western Ghats, have shown some taxonomic ambiguity. As the original authors rightly pointed out, the variety ‘does not fit within the circumscription of the typical species’. Based on our recent collections, we also felt that the varietal status is superfluous as the same has got some merits to be recognized as a distinct species. As such the status of the variety has been reassessed; elevated to the specific rank and a new combination has been set, conserving the varietal name as the specific epithet. Accordingly, the species is renamed as Rungia anamalayana (Chandrab. & V. Chandras.) A. Nazarudeen & G. Rajkumar comb. et stat. nov. The distinctive features and alliance of the species is discussed and a full account of the species is presented with illustrations.

Two additional species are recognised in Jacquemontia. The new combination Jacquemontia frankeana is proposed, based on Convolvulus frankeanus, since this species is clearly referable to Jacquemontia rather than Convolvulus based on its stigma morphology and possession of stellate hairs. It is distinguished from closely related species of Jacquemontia by the glabrescent leaves, the stellate adpressed hairs with 4–5-rays, and the two outer sepals being smaller than the inner. Jacquemontia glabrescens is also recognized at specific rank, based on Jacquemontia grandiflora var. glabrescens. It is distinguished from the morphologically similar J. ferruginea and J. cataractae by a combination of glabrescent leaves, bigger flowers, rhombic to ovate outer sepals and glabrous to glabrescent. Synonymy of these taxa and typification are also addressed.

Morphological and distributional observations are reported for 14 northeast Pacific sabellids, largely using collections from British Columbia and Washington waters, and for one species from New Zealand. For nine of these, additions to the descriptions are provided based on type material. Eudistylia Bush is revised using a new combination of diagnostic characters. Eudistylia catharinae is newly described; E. tenella Bush is regarded as a synonym of E. vancouveri (Kinberg). Diagnostic characters at the generic level, particularly those of Sabella Linnæus, are discussed. Demonax Kinberg, considered to be a subgenus of Sabella, is emended. Distylia volutacornis pacifica Berkeley and Berkeley is elevated to specific rank and referred to Demonax. Jasmineira pacifica Annenkova, Oriopsis gracilis Hartman, and an unnamed species of Sabellastarte Savigny are new additions to the polychaete fauna of British Columbia and Washington. The size, shape and surface morphology of human erythrocytes (RBC) were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), of the fixed material directly and by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of surface replicas to compare the relative merits of these two observational procedures for this type specimen.A sample of human blood was fixed in glutaraldehyde and washed in distilled water by centrifugation. The washed RBC's were spread on freshly cleaved mica and on aluminum coated microscope slides and then air dried at room temperature. The SEM specimens were rotary coated with 150Å of 60:40- gold:palladium alloy in a vacuum evaporator using a new combination spinning and tilting device. The TEM specimens were preshadowed with platinum and then rotary coated with carbon in the same device. After stripping the RBC-Pt-C composite film, the RBC's were dissolved in 2.5N HNO3 followed by 0.2N NaOH leaving the preshadowed surface replicas showing positive topography.

Russian economy has reached the low level of inflation, but economic growth has not accelerated. Moreover, according to official forecasts, in the following years it will still be low. The article concludes that domestic demand, which is one of the main factors of growth, is significantly constrained by monetary, budgetary and fiscal spheres. The situation in the Russian economy is still hampered by the decline of the world economic growth. The prospects of financial markets are highly uncertain. This increases the possibility of crisis in the world. Leading countries widely use non-traditional measures to support their economies in the similar environment. In the world economy as well as in Russia a principally new combination of factors has emerged, which create specific features of economic growth. It requires special set of measures to stimulate such growth. The article proves that Russian regulators have large unused potential to stimulate growth. It includes monetization, long-money creation, budget and tax stimuli. It is important that the instruments, which will be used, should be based on domestic mechanisms. This will strengthen financial basis of the economy and may encourage economic growth. Some specific suggestions as to their use are made.
