The study of the adsorption of the CrVI ion on to TiO2 not only provides information on the removal of heavy metal ions from polluted aqueous solutions; but is also useful for further investigation of the photocatalytic decontamination of the CrVI ion or of CrVI–organic species which co-exist as pollutants with TiO2 when the latter is used as a stable and highly efficient photocatalyst. It has been found that dark adsorption of the CrVI ion on to TiO2 is mainly dependent on the acidity of the system and the initial concentration of the CrVI ion. As the pH of the system increases, so the extent of adsorption of the CrVI ion decreases. The greatest adsorption was obtained with an initial CrVI ion concentration of ca. 300 μmol/l. The presence of phosphate or acetate ions in the system dramatically decreases the adsorption efficiency of the CrVI ion. In contrast, the addition of formic acid leads to a limited increase in the extent of CrVI ion adsorption. Other organic ions and organic compounds examined showed no interference in CrVI ion adsorption. FT-IR spectroscopic methods were used for the characterization of CrVI ion adsorption on to TiO2.

Acetophenone sulfamethoxazole and 3-Nitrobenzophenone sulfamethoxazole were prepared from the reaction of sulfamethoxazole with two ketones. The prepared ligands were identified by (C.H.N) analysis and UV-VIS, FT-IR spectroscopic techniques. Metal complexes of the two ligands were prepared in an aqueous alcohol with Zn (II), Mn (II) and Cu (II) ions with a molar ratio1:1. The proposed general formula for the resulting complexes was [ML.CL2.H2O]H2O .The complexes were characterized by (C.H.N) technique , spectroscopic methods ,conductivity, atomic absorption ,magnetic susceptibility measurements and melting point. According to the results obtained, the suggested geometry is to be octahedral for all the complexes.

Growth of optically transparent single crystals of thiourea succinic acid (TUSA) was grown successfully from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique. The crystal structure was elucidated using the single crystal XRD. The various functional groups and the modes of vibrations were identified by FT-IR spectroscopic analysis. The optical absorption studies indicate that the optical transparency window is quite wide making its suitable for NLO applications. Thermal stability of the crown crystal carried out by TGA-DTA analysis.

Abstract Background Environment-friendly fast and accurate mid-infrared spectroscopic methods have been developed for the quantitative analysis of doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) and arterolane maleate (ALM) in bulk and marketed formulations. Both transmittance and reflectance modes have been used for the analysis and a comparison has been drawn for better accuracy. The analytical methods were validated in accordance with International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines Results The proposed methods have been successfully developed and validated for the quantification of doxorubicin and arterolane maleate in solid bulk and dosage form. High recovery values in both the modes, while analysing DOX and ALM, indicated good accuracy of the methods. The methods showed excellent repeatability and intermediate precision [% RSD (Relative Standard Deviation < 2.0%]. The assay values of the drugs in solid dosage forms were also found close to the labelled claim. Conclusion The proposed Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic methods were found to be specific, reproducible, valid and could be used as general methods for the quantification of most of the solid drug preparations such as tablets, capsules and powders.

Cuprous oxide and related materials in nanosizes are of much interest and investigated extensively recently. It is reported here that cubic Cu2O nanocubes were synthesized successfully in aqueous solutions at room temperature in air condition. Copper (II) salts in water were reduced with ascorbate acid in air, using the nonionic pluronic amphiphilic triblock copolymer EO20PO70EO20 (P123) as the template-directing and protecting agent. The average edge length of the cubes varied from 50 to 100 nm. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has been used for the shape and structural characterization of the obtained Cu2O nanocubes. The UV-Vis spectra showed an obvious blue-shift (0.53 eV), compared to the band gap of the bulk Cu2O crystal, which makes it a promising candidate in solar energy conversion since this sample can make use of higher energy visible rays of solar spectrum. In the FT-IR spectra the peak of Cu-O bond for the Cu2O is clearly distinguished and several weak peaks of the C-H, C-C and C=O bonds for the organic species can also be detectable, implying a little P123 residua in the products. The effect of the triblock copolymer P123 on the growth of the Cu2O nanocubes is discussed.

Carthamus tinctorius Linn, also known as safflower, is a plant with the potential of being used in the production of antimalarial drugs. The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify the steroid compounds in the safflower and determine its antimalarial activity in vitro. The isolation process was conducted through extraction and chromatography methods. Then, the characterization of the isolated compounds was conducted through spectroscopic techniques which include Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), NMR 1-D (1H and 13C-NMR), and NMR 2-D (HMQC, HMBC, and H-H COZY) as well as comparing data with the existing literatures. In addition, the tests conducted were with variations of isolate concentrations (10, 1, 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 μg/mL) against 3D7 strain of Plasmodium falciparum. Based on the FT-IR spectroscopic data, the steroid compounds isolated from safflowers might be stigmasterols. In addition, the isolates had -OH functional group in the region of 3431 cm-1, C-O in the region of 1053 cm-1, and Csp3-H in regions of 2960, 2934, and 2865 cm-1. The NMR 1-D data showed presence of 29 carbon atoms, while the protons were 48 in number. Furthermore, the IC50 value of the compound was 34.03 μg/mL with a percentage inhibition of 43.92% against the growth of P. falciparum. Therefore, it was classified as inactive agent in inhibiting the growth of malaria parasites, however, it could be used as a marker compound in C. tinctorius Linn extract.

The material employed in this study is an ecoefficient, environmentally friendly, chromium (VI)-free (noncarcinogenic) metal polymer. The originality of the research lies in the study of the effect of new production procedures of salmon on metal packaging with multilayer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer coatings. Our hypothesis states that the adhesion of postmortem salmon muscles to the PET polymer coating produces surface and structural changes that affect the functionality and limit the useful life of metal containers, compromising therefore their recycling capacity as ecomaterials. This work is focused on studying the effects of the biochemical changes of postmortem salmon on the PET coating and how muscle degradation favors adhesion to the container. The experimental design considered a series of laboratory tests of containers simulating the conditions of canned salmon, chemical and physical tests of food-contact canning to evaluate the adhesion, and characterization of changes in the multilayer PET polymer by electron microscopy, ATR, FT-IR, and Raman spectroscopy analyses. The analyses determined the effect of heat treatment of containers on the loss of freshness of canned fish and the increased adhesion to the container wall, and the limited capability of the urea treatment to remove salmon muscle from the container for recycling purposes.
