The flexibility of the snake robot body and its ability to adapt to different types of terrain attracted the attention of researchers to the great possibilities of its application in inspection, rescue, and searching tasks. These tasks require the robot to have the ability to navigate smartly in a complex environment (CE), which is considered to be one of the most critical challenges in the robotics field. The robot should be able to sense the surrounding environment and overcome different types of obstacles. In this paper, we have presented a review of the different type of snake robot locomotion and the controlling strategies in an environment with obstacles. We focus on avoidance obstacle locomotion as it is considered to be the most common strategy for dealing with obstacles. In addition, various types of modeling and controlling of locomotion with the presence of obstacles are discussed. Finally, a recommendation on the introduction of an obstacle detection system (ODS) and sensor fusion technology is given.

A new roadway eventual obstacle detection system based on computer vision is described and evaluated. This system uses low-cost hardware and open-source software to detect and classify moving elements in roads using infra-red and colour video images as input data. This solution represents an important advancement to prevent road accidents due to eventual obstacles which have considerably increased in the past decades, mainly with wildlife. The experimental evaluation of the system demonstrated that the proposed solution detects and classifies correctly different types of moving obstacles on roads, working robustly under different weather and illumination conditions.

The present study was designed to examine the monitoring performance of operators in a complex environment requiring concurrent monitoring of multiple displays with different types of critical signals. Participants performed a manual flight task concurrently with three monitoring tasks over three separate 2-hour sessions. The monitoring tasks required operators to detect deviations in the gauge, mode, and digital readout portions of a simulated EICAS display. Results indicated that while performance on the primary flight task degraded within each session, monitoring performance remained constant. Further, intrasession monitoring performance did not degrade across trials. These findings suggest that vigilance performance for complex displays may be influenced by a number of factors including compensatory strategies related to mental effort regulation, the complexity of monitoring task demands, the duration of the monitoring session, and the nature of additional operator responsibilities.

Physiology educators read journals, such as this one, to gather ideas about curriculum and instruction. Most articles focus on curriculum (i.e., what is taught), but this paper will focus on instruction (i.e., how curriculum is implemented). Just as there are different types of curricula, there are different types of instruction. The most common strategy is lecture. Lectures are extremely efficient for delivering large amounts of information in a short period of time. A common laboratory strategy is discovery or inquiry-based learning (i.e., giving students tools, cognitive and physical, to deduce new information via investigations). A third instructional strategy is the use of cooperative learning. Proper conditions are required for each instructional strategy, and problems arise when the wrong combinations are put together. This paper will describe how a cooperative learning environment can be created in the anatomy and physiology laboratory through the use of cooperative quizzes. It will include a brief introduction to the pedagogical theory behind cooperative learning and an evaluation of the effectiveness of quizzes compared with more traditional methods.

Water sources are an indispensable resource for human survival. Monitoring the pollution status of the surrounding environment is necessary to protect water sources. Research on the environmental matrix of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) has expanded rapidly because of their high extraction efficiency for various target analytes, controllable synthesis, and versatile structure. Following the synthesis of hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (HDESs), their application in aqueous matrices broadened greatly. The present review conducted a survey on the pollutant extraction methods based DESs in environmental matrices from two aspects, application methods and matrix types; discussed the potential risk of DESs to the environment and future development trends; and provided some references for researchers to choose DES-based extraction methods for environmental research.

Purpose This paper aims to provide information of parameters and techniques used in the automated fraud detection system during online transaction. With the increase in the use of online transactions, the concerns regarding data security have also increased. To tackle the frauds, lot of research has been done and plethora of papers are available on the related topics. The purpose of this paper is to provide the clear pathway for researchers to move in the direction of development of automated fraud detection system to prevent the fraud during online transaction. Design/methodology/approach This literature review analyses and compares the different types of techniques for detecting fraud during online transaction. An in-depth study of the most prominent journals has been done and the core methodology of the papers has been presented. This article also shed some light on different types of parameters used in fraud detection techniques during online transaction. Findings There are vast varieties of various fraud detection techniques, and every technique has completed task in its own way. After studying approximately 41 research papers, 14 books and four reports, in total 30 parameters have been identified and a detailed study of the parameters has been presented. The parameters are also listed with their details that how these parameters are used in the security system for detecting online transaction fraud. Research limitations/implications This paper provides empirical insight about the parameters and their prominence in the development of automated fraud detection security system of online transaction. This paper encourages the researchers to development of improved fraud detection system. Practical implications This paper will pave the way for researchers to do a focused research on the fraud detection methodologies. The analysis will help in zeroing down the most prevalent topic of research in this field. The researchers will be able to understand the internal details of parameters and techniques used in the fraud detection systems. This literature also helps the research to think in a variety of ways that how these parameters will be used in the development of fraud detection system. Originality/value This paper is one of the most comprehensive reviews in its field. It tries and attempts to fill a void created because of lack of compilation of the laid fraud detection parameters.
