This paper reports the photoluminescence and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of Ce2O3–TiO2 nanocomposites synthesized via sol–gel process with different concentrations of cerium. The physical characterization studies by means of XRD indicated for the successful incorporation of Ce into the lattice of TiO2, while the UV-visible spectra for an absorption edge shift of TiO2 to the higher wavelength side following the Ce addition, and FESEM analysis for the morphology and particles sizes of the synthesized materials. On testing of the photoluminescence properties recorded through time-resolved fluorescence (TCSPC) technique, a decrease in the intensity of TiO2 with that of increased Ce concentration was observed and is due to an escalation in the number of oxygen vacancies. Further, the observation NLO properties for Ce2O3–TiO2 was done by a Z-scan technique of 5ns continuous wave (cw) laser at 532 nm, where the involvement of active mechanisms in the nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption are due to the saturable absorption (SA) and nonlinear thermal effects.

The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of P3HT in orthodichlorobenzene were investigated at 532[Formula: see text]nm by Z-scan technique in the nanosecond domain. The nonlinear refraction of P3HT solution is up to an order of 10[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]esu and changes the sign from positive to negative with an increase in the input intensity. The reverse saturable absorption of the P3HT solution was observed in the intensity range of the measurements and their nonlinear absorption coefficient reaches an order of 102[Formula: see text]cm/GW. The strong optical nonlinearity perhaps allows them to be widely applied in the photoelectric field.

Zinc phthalocyanine possessing triphenylamine at its peripheral position has been synthesized and its optical, emission, electrochemical and third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated. Soret band was broadened due to the presence of triphenylamine moiety. Electrochemical properties indicated that both oxidation and reduction processes were ring centered. Emission spectra were recorded in different solvents and the fluorescence yields obtained were in the range of 0.02–0.17 while the time-resolved fluorescence data revealed radiative lifetimes of typically few ns. Third-order NLO properties of this molecule have been examined using the Z-scan technique with picosecond (ps) and femtoseocnd (fs) pulses. Closed and open aperture Z-scan data were recorded with 2 ps/1 50 fs laser pulses at a wavelength of 800 nm and NLO coefficients were extracted from both the data. Our data clearly suggests the potential of this molecule for photonics applications.

Perovskite-type oxides catalyst are of interest for various application such as auto-thermal reforming (ART), catalytic wet air oxidation (CWOA) and piezoelectric (PZT). In this paper, La1-xCexNiO3 (x= 0-0.4) perovskite-type oxides have been prepared b sol-gel process using PVA. The precursor was mixed metal ion and PVA with a mole ratio of 1:1 and 1:2. The decomposition during the calcinations process was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. Phase of synthesized materials were characterized with X-ray diffraction. Morphological analysis and elemental composition of catalysts was determined by Scanning electron microscope and energy dispersion spectroscopy. The characterization results show that highly crystalline and homogeneous phase of these perovskite oxides were successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method via PVA as a complexing agent.

AbstractGermanium selenide nanoplates (GeSe NPs) are considered to have broadband nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and great potential for applications in nanophotonic devices. In this work, we systematically studied the NLO response of GeSe NPs by the open-aperture Z-scan technique. GeSe NPs exhibit strong saturable absorption at wavelengths of 400, 800, and 1064 nm with different pulse durations. Furthermore, we investigated the excited carrier dynamics of GeSe NPs by the non-degenerate pump-probe technique. The fast and slow relaxation times at different wavelengths of 800, 871, 1064, and 1100 nm were components with lifetimes of about 0.54–1.08 and 52.4–167.2 ps, respectively. The significant ultrafast NLO properties of GeSe NPs imply their potential in the development of nanophotonic devices. Here, we designed and fabricated the all-optical diode by means of the GeSe/C60 tandem structure and demonstrated that the saturable absorption behavior of GeSe NPs can be used to fabricate a photonic diode, which exhibits nonreciprocal transmission of light similar to that of an electron diode.

TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2) and Ag-doped TiO2 nanocomposites (Ag-TiO2) were synthesized by the Sol-Gel process using titanium tetra isopropoxide as TiO2 and AgNO3 as Ag precursors, respectively. The synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, and UV-Visible analysis. The XRD results show that Ag doping increases the grain size from 22 nm to 36 nm. From the UV-Visible spectra, the redshift in absorbance was observed, which indicates the increase in grain size and it reduces the bandgap. The TEM analysis shows that all the particles are exhibited in the nanometer range. The synthesized nanoparticles show good photocatalytic activity, and they decompose the methyl orange dye within 5 hours.

In the sight of the present demand of scientific exploration in nonlinear optics (NLO), we synthesized a symmetric donor–[Formula: see text]–acceptor–[Formula: see text]–donor (D–[Formula: see text]–A–[Formula: see text]–D) type organic chromophore [2-[2,6-di((E)-styryl)]-4H-pyran-4-ylidene]malononitrile (M1) for linear and nonlinear optical studies. The structural character of the compound M1 was confirmed using 1H NMR, [Formula: see text]C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. The intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) in molecule M1 has been analyzed using absorption and fluorescence spectrometry in different nonpolar and polar solvents. The optical bandgap, optical conductivity, and linear refractive index of M1 were also calculated using UV–Vis absorption spectrum in CHCl3. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was also carried out to check the thermal stability of the compound M1 and it was found to be thermally stable up to 200∘C. Furthermore, the third-order optical nonlinearity in M1 has been investigated elaborately using the [Formula: see text]-scan technique with a continuous wave (CW) diode laser at 520[Formula: see text]nm. The nonlinear absorption ([Formula: see text]), nonlinear refraction ([Formula: see text]), and nonlinear optical susceptibility ([Formula: see text]) were computed for various solution concentrations as well as several laser powers and the magnitude of all the parameters were found to vary linearly with concentration and power. The magnitude of two-photon absorption cross-section ([Formula: see text]) was also calculated and found to be of the order of 10[Formula: see text] GM. The optical limiting performance of the compound was also studied in different solution concentrations using the same laser. Furthermore, DFT and TD-DFT theoretical calculations were performed for the support of experimental results.

This work reports on synthesis and characterizations of Ga(III) and In(III) complexes, formed by 2,3-bis[2[Formula: see text]-(2[Formula: see text]-hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy]-9,10,16,17,23,24-hexa-[Formula: see text]-butoxy phthalocyanine (1H2) coordinating acetatoindium(III) (1InOAc) and hydroxogallium(III) (1GaOH) Photophysical properties of hydroxogallium(III) phthalocyaninate 1GaOH and acetatoindium(III) phthalocyaninate 1InOAc were studied by UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy and time-resolved methods. The nonlinear absorption of the complexes was studied using the Z-scan technique at 532 nm and 10 ns pulse in DMSO and in thin films formed by composite with poly(bisphenol A carbonate) — PBC. The magnitude of absorption coefficients and other nonlinear optical parameters estimated in this work showed that complex 1InOAc exhibited the strongest nonlinear optical behavior in comparison with 1GaOH in solution and a reverse tendency when embedded in PBC thin films. DFT calculations were used to rationalize these results.
