In this article, I investigate the performativity of everyday practices – doings and sayings – that work to constitute identities and spaces through different affective intensities. In doing so, I attempt to bridge a gap between Judith Butler’s account on performativity and affect theory by developing the notion of “sticky” space that I define as a performative embodied space saturated with affect. The site of the study is a post-conflict city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a place that appears mired in stark divisions and continued “ethnicization” of city space. Drawing on participant observation, interviews and a photography project with Mostar’s high school students, this article argues that variations in affective and emotional intensities become crucial in enabling and arresting young Mostarians’ social and spatial relations.

In this work, throughout the research which was organized in one high school in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it will be shown the influence of exercises on the final result in the e-learning environment at the final test done by students. The research was conducted from the subject informatics in the I, II and III grade. The type of the questions were of multiple choices, addition and accession. The aim was to see how much influence these online exercises have on the final outcome which is demonstrated through the final informatics test done by students and which is done in a classical way in classroom after the finished teaching materials that were planned according to high school rules. In the research, it was taken account of making all preconditions available for easy experiment conducting with regard to technical securing preconditions for students access to blended system of teaching. Concerning the recent experience, it is noticeable that youth like the use of IT and communication devices. In order to secure all necessary conditions, it was conducted the survey among students about having technical preconditions of online access to testing and about students knowledge of work principle in the Claroline LMS platform. The aim was to increase motivation of high school students with regard to the use of online materials, because in high schools of Bosnia and Herzegovina almost nothing is undertaken when it comes to the implementation of new IKT possibilities.

ABSTRACT This research seeks to identify how multiple representations can influence the strengthening of argumentative competence in high school students. The methodological foundation on which it is based is supported by the qualitative-comprehensive approach and the research strategy under the case study method; perspectives that adequately guide the research exercise in the field of education, because they allow offering favorable resources and tools for such activity. Considering the above, a process of pedagogical intervention was carried out, with an investigative approach, related to the general law of ideal gases, through the execution of the elements presented in the didactic cycle. Among the techniques used for the intervention process were: participant observation, discussion group and survey. Specifically, the semi-structured interview and the guide of questions were used as instruments for the construction of the data. The research was carried out with the equal participation of twelve high school students from both educational institutions in the city of Medellin. As for the conclusions, it is found that the systematic use of multiple representations enables a better understanding of the general law of ideal gases, allows reaching a better argumentative level and developing a language closer to science.

Background: A job is undertaken for a particular period of an individual’s life and with chances for progress. The constructive way to know about the individual’s inner strength. Career ability for high school students is essential to identify their capabilities in different career choices and choose the appropriate one, which helps in reaching great heights. Career ability placement survey helps in identifying the propensity of the students using seven different potentialities which would help in performing better based on their abilities, which would minimise the failures.Aim: The present study aimed is to find out career abilities among the high school students and plan for their future. Methods: Career ability placement survey was developed by Lila Knapp, Robert R Knapp, and Lisa Knapp –Lee. This questionnaire is used to assess the career abilities of individuals using seven different dimensions. The scale was administered to 55 high school students based on stratified random sampling. Results: No significant difference between the career abilities among males and females. Conclusion: Both males and females have the expertise in spatial relations were they can visualise in three dimensions and can perform well in jobs related in spatial intelligence, and both have the least capacity in language usage where they cannot deliver well in careers related to oral and written communication.

Less Zainichi youth are opting for Chosŏn (i.e. pro-DPRK) schools, partially because of integration into Japanese society and the wider career options that Japanese public education offers. Nevertheless, Chosŏn schools continue to provide universal education in Korean to nurture “proud and proper Koreans.” To this end, Korean schools aim to connect the students to their “homeland”: The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Participant observation of school trips to the DPRK reveals what the “homeland” means to the students and how it relates to the schools’ educational goal. Vis-à-vis the rampant xenophobia in Japan, the schools’ practices carry an urgency that cannot be ignored.

AbstractBackground:Tobacco smoking amongst the young is a matter of public health concern because of the immediate and long-term health consequences associated with tobacco use, such as asthma, cancers, and cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to identify the determinants of smoking initiation among a sample of high school students in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Methods:The study was conducted among 198 high school students in Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, during April 2013. A self-administered, pre-tested, structured, close-ended questionnaire was used for data collection. Results:Fourth grade students mainly initiated smoking in high school (45%), while the majority of third and second grade students initiated smoking in primary school. Among students who smoke, an average duration of the smoking habit was <2 years. A multivariate analysis showed that males were 5.27 times more likely to have initiated smoking. For every unit increase in pro-smoking attitude towards smoking, students were 5.3 times more likely to have initiated smoking. Those with parents and friends who are smokers were 6.106 and 5.175 times, respectively, more likely to have initiated smoking. Conclusion:This study indicates that a high proportion of 15–18 year olds in the town of Zvornik are current smokers. Gender, age, and parent and peer influence were identified as important associations with smoking. Interventions should not only be confined to the secondary school environment but they should also extend to their places of residence so that influences in the home environment and social surroundings that contribute to tobacco use are also tackled.

Studies have shown that high school students feel “othered” within schools. This is particularly true of working-class communities. The former dominates the literature in relation to social class within educational studies. What needs to be addressed is how surveillance is enacted within pedagogy in everyday practices within schools. This paper draws on an empirical study of 17 high school students and 5 teachers who were interviewed through semi-structured interviews and platicas. Three key themes arise from their conversations covered in this paper:security, social distance, and the understanding of discipline. I argue that the most holistic way to understand such phenomena is to apply an interdisciplinary approach, through education, ethnic studies, and spirituality, but it is not limited to these. The paper concludes that we must interrogate the genealogy of education and what is seldom scrutinized as a norm, the structure of schooling.

The lack of readily available sources of potable water is major problem in many parts of the world. This project engaged high school (HS) students in authentic and meaningful science and engineering activities to teach them about the lack and poor quality of potable water in many regions and how they can be addressed through the use of point of use (POU) treatments, such as biosand filters (BSFs). The HS students’ activities paralleled those of USF students, including research question development and BSF design, construction, operation, and monitoring. An ethnographic approach was utilized by incorporating participant observation, collection and review of artifacts, and interviews. It was found that the project’s focus on the need to provide potable water in the developing world provided authenticity and meaningfulness to the HS students, which encouraged their participation in activities and the learning of science and engineering practices. The HS students reported an awareness of the differences between this project and their regular science classes. The project had a positive impact on their perceptions of themselves as scientists and their interest in STEM careers. The HS students’ results were useful to the university-based research. In addition, the USF students gained teaching experience while investigating research questions in a low-stakes environment.

Latina/o high school students face many challenges in school, and much current research on ethnicity and education likewise focuses on the downsides of being an ethnic minority in the U.S. educational system. Social scientists attribute the educational gaps associated with ethnic minority status to factors such as fewer family resources, discrimination, teacher-student mismatch, English learner status, and social isolation at school. This article shifts attention to the ways in which ethnic minority status can bolster educational attainment and highlights the significance of co-ethnic physical spaces or “enclaves” in majority white high schools. Data include 11 interviews with teachers and administrators at a public high school in the Southeast, supplemented with 100 hours of classroom participant observation and over 100 narratives written by students. Student perceptions are tapped through analysis of an open-ended essay writing exercise on what it means to be a Latina/o in the United States, completed by the Latina/o students enrolled in four Spanish language–only courses during three terms in 2013–2014. The observation, interview, and essay-based data indicate that Latino/a high school students benefit from school ethnic enclaves where they are free to draw on the support of co-ethnic peers and culturally flexible teachers. These themes emerge in the interviews with teachers and are supported by student comments in a writing exercise. School ethnic enclaves provide both academic and social support, help foster a positive ethnic self-image, and ultimately link ethnic minority status and heritage to success despite the significant—and more often studied—educational challenges faced by Latina/o high school students.

Genetics, as a science of the future, is very important part of Biology teaching. Within educational system in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is studied in limited number of clasess with a minimum of practical excercises, in both elementary and secondary schools. Limited understanding of scientific facts result in prejudices or uninformed attitudes towards novel biotechnologies that are largely based on non-reviewed and non-scientific information often incorrectly or inadequately presented in mass-media. Purpose of this research was to estimate the level of knowledge about selected topics in genetics among high school students in three Mostar high school institutions and differences in the level of knowledge between students from different high school programs – grammar school and vocational medical school. The research was conducted in 2017 among students of fourth grade of three high school institutions: ''Grammar School Mostar'', ''Medical high school Mostar'' and Medical high school ''Sestre milosrdnice''. Notable differences in knowledge level between two vocational programs are observed as well as variance in learning outcomes of the same program presented in two formal languages in Bosnia and Herzegovina
